View Full Version : If one lives long enough

I imagine if one lives long enough there is nothing new just repeats. That was pretty much the way things have been until today. I stopped at a thrift store while traveling home from work to shop for something suitably stunning to bring along in anticipation of my upcoming makeover/transformation session. It was a successful mission in that I bought a very lovely long sleeve silver/gray evening gown and an off white trimmed with gold cocktail dress with a matching long sleeve jacket. I scored a pair of black five inch stilletos too. It was really great in that all of the items had the original store/manufacturer size tags in place.

What I was not prepared for was getting into a bit of a discussion with a fellow shopper over who spotted a dress first and who would lay claim to it. It was a really gorgeous gown and quite frankly I didn't blame her for claiming it. It seems we shared a love of sequin. Would one call it gentlemanly or lady like to step back, be polite about it, and then continue to shop for something else just as nice or nicer? In all of the years I've been combing through thrifts such an event never happened. I gave in and then stepped away.

By the way she complimented me regarding my choice of shoes and the cocktail dress as I was carying them when we both spied the gown.

Am I alone or has this happened to others here?

Good for you. At least she probably won't have bad thoughts about CDs now.

I feel it does not matter whom spotted if first, but whom had it in their hands first.

It sounds to me like you did the right and noble thing, regardless of the gender(s) of either party. "Do unto others," and all that. There will always be another day, another shop, another dress for you to make your own, but you only had this one opportunity to make a positive first impression for yourself and your sisters.
