View Full Version : Late Start, is WalMart the only option?

We have talked before about having to wait to dress until all the obligations of the day have been met. And we have also mentioned how crossdressers somehow end up doing an appearance at Walmart and wondered why.
Halloween was quiet here in Salt Lake as it rained hard about the time the kids would be going door to door. So by the time I knew there would be no trick or treats at my door I took my gypsy outfit off and changed into something nicer, tan slacks and a sweater and headed out the door. I didn't want to waste a perfectly good job of makeup and spritz of perfume.
It turns out that all the stores I wanted to hit were either about to close or had already shut their doors. The clubs were too far away, and I wasn't feeling "clubby" anyway. The only place open was Walmart.
I did end up getting a long sweater, almost to my knees and a nice pleated top as well as a few needed groceries. Everyone either ignored me or was very nice and I answered the question on why we end up at the discount big box stores. It was a "head-slap moment", the only place open by the time I was out and about was Wally World. Maybe I'd better plan to get a little earlier start next time this opportunity presents itself.
So where do you go when you find yourself in this situation?

You still have the 24 hour grocery stores, convenience stores. Late night movies but if you want to walk around for awhile there is nothing like the 3 football field size walmarts.

Walmart is a good last choice. Especially late at night. But I love hitting a local casino.. They are open 24/7 and will take my money no mater how I dress!

Back in 1993 or so, Walmart was my first official outing followed by a visit to the local Not-Denny's diner. The late open hours and the relative anonymity has something to do with it. At Walmart, most transpeople are probably among the least strange anyway. Seriously, check out http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/.
I do recall that some dude followed us around at Walmart, but my friend loudly accosted him. He made like a shepherd and got the flock out of there. At the Not-Denny's, it was both amusing and annoying that the entire workstaff in the joint found a reason to visit our table. That said, the service was good and everyone was very polite.
That's only the first of many, many Walmart stories. :)

Once you make your trip to WalMart, you can log onto poepleofwalmart.com and see if someone saw you, took your pic and posted it there. No joke, just visit the site. Not exactly the crowd I would want to be associated with.

I've actually done exactly that! So far so good. I don't know what I'd do if I saw myself on there!
Unfortunately, I think the cds on there are what most people think of when they hear the term crossdresser.
I suspect these are some of the ones who say, "I don't care what other people think." I wonder how many of them thought they passed?

Well, The Holidays are coming up in less than two months, (Ugh...why does time pass so quickly!) and many Stores will be offering extended hours. Perhaps not 24/7 but, maybe until 10-11PM or even 12 AM. So even if you start late, you might get some more choices for The Foreseeable Future.
I don't know when they start The Extended Hours, probably after Turkey Day, but this year they seem to be pushing everything forward to get you out to buy. Maybe that will happen this year? Anybody heard anything yet?

We do. It's called Wendover, Nevada! :heehee:
It reminds me of a T-Shirt I saw when I first moved here. It said Utah's fun spots and had a map of Utah and the neighboring states. All of the highlighted spots were just over the border in each direction. And no, I don't believe that as there is plenty to do here. But good for a chuckle anyway.

Like Sue says, we have all the normal options for entertainment, just over the border. There is a great sign in the store just across the border in Idaho where they sell PowerBall tickets, it reads "Welcome to Franklin Idaho, home of the Utah Lottery!"
And people wonder why I go to Las Vegas so often.

I wonder what would happen if Wal-Mart wasn’t around? At least you can look at the girl stuff and dream about future adventures, or think about that box of cookies you saw when you walked in, or look at the light bulbs (and get a bright idea!). I go to the local Wal-Marts often, but I’ve never made a femme appearance there. Either it’s too rural out here, or I’m not emboldened enough to try it, or I go at the wrong times. I do go to the museum in Wichita en femme, so there’s something about culture that stirs the girl in me. Alas, the only culture on display at Wal-Mart may be found in the yogurt section...
