Has anyone here actually ever been a bridesmaid.---Or know of some boy or guy who has? I haven't but its always been a fun fantasy of mine ever since I heard of a sister having her brothers as bridesmaids for her wedding many years ago. I have since read of other incidents.---most times, nowadays, as it becmes even more frequent, the guy will simply wear a tux simply of a different color than that of the grooms party, but still, they often wear the same dresses and makeup as the other bridesmaids--especially the younger ones who can be made get away with it.

I recently read a posting on another site of a guy who did that at age 13 and age 17 for each of his 2 sister's weddings. They wanted him to do it, so he obliged to make them happy(--The second time was easier though, he knew what to expect.) He said that he had to practice , in costume , shoes, etc. about a week before to learn how to walk , sit etc. The first time they put him in silk petticoats and underwear, he said he slipped right off the chair, on his butt to the floor. He had to go through the same fitting and beauty shop routine as the other bridesmaids. Both times, he had to do both the wedding and the reception,---Unfortunately, he dosent give too much detail--it was a posted letter after all. in response to the subject in a legitimate wedding forum.

It has been a long standing joke with my daughter that if she gets married I'll be her bridesmaid. She laughs saying I'll be out of place but not because of the dress. She's Goth, she has tons of peircings, her lipsick, nailpolish and just about all her clothes are black and her friends are much the same. Me in lavender or pink? Out of place for sure!

Nope... but wish I was one. I wouldn't hold anything back.

The TV show "He's a Lady" is the closest I've seen.

I almost was. A friend of mine was going to get married and one of the guests was too tall for any of the girls that were to be bridesmaids so they asked me if I wouldn't mind. At 5'9", I would have just been tall enough for the guy who was 6'3" or 6'4". Everyone involved and invited to the wedding already knew about me as Ericka, so I wasn't scared. I was actually delighted at the idea. What I didn't know until later was that the 'guy' I was to be matched up with was Gibby Haines of the Butt Hole Surfers. Sadly, the wedding fell through because the bride ran off with someone else.

I never heard of guys dressing as bridesmaids! I would think that it would take some of the focus off the bride and that would be sad!

The Bride is always the "star of the show" and represents the pinacle of beauty and femininity.

It is after all her day and she should be the center of attention!

Oh by the way the groom is the supporting actor in the show! The bride is the star!

OMG....can you imagine??!! It must be fantastic. I love those dresses...but like others, only in my dreams.

I have also read about so called true life stories about this, and wondered how much is fantasy and how much is fiction....I mean really, I'm pretty sure it does happen..... but how often?

That is usually when it IS done, special care is applied so the "bridesmaid" fits in with the rest. Usually no one , save for the immidiate wedding party knows the true gender of the bridesmaid---and the dressing and makup is done "straight" so to speak so "she" wont attract the wrong kind of attention and stand out from the others---Like you said, this IS the BRIDE'S show so the bridesmaid has to be very both passable in appearence and trained to blend in.

Sorry to spoil your party, but this all sounds like an urban myth to me. Yes, it would be fun.....as a fantasy idea...but I can't see it really happening other than to one TS every ten years or so....and even then that is pushing credibility.

I mean...just think about it. Under what circumstances would an entire family of the bride approve of such an arrangement? If it was a full transition TS, a member of the family, then yes, maybe , but for someone to just "dress up" for the day.....I can't see it happening.

"The bridesmaid has to be both passable in appearance and trained to blend in?"
There's people who spend all their lives trying to achieve that. It's not something you can knock off just for a bit of a buzz at your friend's wedding.

Nah, sorry....urban myth.

Well, Ive heard of this having been done from several sources--Indeed it was years ago when Ann Landers commented on one such event, that first perqued my interest. Several other writers responded with their own accounts---One had a sister who requested that all SEVEN of her brothers be bridesmaids---And they did it. The writer said "it was the talk of the town" , but the brothers defended their sister's wish. Its not an urban myth it has and DOES happen.----Even some news broadcaster, who's name I cant remember (I think he married Connie Chung) had a "turnabout wedding" where the men and women switched roles and clothing. (it was SOME famous news couple about 15 years back)

There is also a legit bride Forum thay discussed it about a few weeks ago---It seems that even MORE boys 6-10 years Old are getting to be full blown 'flower girls" than their older brothers being bridesmaids.---There were several accounts of THIS reported---The moderator later removed some of the bridesmade accounts and a flower girl story or two---as (she explained) "it was getting out of hand "

http://www.atlantabridal.com/fashion/children/flowergirl.asp

Im not too much into little boys being flowergirls or even CDing as a little girl Personally---as LG's dont wear makeup, high heels or have any of the interesting other body parts that interest most CDs.

