View Full Version : Songs that can relate to crossdressing

Two songs of late that I have discovered that relate to crossdressing.
The First one is King for a day by greenday.
The main lyric is ''King for a day, Princess by dawn'' - apparently the band have a thing for crossdressing.
The second is resistance by Muse. Not a crossdressing song but the opening lyrics some up some of our common fears im sure:
'' Is your Secret Safe Tonight and are we out of sight?
Or will our world come tumbling down?
Will They Find Our hiding Place?...''
Youtube the songs or google the full lyrics, just was listening intently to those two while on itunes and here, funny revelation

check out george michael's freedom 90's
Heaven knows I was just a young boy
Didn't know what I wanted to be
I was every little hungry schoolgirl's pride and joy
And I guess it was enough for me
To win the race? A prettier face!
Brand new clothes and a big fat place
On your rock and roll TV
But today the way I play the game is not the same
No way
Think I'm gonna get myself happy
I think there's something you should know
I think it's time I told you so
There's something deep inside of me
There's someone else I've got to be
Take back your picture in a frame
Take back your singing in the rain
I just hope you understand
Sometimes the clothes do not make the man

I love Muse, and had never thought of that particular lyric that way. Here's a quote from Matt Bellamy:
"This song started off as an extension of 'Map of the Problematique' with a bit of influence from early 'The Police'. It is very much based on the book '1984' by George Orwell particularly the romance between Winston and Julia and the description of the act of sex and love as something political, the only place offering freedom from Big Brother. The song is also about any love which crosses boundaries such as religion or strong political beliefs and the subsequent recognition of the unimportance and divisiveness of such beliefs."
I suppose the bolded text could apply to us as well :)

Yeah thats true, those very broad open kind of quotes are open to interpretation.

one i always think of is not about dressing at all
its about addiction..but has parallels to how i always felt
"feeling alright" by traffic
seems i've got have a change of scene
because every nite its the strangest dream
imprisoned by the way it could have been
left here on my own or so it seems
i've got to leave before i start to scream
but someone's locked the door and took the key..
You feeling alright?
I'm not feeling too good myself
Heh
i'm not sure but somehow that quote pretty much sums up many years for me...and of course the someone with the key was me!!! i'm feeling very metaphysical tonite:drink:

Kaitlyn, as much as I love songs focused on crossdressers cos it means someone is thinking of us heh but songs that mean alot to an individual that remind them of CDing are great, your example is the text book example

probably applicable to anyone who's unsure of their position, but Matchbox 20's "Unwell" fits the bill rather nicely i think. I've bolded the sections that seem to stand out in particular to me.
All day
Staring at the ceiling
Making friends with shadows on my wall
All night
Hearing voices telling me
That I should get some sleep
Because tomorrow might be good for something
Hold on
I'm feeling like I'm headed for a
Breakdown
I don't know why
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know, right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know, right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be
Me
Talking to myself in public
Dodging glances on the train
I know
I know they've all been talking 'bout me
I can hear them whisper
And it makes me think there must be something wrong
With me
Out of all the hours thinking
Somehow
I've lost my mind
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know, right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be
I been talking in my sleep
Pretty soon they'll come to get me
Yeah, they're taking me away
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know, right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy I'm just a little impaired
I know, right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be
Hey, how I used to be
How I used to be, yeah
Well I'm just a little unwell
How I used to be
How I used to be

I suspect it's too obvious to even post......
Madonna, "What it feels like for a girl".
"[Spoken:]
Girls can wear jeans
And cut their hair short
Wear shirts and boots
'Cause it's OK to be a boy
But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading
'Cause you think that being a girl is degrading
But secretly you'd love to know what it's like
Wouldn't you
What it feels like for a girl
Silky smooth
Lips as sweet as candy, baby
Tight blue jeans
Skin that shows in patches
Strong inside but you don't know it
Good little girls they never show it
When you open up your mouth to speak
Could you be a little weak
Do you know what it feels like for a girl
Do you know what it feels like in this world
For a girl
Hair that twirls on finger tips so gently, baby
Hands that rest on jutting hips repenting
Hurt that's not supposed to show
And tears that fall when no one knows
When you're trying hard to be your best
Could you be a little less
Do you know what it feels like for a girl
Do you know what it feels like in this world
What it feels like for a girl
Strong inside but you don't know it
Good little girls they never show it
When you open up your mouth to speak
Could you be a little weak
Do you know what it feels like for a girl
Do you know what it feels like in this world
For a girl
In this world
Do you know
Do you know
Do you know what it feels like for a girl
What it feels like in this world "

One song that I like is "Land of Confusion" by Genesis, later rerecorded by Disturbed. I know it's not a "girly" song but it's lyrics speak to me.

