View Full Version : "Manly" job by day......
Ms Taken

I am new here and I am still conflicted about being a transgendered person. A lot of my issues are centered around the fact that I work in heavy industry ( a power plant ), and I really enjoy doing a lot of the so called "manly" things I do on a day to day basis. I LOVE welding and fabrication, hot rods, motorcycles etc. but I also like to dress like a girl, and feel pretty. I am just wondering if there is anyone else around who does the same type of work, whether it's in a refinery, power plant, machine shop etc. and struggles with the same "total opposite" issues I have.

It's not really that uncommon among 'manly professions. A lot of service men enjoy crossdressing!'

Ms Taken,
Hun, look around you. There are women doing those jobs everyday. I'm one of them.
How men can think a job is manly, a concept that women have been disproving for years. Yes men do generally have larger and stronger muscles, but.

With my career in the telecommunications industry I have been involved in placing and repairing underground and aerial cables which involved climbing poles, working with machinery etc. Prior to my career in telecommunications I had worked in a steel foundry and also on the railroad.
One of my favorite hobbies (aside from CD) is pistol target shooting.
I have my (manly) side as well as my feminine side. I embrace my feminine side and am thankful for the balance it brings to my life.
On a side note: Don’t wear nylons or pantyhose while welding. Flying sparks or slag will cause the nylon to burn creating a worse burn to the skin than the sparks alone.
Bee safe,
Dee

I also love to weld and fabricate things. I am building a hot rod. I love to build, remodel, and repair houses.
I REALLY love to dress En Femme and go to public places! I love getting a manicure/pedicure and having my nails painted at a salon. The employees all know what color polish to get when I walk in the door.
There's no reason that you can't enjoy both.

IMO there is no better way to unwind after a long day at work than coming home and taking a hot shower then putting on a pretty dress or skirt.

I work in an almost exclusively male industry, I have some hobbies that are almost exclusively male also.
Most of the Cd's I have meet are from male predominate fields.
I also know women who work in these fields and enjoy these hobbies.
I still love to get dolled out and go out on the town or stay in and watch a movie.
Being TG/CD/TS does mean you fit a certain mold. We are all individuals.

I worked for 12 years at a power plant as a piping engineer and loved it. One of the clubs I go to, I found that six of us girls worked the engineering buisness and all of us loved car and motor cycle hobbies too! Your not alone loving to dress and still have boy hobbie. Just look around how many GG do these same hobbie and they all cross dress while motor cycling and working on cars! Go figure.

No need to worry, as you're see from the forum, there are ALOT of us who lead a normal "male" life from outsiders perspective, yet love womens clothes. I don't work in "heavy industry", I work in IT, a male dominated profession, and at home, lead a normal life with my wife as a male, husband, father would. But with my wife, Wear panties every day, wear nighties on the weekend, and enjoy time together dressed as female. :)

yeah, i am in construction, i weld, rebuild engines, all that stuff, and im always wearing panties, i sleep in nightgowns.
I look kinda tough too, bald head, lots of tats, ????? My bro inlaw knows about my crossdressing, caught me in panties at work a few times. He teases a little, I asked him how he would feel getting his butt kicked by someone wearing panties, or better yet, dressed fully in fem. He says he's never told anyone, but i get a few comments here and their, nothing too terrible, just stuff like "i think pink is your color" and a few others. I dont know who knows, but overall Im never treated different, which is fine with me

I am self employed and love to spend time in my shop building trailers and doing repairs. But all the time I'm working I allways drift off to wishing I was a girl. I feel that in a way, that I live 24\7as a female, for the feeling never goes away

Welcome to the club. Me too! My job is dirty and dangerous and I love it! I also love going to a salon and getting my hair styled and a pedicure while having some great girl talk! i have been seeing a therapist and she has helped me better understand this paradox! If you go this route, make sure you go to an expert in gender issues! WELCOME!!

I have an online friend who is transgender.. well maybe transexual.. if you look at her there is no question that she would be female. She has had implants, she has long hair, is small in height and body type.. and beautiful.. but she works as a mechanic and body person on cars. She also does some wonderful work on fixing up and painting cars. So in this day and time is there really a "manly" job that women don't do??

My tagline says it all. Yes, I really am a lumberjack. I buy timber, cut it, skid it out, deliver it.
Most of that requires heavy duty clothing, so I love the chance to wear some lighter and finer things on slower days.

I did rodeo, hunting small and big game for hobbies and farming part time as part of making a living. (Rodeo was trying to ride bulls and saddle broncs.) I still do horses, shoot and do mounted civil war reenacting in my 'old' age (67). Oh yah, I drove semi's for a while in the 60"s.

I'm a waterjet operator. I wear as girly as possible at work when I can, and that varies a lot, depending on which job. Now am in a new one, and am being more careful at first. Haven't let anyone at work see my shaved legs, though, or my toenail polish. Fingernail polish lasts only a couple of days in this kind of work.
Years ago I was at a log home builders show near Seattle, and there was a welder there working on a large gate as a demo. After a bit, off came the mask, and all the long gorgeous blond hair came spilling out. She was an absolutely gorgeous GG and a fantastic welder!
Hugs,
Ann

The only thing that makes a profession "manly" is the abject sexism that kept women out of said professions.
Thankfully, but slowly this is coming to an end.

