I was wondering if anybody has any experience with this and what kind of things makes some clinic better than others. I have found 3 with webpages in my area (Montreal).
http://www.cliniqueovo.com (http://www.cliniqueovo.com/fertility/ovo-fertility/index.asp?page=Sperm_freezing)
http://www.procrea.com (http://www.procrea.com/EN/spermfreezing.html)
http://www.montrealfertility.com (http://www.montrealfertility.com/FEES.HTML)
How many deposits does one typically have to make?
How long should you wait between deposits?
How long is the sample typically good for?
What are the options if you find a willing womb? Just IVF?
Thanks,
jenna xx

Shouldn't these questions be asked to the person at the sperm bank?
I have never been to one but I assume there is someone that a person would be able to sit down with and ask away.
Good luck and have fun:heehee:
Jenna, is this meant to save for if/when you find somebody special and have children with? Or general banking for anybody who may want it?
Either way, yes, these are questions best for the clinic itself. They'll know what the policies are and, in the case of general banking, all the red tape and legal procedure/options regarding parental rights, possible legal child support, privacy of personal information, and what may happen in the case that you're sued for any of these things or a child comes knocking on your door in 16 years.
For the former, IVF is usually the way they do it, but there are other methods out there that some fertilization doctors prefer and/or are more appropriate for the individual woman's circumstances.
I'm sure you already know this, but being tangled up in adoption and not knowing some parts of my biological family, I just want to stress that you give this a lot of important thought before you go ahead with it. It's a huge thing and can end up affecting many people in a big way.

I am looking to save a sample for future personal use only. Every clinic will tell me that there method is the best...I was looking for people that may have some real life experience in this situation. I know one girl here in Montreal that has had a biological child with her partner after GRS. I thought there might be others here with similar experience.

You are not limited to IVF, except if that is what the clinic you go to requires. I do not know the current thoughts on life span when frozen, but several years for sure. They will store 'em very very cold.... Number of deposits is up to you, but more cost more. You need to wait at least a week between samples to maximize the potential of the sample. As well, for a week beforehand you will need to "hold off" ... again to maximize the sperm sample. You'll have to ask each clinic for much more info. Make sure to ask about their policies wrst research (whether they sell excess off to research labs) and if you are incapacitated or die, what happens if your sperm samples are still there.