I think "Peaches" by The presidents of the united states of america is a good one...
Strange? Well just think he says "peaches come from a can, they were put there by a man in a factory downtown"
But what he REALLY means is that man that put the peaches in a can was probably wearing a bra and pantyhose under his work clothes and was posting about it on some crossdresser forum about how naughty he felt.
What was also not mentioned in the song was how he got called into the bosses office and his pant leg raised a bit and he thinks the boss saw his pantyhosed ankle.

Placebo - Lady of the Flowers
'Scuse me, I apologize
he likes your attitude, he tries it on for size
he spends the afternoon, between your thighs
how's that for gratitude, I apologize.
It seemed to last for hours
It seemed to last for days
This lady of the flowers
and her hypnotic gaze.
'Scuse me, I apologize
she's got vacum cleaner eyes
suck you in
she's got magazines, filled with hair pies
'scuse me, I apologize
It seemed to last for hours
It seemed to last for days
This lady of the flowers
and her hypnotic gaze.
She wears her tears on her blouse
confused and racked with self-doubt
she stole the keys to my house
and then she locked herself out.
'Scuse me, I apologize
he likes your attitude, he tries it on for size
he spends the afternoon, between your thighs
how's that for gratitude, I apologize.
It seemed to last for hours
It seemed to last for days
This lady of the flowers
her electronic haze.
She wears her tears on her blouse
confused and racked with self-doubt
she stole the keys to my house
and then she locked herself out.
She stole the keys to my house
and then she locked herself out.
She lays me down
she lays me.

Another one from Placebo. this time 'Nancy boy'
Alcoholic kind of mood
lose my clothes, lose my lube
cruising for a piece of fun
looking out for number one
different partner every night
so narcotic outta sight
what a gas, what a beautiful ass.
And it all breaks down at the role reversal,
got the muse in my head she's universal,
spinnin' me round she's coming over me, me.
And it all breaks down at the first rehearsal,
got the muse in my head she's universal,
spinnin' me round she's coming over me, me
Kind of buzz that lasts for days
had some help from insect ways
comes across all shy and coy
just another nancy boy.
Woman man or modern monkey
just another happy junkie
fifty pounds, press my button
going down.
And it all breaks down at the role reversal
got the muse in my head she's universal,
spinnin' me round she's coming over me, me.
And it all breaks down at the first rehearsal,
got the muse in my head she's universal,
spinnin' me round she's coming over me, me.
Does his makeup in his room
douse himself with cheap perfume
eyeholes in a paper bag
greatest lay I ever had
kind of guy who mates for life
gotta help him find a wife
we're a couple, when our bodies double.
And it all breaks down at the role reversal
got the muse in my head she's universal,
spinnin' me round she's coming over me, me.
And it all breaks down at the first rehearsal,
got the muse in my head she's universal,
spinnin' me round she's coming over me, me.
And it all breaks down at the role reversal,
got the muse in my head she's universal,
spinnin' me round she's coming over me, me.
And it all breaks down at the first rehearsal,
got the muse in my head she's universal,
spinnin' me round she's coming over me, me.

I always felt that the song "You need me" by Mariah Carey in her debut album was about the inner self stating that to the outer self. I really related to the lyrics of that song.:)

Shirley Bassey does two which have been associated with gays for some time but equally fit CD's "This is my life" & "I am what I am"
I recently heard a song from the UK's Susan Boyle which fits the non closeted CD, "Who I was born to be"
When I was a child, I could see the wind in the trees
And I heard a song in the breeze, It was there, singing out my name
But I am not a girl, I have known the taste of defeat
And I've finally grown to believe, It will all came around again
And though I may not know the answers, I can finally say I am free
And if the questions led me here, Then, I am who I was born to be
And so here am I, Open arms and ready to stand
I've got the world in my hands, And it feels like my turn to fly
When I was a child, There were flowers that bloomed in the night
Unafraid to take in the light, Unashamed to have braved the dark
Though I may not know the answers, I can finally say I am free
And if the questions led me here, Then I am who I was born to be.
Also there is Secret Love by Kathy Kirby which fits the fully out CD.
I use it in my signature below.

"Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie (the cover of this song by Dead or Alive is also really good).

This one really speaks to me - not so obvious
Isis by the Goo Goo Dolls
I don't want the world to see me
I don't think that they'd understand
Everthings made to be broken
But I want you to know who I am, yes I want you to know who I am.

Kill Miss America by the Murder Dolls (This is kinda my theme song lol)
I wanna be a ****ing prize winning drag queen
With the platform boots and the tombstone looks
I want the whole world to hate me
With the bolts on my neck and the gun in my dress
Tonight I’m the prettiest zombie alive
I’m alive, I’m alive, I’m alive
And I don’t care what it takes I’m gonna win the prize
I’m gonna kill Miss America
Kill Miss America
Kill Miss America
Kill Miss America, yeah, yeah, yeah
I want you to spit when you see me
And if you don’t I’m gonna spit on you
I love it when they hate me
And when I win I’m gonna rub it in
Tonight I’m the prettiest zombie alive
I’m alive, I’m alive, I’m alive
And I don’t care what it takes I’m gonna win the prize
I’m gonna kill Miss America
Kill Miss America
Kill Miss America
Kill Miss America, yeah, yeah, yeah
I got murder on my mind
Ten seconds till death tonight
Mama’s little baby’s gonna die, die, die
I’ll cut her throat and take what’s mine
(insert scream here)
I’m gonna kill Miss America
Kill Miss America
Kill Miss America
Kill Miss America
I’m gonna kill miss America
I’m gonna kill miss America
I’m gonna kill miss America
I’m gonna kill miss America, America
Kill, kill, kill miss America

...many of the sentiments expressed in this older song entitled "I Enjoy Being a Girl" from the musical "The Flower Drum Song" (well, except for the being drooled over by a guy part, anyway :doh::heehee:):
"I'm a girl, and by me that's only great!
I am proud that my silhouette is curvy,
That I walk with a sweet and girlish gait
With my hips kind of swivelly and swervy.
I adore being dressed in something frilly
When my date comes to get me at my place.
Out I go with my Joe or John or Billy,
Like a filly who is ready for the race!
When I have a brand new hairdo
With my eyelashes all in curl,
I float as the clouds on air do,
I enjoy being a girl!
When men say I'm cute and funny
And my teeth aren't teeth, but pearl,
I just lap it up like honey
I enjoy being a girl!
I flip when a fellow sends me flowers,
I drool over dresses made of lace,
I talk on the telephone for hours
With a pound and a half of cream upon my face!
I'm strictly a female female
And my future I hope will be
In the home of a brave and free male
Who'll enjoy being a guy having a girl... like... me.
When men say I'm sweet as candy
As around in a dance we whirl,
It goes to my head like brandy,
I enjoy being a girl!
When someone with eyes that smoulder
Says he loves ev'ry silken curl
That falls on my iv'ry shoulder,
I enjoy being a girl!
When I hear the compliment'ry whistle
That greets my bikini by the sea,
I turn and I glower and I bristle,
But I happy to know the whistle's meant for me!
I'm strictly a female female
And my future I hope will be
In the home of a brave and free male
Who'll enjoy being a guy having a girl... like... me."
Then again, there's always Shania Twain's "Man! I feel Like a Woman". Or maybe we can apply our own particular interpretation to Diana Ross' "I'm Coming Out"?

Dude looks like a lady is the song your referencing I think.
Anyway I don't seem to be coming across any songs that directly relate to cding, but I've got a myriad of them that deal with how we choose to live. Two that recently came to life are "It's my life" by Bon Jovi and "What If" by Emilie Autumn.
"It's my life" talks about having the strength to be yourself regardless of what the rest of the world thinks, while "What if" talks about looking beyond the surface of what's there and accepting what lies underneath.

