I'm thinking about taking the plunge and flying en femme to Southern Comfort. The cheapest flights I can get are on Southwest to Birmingham, AL and then drive to Atlanta. I was curious if anyone has flown through either Dallas Love Field or Birmingham? Specifically, issues with staff, TSA, did you find any non-gender bathrooms (can't find any on either airport's websites). Any advice, suggestions, etc. are welcome!

I haven't been here long, but I bet TxKimberly has flown from Dallas. Birmingham shouldn't be a problem ~ go on the airplane and wait until you're in your room. You're like me I guess: I have so far avoided using the ladies'.

I just had my first "flying pretty" experience, from DC to Topeka. Everything went smoothly and I had a great time. I journaled it in http://youCanCallMeMeg.blogspot.com. Y'know, I've mentioned this so many times I feel like I'm an ad for myself. :)

I am preparing to fly from Denver to Chicago on Monday. Something which I have never done before. I don't expect any problems. I also just finished driving from Denver to Dallas. That was a long drive through redneck country and I am still here to tell about it. Just be careful. There are a lot of older convenience stores which have unisex bathrooms in them which will work. Just be careful and mostly enjoy the trip.

Michelle, I hadn't thought of that. Also gas stations and the attached inconvenience stores often have single-stall restrooms.

I fly into Dallas often, but in male mode. I have never seen any transgender dressers in the airport during my travels. I have not seen any transgender or single bathrooms either. I would be very cautious with TSA in Dallas, they enjoy their jobs too much. I see them get very tough on travelers. They may just give you a hard time just for fun. I will be traveling to Dallas next week. I will check for you and see if I can observe more for you.

Heya!

I'm originally from B'ham.

There were no non-gender bathrooms the last time I was at airport, and I doubt that has changed. My few experiences with the staff were all positive although I have never been there (or anywhere) en femme. Atlanta is just a short 2 hour drive from there. Couldn't tell ya bout Dallas, though.

I can, however, say that I am ridiculously jealous of u :tongueout

<sigh>. Maybe I can attend next year.

Thanks Penny! That Birmingham is a two hour drive is why I'm willing to do it. Though I have to remember that I'm changing time zones, so the eastbound trip will be an extra hour.

I'm hoping that Kimberly has flown through DAL but since she's in Austin I doubt it. I prefer not to have to use the rest room on the plane-they're always cramped and I don't feel like attracting more attention than I need to.

The TSA agents at DAL seem a bit more aggressive than the ones at DFW; thanks for confirming this. Thanks for being my spy :)

I thought TSA are only intrested in security not what you look like ,I have
seen Three trans people at airports now I read all easy the only thing I would worry about
are peoples stares and the washroom if you don't pass well

I've flown through both, and I've flown FROM both (meaning my trip started there).
DFW does have a few family bathrooms but they don't have one at each set of bathrooms like some airports do. It's been a while, so I couldn't tell you where it was, but there should be a map of the airport inside the terminal and it will show you where to find the Family/Handicapped restrooms.
While I have flown in and out of Birmingham, it has also been a while, and I don't recall if they had a gender nuetral bathroom at all. Sorry! I CAN tell you that I had no trouble getting through security!

Thanks Kimberly! I'm going to fly up in drab because I am leaving really early in the morning, so I'll check out Love Field and Birmingham and then decide if I want to "fly pretty" on the way back.
