Are there any sort of fake nails that come off easily and dont require a major soak in chemicals, and a lot of emery board, to remove all traces of them?

Boots the chemist do a good range of stick on false nails, they are the ones i use and unless getting overb passionate don't ping off to easy.

Kiss 1 Step pre-glued nails (http://www.kissusa.com/OES.html) are what you want Suzi :) They work very well and can be found in drug stores and chemists everywhere...

Suzy - if you go to Boots, look for these type of nails (Kiss 1 Step) - they will go on easy and come off easy, with no superglue.

I went to the dollar store and got a pack of 120 white acrylic nails (in different sizes) they are great---You have to trim and file them a bit and use your own polish on them but they fit better--and you get a lot more spares than the pre polished ones in the small packs.

I stick them on with superglue. The same stuff as nail glue at the fraction of the price (and potential for embarrasment)---Use the liquid rather than the gel---it removes easier and more compeletely.---I've not tried pre glued nails--I wouldnt think they would stay on as well.

To get them off---pry from the SIDE of the real nail (not the top)---7 to 8 out of 10 will pop right off. pouring a bit of nail polish remover along the sides of the problem nails will loosen them in a few seconds (Pry)---repeat if necessary.

When done, rubbing with Fingernail polish remover will then take off the remainder of the superglue left on your real nails.--- It works for ME N E way.-----Use a bit of common sense though--- Dont pry to the point of PAINFULNESS, you could damage your real nail and the bed.---if worse comes to worse SOAK your fingertips in polish remover--It will make a hard to clean mess, but that will work as a last resort.

Kiss 1 Step are the way to go. I've found that if you wear them just for an evening, you often can carefully pry them off and get another use out of them (although the second time around you do need to be careful not to knock them off).

FYI, they come in different styles, which can be different lengths and varying colors. Here's the two that I've tried:

Girly (#PGF 04) – Very short length, only slightly longer than I can grow my nails naturally, about 1/8-inch beyond the quick. French manicure style and the “natural” portion seems a bit pinker than the Sweetie style.

Sweetie (#PGF 05)– About 1/4-inch projection. French manicure style. A nice length, feels like you’re really got nails without being so long that it’s hard to use your fingers.

Incidentally, if you want to paint them, it's lot easier to do before putting them on. Get a piece of round dowel and lightly put the nails on it. Just enough to have them stay put, but not so hard that the glue sticks and peels off when you remove them from the wood.

the nails dana j recommend from boots are the same brand i was saying about before.

don't waste money on false breasts until you've tried the water balloon and water absurbant crystal method, i did today and they look very realistic.