Fairly self explanatory song by the Manic Street Preachers :-p
"Born a girl"
Does exactly what is says on the tin that. From the album "This is My Truth Tell Me Yours"
Song comes bassist & now lyricist of the Manics' - Nicky Wire - as he regular crossdresses on stage. Its quite a laid back, unusual, wintery sound song with harmonica & subdued guitars.
Lyrics:
"Do I look good for you tonight
Will you accuse me as I hide
Behind these layers of disguise
And the mirrors of my own happiness
I've loved the freedom of being inside
Need a new start and a different time
Something grows in the space between me
And it's twisting and changing this fragile body
And I wish I had been born a girl
Instead of what I am
Yes I wish I had been born a girl
And not this mess of a man
And not this mess of a man
And not this mess of a man
The censorship of my skin
Is screaming inside and from within
There's no room in this world for a girl like me
No place around there where I fit in"
repeat chorus.
...Oooh, though its not about crossdressing or such; "Girl Anachronism" by the Dresden Dolls is such a manic, infectious, imaginative song about feeling out of place that, to me anyway, its rings alot of bells. On a side note - the music video is brilliantly unhinged!

Just to clarify about the song I put up - hope no one gets too down about the lyrics!! I wasn't trying to depress anyone.
But I put them up as, naturally, some of us may sympathise with those particular lyrics. I know I do...however despite the fact I am still upset that I've never fitted the "manly man" ideal, I'm happy with the feminine side now, so I can hear Born a Girl & realise how far I've come in acceptance.
:-)
So... don't shoot me for posting it! Warning shots at the very most :-p

How about Take A Walk On The Wildside By Lou Reed
Holly came from Miami, F.L.A.
Hitch-hiked her way across the USA
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she
She says, Hey babe
Take a walk on the wild side
She said, Hey honey

Lola by the kinks was mentioned before
So I thought I should post the lyrics for those not old enough to remember them
It was a pretty TABOO song in the 1960's when it came out
Lola lyrics
Songwriters: Davies, Raymond Douglas;
I met her in a club down in old Soho
Where you drink champagne
It tastes just like Cherry Cola, C-O-L-A cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice
She said Lola, L-O-L-A, Lola, L-L-Lola
Well, I'm not the world's most physical guy
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
Oh my Lola, L-L-Lola
Well, I'm not dumb but I can't understand
Why she walked like a woman but talked like a man
Oh my Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
Well, we drank champagne and danced all night
Under electric candlelight
She picked me up and sat me on her knee
And said, "Dear boy, won't you come home with me?"
Well, I'm not the world's most passionate guy
But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my Lola
L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
I pushed her away, I walked to the door
I fell to the floor, I got down on my knees
Then I looked at her and she at me
That's the way that I want it to stay
I always want it to be that way for my Lola, L-L-Lola
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It's a mixed up muddled up, shook up world
Except for Lola, L-L-Lola
Well, I left home just a week before
And I'd never ever kissed a woman before
But Lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said, "Dear boy, I'm gonna make you a man"
Well, I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
it was either this or Shania Twain's "Man! I feel Like a Woman"

TERRORVISION - JOSEPHINE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vh2JYkjHXk
I had a friend called Joe,
When friends were hard to find,
He had a restless soul,
And something on his mind,
One day I went away,
and then returned to the scene,
Not to find restless Joe no,
But to find Josephine,
I asked her what her game was,
She said Joe had left the scene,
I asked her what her name was,
And she said.......They call me Josephine.
It took a while to click,
But then I got the gist,
The girl by my side,
Was the guy I'd missed,
I took her for a beer,
To talk about old times,
Just to find that beer,
Was now a sweet white wine,
I asked her what her game was,
She said Joe had left the scene,
I asked her what her name was,
And she said.......They call me Josephine.
So we talked all night,
And I just can't pretend,
Although I lost old Joe,
I got a new girlfriend,
I asked her what her game was,
She said Joe had left the scene,
I asked her what her name was,
And she said.......They call me Josephine.
I asked her what her game was,
She said Joe had left the scene,
I asked her what her name was,
And she said.......They call me Josephine.

Geez!!! I can't belive it took untill the second page to come up with "Dude looks like a lady". It was the first thinjk I thought of as soon I saw the slugline for the tread.
Then of course my thoughts quickly turned to "Lola", and then to "Take a walk on the wild side'...
Anywho, back to Areosmith... I always heard Steve wrote DLLAL about himself. Steve is one of "us" ya all.... Atlest to certin point anyway. He confines his dressing, (atleast in public anway) to bloues and women's pants. But I saw an interview with Liv Tyler that hints that his CDing in private goes way beyond that.
Live'n on the edge is kinda bout that to.
More tivia,,, "Sweet Emotion" is about Joe's wife. Steve wrote it after the wedding. He was pissed 'cause he wanted Joe. I don't know if Steve "bats for both teams" if you will, or if joe is an exception.

