Lately, when I girl up, I have been into pop music. Lady Gaga- Alejandro, Katy Perry- California girls, Ke$ha- Your Love is My Drug, Jason DeRulo and so on. Madonna has been with me for 25 years too. She introduced me to sex as a teen. This music fits my mood so well when I dress. I feel like I am a young girl who is discovering makeup, clothes, jewelry, sensuality, her body, etc. I am a happy, playful, easy going sort and Amanda is an enhanced version of my personality. I am sure that others have their Girl Music. I would love to see what other CD soundtracks are.

I'm still hanging on to "Invincible Summer" by K.D.Laing. But there are a lot of female Jazz singers, from Norah Jones and Madeleine Peyroux to Peggy Lee and Cleo Laine who suggest there's a lot more to the female experience than I'll ever figure out or understand.

Although I like dance beats, I can't stand any of that stuff with autotune. I don't tend to separate the boy and girl music too much, I listen to both either way, but I do like my female singers a little more when in girl mode.
Dido, Lene Marlin, Lorenne McKennit, Sarah McLachlin, Alanis, Jewel, Shania, Colbie Caillat, Sia, Michelle Branch

You would think that being a couple of generations removed from Taylor Swift would disconnect me from her music, but I think her stuff is as girly as it gets. That and the music on the Kindle commercials.

I'm not sure I'll ever understand why music needs to be stereotyped as "girl music" or whatever. Different people like many different genres of music.

Any 'house' music in general for me.

Have to agree with the Natalie Merchant note and all her stuff with the 10,000 Maniacs. Also........... No Doubt, Alanis, Elastica, 4 Non Blondes (yeah, really). Not into dance-pop-rap-or country.
Country?....would rather have oral surgery without anesthesia.

Haven't found many non female acts or artists that rasie the needle on my girly meter. mj (Cassie)

Hi Amanda,

I pretty much like the same sorts of things as you do for my "girl music". Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Madonna, but also Taylor Swift and Gwen Stefani too :) I usually listen to this type of music when I'm getting ready to go out for the evening (putting on makeup, choosing my outfit etc) and I also sometimes have a few sips of some Chardonnay to help things along too :D

I think that my music tastes are basically "girly" and don't change that I'm in boy mode or in girl mode...

I really like Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana, Selena Gomez, the Jonas Brothers, Snow Patrol, School Gyrls,...

But sometimes I also listen to a bit of oldschool hardrock music like Metallica or my favourite (in hardrock music) AC/DC

The secret to staying young, healthy and happy is lots of dancing !

As the Doobie Brothers said in 1972 in their trackListen to the Music:

" ... were gonna dance the blues away ..."

Hit that dance floor and live to 100 years old girls !

This one is easy. Melissa Etheridge, and sometimes Cyndi Lauper. Funny thing is Melissa was a favorite of the boy side too growing up.

Easy answer -- It's Blue Turns to Grey by Cliff Richard and Shadows. On go my denim mini or legging and long sweatshirt and I'm a go-go dancer on Top of the Pops!

Most of my favorite music remains the same regardless of appearance. My big four are Pink, Gwen, Gaga and Bif Naked. Every now and again I get a hankering for Korn, Jhonny Cash and Social Distortion.

Being a Disco CD Chick in the 70's, you know the sexy clothes, heavy makeup and overdone hair with Empire State height Platform shoes....

It has to be France Joli (The Heart to Break the Heart).

That song still does it for me!

This is an interesting question for me.
When in man mode I only like classical music. But as Susy I am into pop, Lady Ga Ga and so on.
It fascinates me that I am such a different being when I am Suzy.
Fascinating!

Have fun, SUZY

There is as much variety as I expected. While I must add that I am a hard rock,Punk, rock, pop Green Day,Metallica, Foo Fighters fan in boy mode It can carry over to girl mode. But there still is something about new pop that reminds me of the 80's when I was a teen. Just a few out now but they have a fun feel again. Yes, they are AutoTuned now but some keep it subtle. Thanks for sharing.

Music in general is a HUGE part of my life. There is no boy or girl mode for me anymore its all just me. But I have noticed that I am much more into things I can dance to recently. In the past year I have started listing to artists such as T-pain Gaga Katy Perry Rihanna and the odd one Blue October (they are a cross-genre band). I have also found a few songs here and there by random similar artists. Im kinda picky about music but I love all types (cept maybe country but I did live with people who listen to nothing but country for so long) maybe some day I will like it again . . . then again maybe not lol!

Madonna is like #1, 2, and 3 on my list. I really like Christina Aguilera too when I’m in a girly mood. I’m loving the Katy Perry song right now. I can’t get it out of my head. Amanda, I know what you mean. I do enjoy pop music much more than my normal musical taste when dressing and feeling fem. Even hearing some of these songs will give me that good girly feeling. One of my favorite songs that gives me that great feeling is Freedom by George Michael. That is my CD girly anthem! The video might be my fav of all time. xx Patti.

Lotsa folks mentioned Katy Perry. I don't necessarily like her, but I will admit that the first time I heard California Gurls, I would have swore that she sang a line about 'the boys in their bikinis' :D

My ears are tuned weird!

I don't differentiate, though I tend to skip more misogynistic music when I'm in girl mode.

I have nearly 12,000 tracks in my iTunes and sorting through it all would take me more time than I care to spend on such a task

I do not have any girl or other music cause I'm tone deaf. I do like 50's/60's rock (loud) but no particular gender of groups or individuals. Music just has not been important to me. Most saddles did not have a radio when I was riding the range.

A Fine Frenzy ~ Almost Lover
Katy Perry ~ I Kissed a Girl
Nancy Sinatra ~ Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole ~ Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Heather Nova ~ Like Lovers Do
Keane ~ Everybody's Changing
Miley Cyrus ~ The Climb
The Turtles ~ Happy Together
The Casinos ~ Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye

It is somehow interesting that although some styles of music overlap most of my girl music is just that, it makes Alexia perk up and then the old stuff would only fit the old guy.
Alexia loves:
Kylie Minogue
Deep house
Lounge
Karsh Kale
Bob Sinclar
Hird
Dzihan & Kamien
Lovetronic
Andrea&Costi
Hed Kandi
Smooth Jazz
Acid Jazz

I don't have what you would call "girl" music. I love jazz and have listened to artists from Louis Armstrong to John Coltrane to Wynton Marsalis. On the other hand I guess if I listen to female performers such as Mary Lou Williams and Ella Fitzgerald, does that count?
