I've been feeling increasingly isolated where i live, i only have regular direct contact with other trans-people through this forum. There is no support group where i live and whilst i realise this must be a common feeling for all of us, i can't help feeling there must be somewhere i could move to which would be better for me.
Can any of you offer me advice as i am feeling quite desperate at the moment......it would be much appreciated.

The only one I know of is the Boston Belles based in (you guessed it) Boston. It's a large-scale support group that meets once a month. If you're looking for more trans-friendly places rather than support-groups/friends I know a number of the larger cities in the midlands and yorkshire can be more accommodating (such as Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Birmingham and Nottingham to name a few).

Hi Louise

I just googled transgender support in the UK and come up with lots of results - so I have no doubts that there has to be support for you. My advice
is start writing to some of these support groups and networks and ask if they know what services and support networks are in your local area.

Hugs Melody Xx

Thanks Kokoro, Melody,:) - i live on an island in the SW UK so would have to travel by sea or air to get to the mainland, which is why i think it would be best to move. I just wondered if anyone on the forum had had personal experience of more accommodating areas, be it in the uk, us or canada etc.

Loiuse,

There are lots of support groups throughout the UK - Kokoro mentioned Boston Belles but I believe they are folding soon through lack of numbers. Here in the East Midlands we have groups in Nottingham, Leicester and Derby. I go to Derby Reflections, although I don't "need" a support group any more (Im f/t pre-op) I still go because I've made some good friends there (both TS and CD).

In South west UK I believe there is a thriving scene in Bristol.

Hey Deborah, Thanks for that, i will possibly check out bristol when i'm next over - i'm on the mainland middle of jan for a few days.

Actually, today i feel a lot stronger, it was a difficult weekend with family and things. Sometimes it all gets a bit much and i feel more than ever that i want to just get away. I may also be up north shortly after that so will do a bit of googling (thanks Melody) and see what i can see!

There is a support group in Brighton (the Clare Project) that has people from all over the south of England coming to their drop-ins, the town is very broad minded but there isn't much of a TG night-life