I'm "curious" about the lyrics (The original video clip (copies on youtube) feature some very nice dresses too!):
You can't mistake my Biology
The way that we talk
The way that we walk
It's there in our thoughts
The magic numbers in front of me
The way that we talk
The way that we walk
So easily caught
We're gonna cause a controversy
The way that we talk
The way that we walk
So easily caught

This part is just how i feel about the shallow minded people that force so many of us to never step out of our homes for fear of how people could react, i wish i could just let them walk in my shoes (size 8 pink ballet pumps at the min!) and see that i can't help what i like to do, although it may also tell the douches to stay true to themselves too i guess :)
In my shoes, just to see
What it's like, to be me I'll be you, let's trade shoes
Just to see what it'd be like to
Feel your pain, you feel mine
Go inside each other's mind
Just to see what we find
Look at **** through each other's eyes
But don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful oh
They can all get ******.
Just stay true to you so
Don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful
Oh they can all get ******. Just stay true to you
The next bit is just how i imagine i'll be feeling on my first daylight public outing, just trying my best to blend and go un-noticed!
I almost feel like I gotta check the temperature in the room
Just as soon as I walk in
It's like all eyes on me
So I try to avoid any eye contact
'cause if I do that then it opens a door for conversation
Like I want that... I'm not looking for extra attention
I just want to be just like you
Blend in with the rest of the room
Maybe just point me to the closest restroom

I'm "curious" about the lyrics (The original video clip (copies on youtube) feature some very nice dresses too!):
You can't mistake my Biology
The way that we talk
The way that we walk
It's there in our thoughts
The magic numbers in front of me
The way that we talk
The way that we walk
So easily caught
We're gonna cause a controversy
The way that we talk
The way that we walk
So easily caught
Noticed a few lines in Girls Aloud songs Alluding to CDing, must agree about the video, some gorgeous outfits in most of their videos
A CD friend of mine told me that Suzanne Vega sang a song relating to CrossDressing, does anyone know if this is true, and If so what is the title?

I've posted the lyrics to The Kinks' "Out of the Wardrobe" here before. That's my favorite, along with Bowie's "Rebel, Rebel." But I often catch myself singing Monty Python's "Lumberjack Song." When I do webcam chats dressed and I'm outed I often say that I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok. :D

From the Oscar award winning song Things Have Changed:
This place ain't doing me any good
I'm in the wrong town, I should be in Hollywood
Just for a second there I thought I saw something move
Gonna take dancing lessons do the jitterbug rag
Ain't no shortcuts, gonna dress in drag :daydreaming:
Only a fool in here would think he's got anything to prove
Lot of water under the bridge, lot of other stuff too
Dont get up gentlemen, I'm only passing through
Even Good Ol' Bob...

Seriously? Nobody posted some of the songs that popped into my head (aside from "Dude Looks Like a Lady" and "Man, I Feel Like a Woman") For Example:
"I come home in the morning light
My mother says when you gonna live your life right
Oh mother dear we're not the fortunate ones
And girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun" - Cyndi Lauper "Girls just wanna have fun"
OR
"I was chasin' sun on 101
Somewhere around Ventura
I lost a universal joint and I had to use my finger
This tall lady stopped and asked
If I had plans for dinner
Said no thanks maam, back home
We like the girls that sing soprano" - Alan Jackson - "Where I Come From"
or even...
"I'm just a sweet Transvestite,
from Transexual, Transelvania."
And if I have to actually say where that's from you ladies need to watch more movies...