My wife and I had a portrait/wedding service many years ago (for about 10 years). Over that time, we saw lots of "different" things. Yes "flower Boys" are out there. We probably saw 5 or 6 that I remember (that we actually knew they were boys), and all in various forms of dress. The oldest one was around 10 that I remember. The easiest to remember was a boy of about 8 as his dress was a carbon copy of the Brides. Also over that time period, I know of at least 2 times where boys were Bridesmaids. One was a fill-in for an accident (the Bridesmaid-to-be's brother). He was 12 and totally blended in with the other girls. The other was actually the Maid of Honor. The Groom had 4 brothers and the Bride 4 sisters and one brother. The Groom had his best friend at his side to keep from having to pick one brother over another as best man. So to keep the balance, the Bride asked her brother (he was the youngest in the family at 14) to be her Maid of Honor. I guess it started out as a joke that didn't stay one. Only the wedding party and immidate families (and us shooting the photos and studio's of the Bride and Maid) knew and he was stunning. As comfortable as he was, either it wasn't his first time or they had been practicing with him a lot. I honestly didn't approach the family on the subject, but I think he had lots of practice as his natural hair was at the bottom of his shoulder blades and for the wedding at least, very feminine cut.

I think given the odds of probabilty it must happen sometimes
I would expect it to happen at a small intimate wedding, rather than a large gathering.

But who could pss up the chance if invited to be the bridesmaid.

I was promiseed the job of matron of honour by my neighbour at her wedding :) a while ago, but then she split with her BF :( . Never mind, she's got another BF now so if neither of us move in the mean time, perhaps it will still happen.

My sister said that I could be her bridesmaid if she ever got married. Although it is unlikely to ever happen. For one thing she isn't likely to be getting married any time soon, if ever. For another, as has been noted already, unless I was totally out and accepted by family and friends alike, it would take focus from her on her day. It is a nice fantasy, though I suspect that is all it is.

My sister is getting married in three weeks, but she's a non understander, and she's marrying an up-tight homophobic, trannyphobic, controll freak... So no chance of me being a blushing bridesmaid ,or even a matron of (doubtfull) honour.
Out of sheer naughtyness, I will be wearing my very best undies. I can't go dressed the way I'd love to go... but I feel I will have made a little effort and my own private statement, and hell, it'll keep me relaxed through the stressfull day.

Oh... by the way, the cretin she's marrying is also my boss, you can probably imagine how thrilled I am :(

Funny if they were spying on me (they spy on my eBay account, hence I keep my feedback private now) and they read this ! Haaaa ha ha ha ha!! they could never admit to it.... but they'd both KNOW !

When my sister married several years ago a male friend of hers dressed as her bridesmaid. Seems he had bet her she'd never get married again and my sister took him up on it with the deal if he lost he'd have to be her bridesmaid. He lost and my sis made him pay his dues. It wasn't a pretty picture as he had a beard he refused to shave and really wasn't into it at all.

Julie it's too bad you weren't the one who made that bet with your sister. You'd have made a great bridesmaid AND had fun doing it.

Actually, I've never heard of male bridesmaids wearing dresses & makeup. I've been to several weddings & have known lots of brides who had male bridesmaids/ man of honor. What they usually do is they have the male bridesmaid/ man of honor wear a tie/ vest color to match the bridesmaid party.

I also know a few bride grooms that have women as their best woman. They usually wear a black dress with an accent to match the rest of the groomsmen but they don't wear a tux or anything.

I'd be interested to see pics of a wedding like that where the male bridesmaid wear dresses & makeup. Deffinitely interesting &

That's fantastic Crystal! Can you tell us when in October?

Just so we won't forget, I will add it to the calendar we have here so we will all remember ;) Good luck and your brother is so lucky

In case your brother backs out, you should do it! Didn't you get a 100% fem haircut recently? You should ask if you can do it, that would be great!

Wouldnt we all---Admitedly THIS kind of wedding event is RARE----even though it does happen --and a lot more often than any of us might think.

The reason we dont see many pics is, for one thing it IS very rare--a small percentage of weddings---and even then its likely is this is usually NOT something done for CD consumption or purposes, but usually something done to be sort of 'humourous" or "cute" or utilitarian and with the co-operation of, and an audience of generally "straight" individuals----a big deal is definately NOT to be made of it, as it would take away attention from the bride, and the "secret" is usually kept in tight family circles.--Perhaps only mentioned in a humurous context at later family gatherings, to the expense of the "victim".

None of these things is very conducive of posting pictures of what is a rare event to begin with.---- hense pictures would be very hard to find----and if it were done right, you couldnt tell anyway.

I haven't been a bridesmaid but i have worn a bridesmaids dress.

After my oldest sister's wedding when i was 16 my parents had all the dresses in their room and left to do something. I was at home alone and tried on the only one that was my size. Beautiful peach color. It felt so nice...*sigh* oh well.
