Well, it's time again for Toronto's annual 100 meter StyleSense Stiletto Sprint in support of women's cancer research, and the event is scheduled for September 17, 2010, starting at the unGodly hour of 6:00 A.M.

The good news: men are invited to compete along with the women, albeit in a separate category.
The bad news: There are three top prizes for the women for coming in First, Second, and Third, with the maximum prize being $10,000. There is only one prize for the men, however, and it pales by comparison - $1000. The tongue-in-cheek reason given is that we need fewer shoes. Clearly, the organizers of this event haven't met some of the gurlz on this forum, who could quickly set them straight on this score - yours truly included :doh::heehee: Still, it does smack of discrimination to some extent, and one can only imagine the hue and cry if the tables were reversed, and it was the women who were shut out of the big prizes in this manner.
I guess the only saving grace here is that last year's female winner bested the male winner (Kristopher Vardy) by only 3/10 of a second, and he actually beat the second place female runner in terms of the actual numbers. Then again, maybe that is the reason for the separate competition. How embarrassing would it have been if the men and women had competed shoulder-to-shoulder, and a man had crossed the finish line second in a combined field of approx. 70 contestants? Couldn't have that, now could we? - and kind of a variant on Harry Truman's famous adage of "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!"
Still, the male contestant's time was pretty impressive overall. Wonder if he was actually one of us and therefore had lots of previous experience walking in 3" stilettos :heehee:.