Im in a job right now that has both men and women doing it, but have done a lot of things that were considered manly (whatever the heck that stands for). It never changed the way that I always felt- that I was a woman inside.

Hi Jinkzd
I am a self employed heavy truck and equipment mechanic , I weld , fabricate , paint and do installations on site. I don't own a car , only trucks , six of them to be exact , I ride a Harley in my spare time and I cross-dress while doing all of it , mostly under-dressed but yes I have a feminine side.
I no longer struggle with those feelings now that I have accepted myself and my cross-dressing as a positive part of who I am as a person.
I am happy and comfortable with who I am and fell lucky that I am a little bit different and have come to terms with it.
I hope that you are able to overcome your fears and conflicts and understand that it is OK to just be yourself !

I was (and still am on my own) a mechanic in a dealership for 5 years, a truck driver hauling coal and road construction stuff for twelve years and at the same time the mechanic for the company i worked for, and now i work for an orchard where i am a mechanic, engineer, repairman, and whatever else needs done. I love to rebuild motors, work on drag race cars, watch drag racing, love to remodel my house, love yard work. I am by all accounts an all american male, i just LOVE to dress in womens clothes, paint my nails, and absolutely adore high heels. This is not uncommon, just look at all the members here in this forum, why feel different, there are thousands of other just like you! Embrace who you are for your own sake, us pa girls (or guys lol) need to stick together!

Me Too, I'm retired now but for many years I worked in the building trades (carpenter and associated trades) which included equipment operation, truck driving, masonry, steelwork, and also power plant maintenance. these were all considered to be very manly jobs. However I secretly dressed when I was at home and never mentioned anything about it while at work because I didn't want to be the subject of ridecule. I guess some jobs are still considered bastions of masculinity where anything feminine is taboo.

I have been a gravedigger, digging with hand shovels and picks, and wheelbarrows. I never saw a GG gravedigger, but, who knows, there may be a few. I also worked, making industrial paints, toting 55 gallon drums around, weihing around 350 lbs. Only men working in that toxic place! I also love to fish, fix my vehicle, play basketball, other sports, shoot, , but enjoy dressing completely wig to heels, the most!

I am just plain tired of doing boy things!! As a lifelong commercial fisherman,[and crossdresser]worldwide mariner, marine engineer, marine electrician, fabricator, etc,I have been in lots of "tight spots"...And,I am really ready for a change..Only wish this economy would support it as I have a young family.I am more than ready for a change...if I could find one that pays the bills!

I worked in a warehouse, and now getting into a job that involves plumbing and electrical work and hauling bags of sand, etc. I'm also a caver, and do it quite often. Crawling through caves, counting insects and praying I don't come face to face with snakes and raccoons is a part of life for me! LOL Yet I go home, shave my legs, wear a blouse, etc.
It doesn't really confuse me going between these two parts of myself, it's just hard to keep skin nice and clear of cuts and bruises LOL.

I used to do drwall construction, metal stud framing, and acoustic ceilings. I quit about eleven years ago to become a housewife. :heehee: Still, my favorite outdoor activities are hiking and camping. When I dress, I prefer clothing that is very feminine, but that's to balance out the time I've had to spend wearing clothes that were very manly. :battingeyelashes:

I have wondered for a while now how life would turn out for many people if we simply let them excel in the areas they did best in without any regard for whether it was supposed to be a male or female thing. I did 20 years for the navy as a nuclear electrician and an explosive ordnance technician. My degree is in IT for network administration and my current job is as a facilities engineer. I've welcomed to anyplace I have been anyone whether male or female was willing to pull their own weight.
Valerie, love the crushed velvet it's one of my favorites!

3rd generation lumber mill worker. Started in a planer mill, then a log mill, plywood for a few months, then in engineered wood products for the housing industry, laid-off one year ago, after surviving several curtailments. I will say though that i worked along side several good women, and a few were girly girls away from work. Also a lifelong outdoorsman and hunter.

I work in construction, Ms. Taken. Like many others here, I kind of understand the dichotomy you face. I think things are changing a bit. While I haven't heard of anyone coming out about crossdressing at any job site I've been at, I think that there would be a bit more understanding now then 20+ years ago.
It may take some time, but you'll come to understand, accept, and embrace your feminine side.

I once did a poll of jobs on here. I don't remember the exact figures but the top ones were Engineering, Military, Emergency services. I reckon that all these would fall into "Manly" jobs. As for me I was a fire fighter.

Hi MS Taken
I own a towing company and am considered very macho by most everyones standards but when i am off i can hardly wait to shower and wear something pretty. I have been in many fights alongside police officers arresting someone for DUIs and resisting. I have 6 comendations from the police for assisting an officer. So i dont think it matters what you do at work as long as you enjoy both sides of your personality. It is a relief to go home after a long guy day and have a long girl night. So ENJOY yourself and feel free to speak out here on this forum, we all are just girls in waiting (waiting to get home to our girl world).

