This happened at the SCC last year. The speaker asked every veteran, or active service man, to stand up. EVERY genetic male CD/TG at our table stood up! About 12 of us!
Please remember our boys and/or girls in the services today! And, the vets who guarded our freedoms! Many who gave their ALL!
If you're a vet, and wish to plug your duty or station, PLEASE DO!
I served during Viet Nam. Altho, NOT overseas.

I did a year in Iraq with the 21st Combat Support Hospital. I was the laboratory NCOIC.
I worked very hard to save the lives of our soldiers and equally as hard to save the lives of the Iraqi soldiers.

alas i got my leg crushed when i was young (it was 9 months before the Dr's said i could keep it) so i was not able to serve.
so all i can do or say is a very big THANK YOU to all who put time in either by choice or not. you all deserve our total gratitude for what you did and gave.
it does not mater if you were the front-line punk at the worst (****) place on this planet, or had a cushy job in a back water supply depot, or a nice easy job in your home town sighing up recruits.
we free Americans owe you a debt that can never be repaid.

Thank you all for serving...
I considered it several times but never did.
Dad wanted me to go into the Navy out of High School (He was Army and I guess his perception is that the Navy got better food & showers). Recruiters were pushing nuke school. But the test was so easy (basic ASMD math) it left me thinking, do I want to be responsible for a NUCLEAR REACTOR with just any idjit that can pass this test? It really did not leave me with a lot of confidence. I wanted to fly but they were talking 6 year commitment in return for a flying assignment... do you know what the next 6 years is to a 17 YO? E-friggin-ternity!
I went to school instead and paid my own way.
Graduating a few years later and starting to work in the real world, I realized I had the time and money available to achieve the flying dream and earned a pilot certificate. So there I was, 25-ish with a BS degree and a PPASEL certificate. I wondered if there is anything I can do with the USAF. I spent a lot of time considering the question but never took action. Then I turned 27 and the window closed. That is my road not taken.
I never signed on the dotted line, but I respect and thank those of you that did. Thank you all for serving. This household flys the Stars and Stripes today for you.

I just wrote this as part of a post a short while ago: "I abo****ely love this forum - can't take my eyes off of it. I've learned so many things on the way here." OMG I can't believe my eyes. What a fantastic group, and to think I'm a part of both: 20-years USAF (ret.) Command Pilot (Air Medal, et al.) while stationed at too many places all over the world (maybe more on that later?) that it would create a "super drunk" while throwing "camel dung" around the drinking hall (as "BS" was unheard of in those days), as wlll as, now here in my (our) fantasy land. Proud to have served with all of you girls in all ways, and always. "You know truthfully, all this nostalgia stuff has actually brought tears to my eyes..." What's the emoticon for "Salute?" Paternal grandfather: Coldstream Guards served in Flanders and northern France from 1914 - 1918 - wounded three times.
Maternal grandfather: 8th Army North Africa WWII. Posted MIA until discovered in a remote field hospital 6 weeks later.
Father: Transport Corps but missed Malaya conflict when transferred to Pay Corps.
Myself: Selected as a naval flier but flunked the medical - colour blindness does not mix with landing copters on a deck. Otherwise I would probably have served in the Falklands conflict. As it was I met my lovely wife whilst doing charity work in support of our brave servicemen.

Oriskany! I've heard that name before. Were you on her when she sunk?
I left the Oriskany in May of 1955. After several years in the Mothball fleet, the carrier was sunk to become a reef off the coast of Pensacola, Florida in 2007. From what I have learned, she is the only ship ever sunk like that which is sitting on the bottom totally upright!! Some of my old shipmates have dived on her!

22 years in all- enlisted (3) and commissioned the rest of the time. Oh- just speaking for myself but please don't thank me- I should thank you (the taxpayer) for providing me an opportunity to have a great career. I joined the military because (as a teenager) I never, ever met retired military who regretted their career choice; hard to imagine there are many jobs with that sort of endorsement. I'm now one of those examples. The last few years were a bit disappointing as the profile of the average military member seemed to become more intolerant- perhaps it was just a reflection of greater society. For the majority of the time it was great- even the deployments.

