Since yesterday was National Coming Out Day, and since I'm still riding a cloud of adrenaline and euphoria from going out dressed a couple times, I came out as bi and a crossdresser to a few close friends of mine yesterday. One was a girl I've known for 20 years, who I went to high-school with, who was my lover for a scant time, and who was at the top of the list of people I wanted to know. The others were two couples, mutual friends of both my wife and I, who I also wanted to know. Since people knowing about Molly affects my wife, I asked before I sent the emails and she was cool with it as long as they didn't out me to anyone else.

So off went the emails, with links to pictures of me in the green top that I posted here last week. The responses were touching, hilarious, heartfelt, and totally supportive. Lots of compliments about my taste in wigs and shoes, my look in general, and requests to go out with Molly sometime :). I expected positive responses, but the overwhelming cheer in them choked me up.

So, did anyone else take the opportunity yesterday to tell friends and loved ones about the "other you"?

Congratulations!! That's too awesome for you!! Obviously I missed the memo because I had no clue. And since my wife has forbidden me from outting myself. Coming out days came and went... just another busy Monday.. But the Pengins did win!! :).

Congratulations! Good for you! I'm curious, how did you get assurance your friends wouldn't out you to anyone else? I'm just asking because there is a couple my wife and I are are friends with and we think they'd be very accepting and respectful. We will tell them about Amanda very soon. But I feel that telling them will carry along with it the potential that *everyone* will know. Maybe I'm cynical? Anyhow, way to go, Molly.

@Amanda: I don't know, I guess I just trust them to not out me. Also, they don't live in the area so there's that. They're still part of our friends network, so there's still the possibility, however small, of an accidental outing. I guess I just trust them more than I worry about it.

@Karen: Lawl, I see what you did there.

@Gerri: NCOD has been around for 22 years now, and is world wide. You can read more about it here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Coming_Out_Day):

Actually I told my Girlfriend of 30 years that I want to dress more than just panties. She seemed ok but I'm waiting to see if she freaks out after thinking about it for awhile. I shaved my legs on Friday and I had to tell her yesterday. She didn't notice?

Congrats!...best of luck.
I was listening to WNYC (the radio station that carries NPR)while driving last night, and this was the topic. One guest was a counselor for the LGBT community (& also gay himself) commented on the fact that coming out is liberating for some, but dangerous for others. It's a tough risk, that either there's benefits, or consequences.
Some of the callers on the show mentioned losing their jobs as a result of doing so.
Many have outed themselves to a few select, but not everyone ( like moi as a crossdresser). A few of my gay friends on my other facebook page seemed to have no problem REMINDING everyone that they are gay.

I never can wait. Just ask my wife. I give her presents early....anyway I came out to a GG friend last week (already posted the details) after thinking "no I don't want to wait!". Good for you Molly and thanks for sharing this. I'm very happy for ya!

I have told all my friends and family along time ago, now I am free to bring out the woman in me.

First I've heard of that day and for some its a great day. But for others, it can have real consequences, I've been outed and especially at work I can tell the difference from coworkers attitudes and there's not much I can do just hang in there.