Then there's Madame George by Van Morrison-
Down on Cyprus Avenue
With a child-like vision leaping into view.
The clicking clacking of the high-heeled shoes,
Ford and Fitzroy; Madam George.
Marching with the soldierboy behind
He's much older now with hat on, drinking wine
And the smell of sweet perfume comes drifting thru
In the cool night breeze like Shalimar
And then your self control lets go
And suddenly you're up against the bathroom door.
The hallway lights are finely getting dim
You're in the front row touching him
And outside they're making all the stops
The kids out in the streets collecting bottle tops,
Going for cigarettes and matches to the shops,
Happy talking, Madam George
And that's when you fall, Oh,
Oh, that's when you fall
And you fall into a trance
Sitting on a sofa playing games of chance
With your folded arms in history books you glance
Into the eyes of Madam George
And you think you've found your bag,
You're getting weaker and your knees begin to sag
And in the corner playing dominoes in drag,
The one and only Madam George
And outside the frosty window raps
She says "Be cool, I think that it's the cops"
Stands up, drops everything she gots,
It's not easy now you know
Now you know you gotta go
Catch a train from Dublin up to Sandy Row,
In the wind, rain & fog & slush & snow
Keep on going on
Say good-bye we know you're pretty far out
And all the little boys comin' round
They got gold cigarette lighters in their pockets
Walking away from it all, so cool.
That's when you fall.

And of course "Make Up" by the legendary Mr Lou Reed -
Your face when sleeping is sublime
And then you open up your eyes
Then comes pancake factor number one
eyeliner, rose hips and lip gloss, such fun
You're a slick little girl
you're a slick little girl
Rouge and coloring, incense and ice
perfume and kisses, ooohhh, it's all so nice
You're a slick little girl
you're such a slick little girl
Now, we're coming out
out of our closets
Out on the streets
yeah, we're coming out
When you're in bed it's so wonderful
it'd be so nice to fall in love
When you get dressed I really get my fill
people say that it's impossible
Gowns lovely made out of lace
and all the things that you do to your face
You're a slick little girl
oh, you're a slick little girl
Eyeliner, whitener then color the eyes
yellow and green, ooohhh, what a surprise
You're a slick little girl
oh, you're such a slick little girl
Now, we're coming out
out of our closets
Out on the streets
yes, we're coming out
Yeah, we're coming out
yeah, we're coming out

I've noticed a few references to Lou Reed about his songs 'Make up' and of course 'Walk On The Wild Side'. Both songs are from his album 'Transformer' and as the title suggests the songs are related to the New York scene. All the songs relate to cd themes. Give the album a listen again and hear the lyrics. It's a great album too !
A song which inspired me to indulge myself more into Amanda and get out and enjoy myself too, is by Pink Floyd on the Dark Side of the Moon album called 'Time'
The lyrics are oh so true and time passes so quickly !

Gone by U2 - it's actually about fame, but it struck a chord when I was in a particularly pink fog period - though my interpretation is that overall it's more TS than CD (I consider myself to be the latter)
made more so as I also mis-heard the chorus as 'suit of lies' - representing a put-on male persona
...
You wanted to get somewhere so badly
You had to lose yourself along the way
You change your name, well that's okay, it's necessary
And what you leave behind you don't miss anyway
Goodbye...
You can keep this suit of lights
I'll be up with the sun
I'm not coming down
I'm not coming down
I'm not coming down
'Cause I'm already gone
Felt that way all along
Closer to you every day
I didn't want it that much anyway
You're taking steps that make you feel dizzy / (Gone)
Then you learn to like the way it feels / (Gone)
You hurt yourself you hurt your lover / (Gone)
Then you discover
What you thought was freedom is just greed / (Gone)

Cherry Lips by Garbage.
Awesome song with us in mind ;)

:iagree: Also, "Bleed Like Me"
"Laid" by James and "Seven Days In The Sun" by Feeder make reference to CDing, but the one I like best is "Into A Swan" by Siouxsie (I don't think it's about CDing - but the lyrics seem so appropriate to how I feel) :
What in the world is happening?
What in the world could this be?
I'm on the verge of an awakening
A new kind of strength for me
I feel a force I've never felt before
I don't want to fight it anymore
Feelings so strong can't be ignored
I burst out - I'm transformed
Rising up, shaking it off
The yesterday dreary
Graceful and strong, No more forlorn
Today's a jubilee
Don't be surprised
This change is my design
I feel a force I've never felt before
I don't want to fight it anymore
Feelings so strong can't be ignored
I burst out - I'm transformed
I feel a force I've never felt before
I can't hold it down I've just got to soar
And laugh in the face that is vulture law
I burst out, I'm transformed
I feel a force I've never felt before
I don't want to fight it anymore
Feelings so strong can't be ignored
I burst out - I'm transformed
I feel a force I've never felt before
I can't hold it down I've just got to soar
And laugh in the face that is vulture law
I burst out - I'm transformed
I burst right out - Into a swan
I burst out into a swan
Here's the video ...