Sorry to be so disagreeable with every one, But I spent 30 years in a very manly business, I'm and old furniture mover, a few women tried it, never where able to keep up with the work. dragging pianos up and down stairs is not an easy thing to do. But after a hard days work, putting in miles of walking, and carrying heavy stuff up and down staircases, putting up with people that have to move for what ever reason that didn't want to. Things like husbands job transfered him, and she doesn't want to move. Getting home to a bubble bath, and a nice soft nightie, just made my day.
Also did time in the service, as a lot of us on here have. I took up archery because I thought it would be a manly hobby, but I gave it up, I got tired of all the girls beating be at it.lol

I've been a meat cutter for two decades, and worked in the electrical and HVAC field for a while. However my being hot-natured and the idea of climbing through attics during July-August wasn't my ideal way of making a living. I'm also the very male-dominated hobbies of amateur radio and TV-FM DXing, and yes I have built a few custom-made antennas.

IMO there is no better way to unwind after a long day at work than coming home and taking a hot shower then putting on a pretty dress or skirt.
I totally agree. I spend my day operating on peoples' faces in a sterile environment. I wear gowns all day ( the sterile clinic variety) & It's lovely to get out of trousers at home and roll up a really nice pair of smooth tights, then slip into a really comfy short skirt and luxuriate in the feel and sight of those smooth legs emerging from under that pretty skirt.....Then I pop on a nice pair of femme shoes!

I worked on cars for a living , came home smelling like grease and oil , take a bath or 2 to get rid of the smell . I would use the most feminine of body washes and lotions and then just dress in drag and sit and watch tv , I would take another bath to get rid of most the smell of the feminine smelling perfumes and lotions and go back and start the day all over again . Made me look foreward to the weekends and holidays . I would and still do come home from work on some days and when the lawn needs cutting or some so called manly choir needs to be done i would try to do it early in the week on a weekday after work so i have weekends to kick back and be fem . However im in Automotive retail parts sales and dont have to worry to much about the grease but still there are occasions i get it on me .
The next and hardest thing is I hunt Deer and Hogs and i fish which makes things a little more interesting as I cant smell all girly when hunting or i will spook what im hunting with the fem smell and perfumes and yes i do process my own meat as well . The best thing about smelling fem is the fishing part though . LOL
But keep this in mind I dont see anything a man can do that a woman cant and vise versa workwise that is .

Truck driver had to be the best , I figure if you do night runs you can dress however you wanted to while driving even in the daytime just change back before you get to your destination . Since the economy went to pot I figure there are some closed truck stops as there was a TA travelcenter 30 miles from here and the whole thing shut completely down , this would give you number 1 not to mention all the rest stops on the interstates.

I also work in the automotive industry, I don't subscribe to giving jobs a "gender" but in my very long service I have not come across many women that do my job, in point of fact I know of only two, that is not to say there are not others, but clearly not many. I share the feeling that after getting home from an oily, dirty and dusty job its great to get into something more comfortable, as for hobbies, well I like driving fast cars, riding faster super bikes and mountain biking.

I'm a mechanical engineer; have been for 38 years. I do design work, machinery installations, etc. I am a MAJOR motorsports fan. I've seen a lot of the greats and legends drive over the last 40 years on road courses, big ovals, little ovals, pavement and dirt. I've driven race cars (though not in competition) and helped a late friend maintain his race car. On the other hand, as I write this, I'm wearing a thong, pantie girdle, bra and forms under my overalls. We are what we are. The trick is to allow ourselves to be...

I’m a federal agent (don’t want to say publicly which agency, but if you PM me I’ll tell you). Also, I enjoy collecting and shooting guns, mountaineering, running in adventure races, lifting weights, and brewing my own beer among other “guy” things. I have been crossdressing longer than I have been working at my job or enjoying these hobbies, and I’ll probably be crossdressing long after I’m retired and long after I’m too old to enjoy these hobbies. I don’t think that it’s “strange” and I don’t feel like it’s a struggle for me to deal with these “total opposites”. As a small child I loved guns and I loved dressing like a girl. Decades later I love guns and I love dressing like a girl. It’s just the way that I am.
I can totally understand how some people may think that is “strange”. But it’s been a part of me for so long that it doesn’t seem out of the ordinary to me at all. Growing up as a small child, when my parents would find girl’s clothing in my room, they did their best to make me understand that it was wrong. I don’t hold anything against them for that. But I do remember how confused they would get over it. “He’s such a normal boy. I don’t understand.” :D

I am retired from a "manly job" in the building trades. I spent almost half a century working as a mechanic's helper, manitenance mechanic, carpenter, structural maintenance man, equipment operator and handyman. I spent several years working in power plants in my state and, although the work was usually hot and dirty, I liked all the building and fixing because the end result was always high quality.
When I wasn't working my interest reverted to my favorite pastime, crossressing. I had to hide it for many years from my wife and family, and if my co workers had known about it, they would have given me a lot of heat. I always enjoyed working in "manly" jobs but also expressing my feminine side when not at work. So you're not alone in doing the work you enjoy and also enjoying dressing.