I have to add to my other posts on this thread that I seem to be the oldest Veteran CD on here. No one else seems to have been in during the Korean war! And yes, it was a war, NOT a Police Action as some would have you believe! Even in the Navy we did get our ships shot at!!
Not quite!
This thread made me want to crow a little bit among you youngsters because my generation is passing out of this world at about 2000 a day!
I flew B-17s with 8th Air Force in England in WWII and received a combat disablity pension for it though I kept flying in Reserve and New York Air National Guard with 2-engine bombers (B-26) for another 15 years. Been a CD for last 80 years with a few intervals in between like the military and first year at wharton among others.

I just got out of active duty after 15 years (3 tours Iraq, 6 times middle east) many awards and lots of bullets shot and shot at me.. I loved the military and still serve in guard.. so we are out there!
Salute to each of you that have also served.. HOAH!!!!

Fort Rucker is the home of Army Avaition, and Ozark was named one of the top 25 places to retire. Most rent is around less than $300 and most three bed room bath and a half go for less than $100,000.
Even less if you get outside of the city limits of Ozark

Wow thank you all for your service and I had no idea. Just when you think you are alone, you find out in you're in excellent company. I served in the USAF from 73 to 97, Phantom II, F-4, units all over. Active duty for them all from Viet Nam to Desert Storm, lost track because there was always something, even when it didn't make the news, I was there. My philosophy during those years was pack a wallet full of clothes and a suit case full of money. Love you all and your commitment to freedom.

I dont think people are compairing whos got more medals Jeannie I think people are just proud of there accomplishments.. theres no harm in listing what you have earned or where you have been. Im just glad to have served my country and to do so atm still. It shows that even though we do the hardest job on the planet.. and yes it is for those that have never worn the uniform and deployed over the years away from our loved ones.. missing countless birthdays, births and such we should all be proud of what we have done or continue to do.
Ill tell ya one thing we may wear heels and like to look pretty but we could kick some serious butt if asked to do it again.

Well I really must be careful with my report as at present I'm being scoped by the VA for a few agent orange diseases. But if any one cares to quiz me drop me a line. I served 24 in the services.1954 to 1977.5 GC metals, way more than 1 tour in nam.korea expedition medal. More time in nam than needed for sailor or marine to qualify for agent orange benifits. I have been dressing quite often again, make-up a scosh lacking but presentable. Vivian fair

I believe that some of the Highlander units did in WWI--Black Watch and the Cold Cream (er, Cold Stream )Guards did. For the Bosch, It must have really been "up front-and in his face"!!
I also second the notion that wearing a skirt doesn't mean that we can't kick some serious butt if we need too.

Hey Kat42,
The test for Navy Nuke power school just lets you try out to see if you've got what it takes to get in the door at the school. The school itself is tremendously difficult, the training takes a long time and graduates who serve and then leave the Navy are HIGHLY sought after in the civilian world.
Sounds like you had what it takes, just had a bad first impression. Both the Navy and you lost out on that one. Sad.

Army Airborne Ranger. 22 years.
I'm particularly interested in hearing more about this. I'm going in as an 11B with Option 40 in my contract (Airborne & RIP), and when I get my orders for Basic they'll have me leaving within sixty days of getting my bachelors degree on May 15th. I've accepted myself as a CDer, but I feel my desire to serve and to go to Afghanistan is an important part of me as well.
I see there's even a few people on here currently in still who are finding time to dress, and I've spoken with at least one crossdresser online who's a 19D in his third tour and out to his unit. I think I'd probably best err on the side of caution far as letting my unit find out about this when I go in, but it's good to learn more about the experiences of others.

Was wondering if I could get any advice as far as being a crossdresser about to enter the service as an 11B with Option 40. I'm getting my bachelors degree shortly before going in this summer, which means I'll go in as an E4 and I almost went all the way through ROTC but decided I'd rather be a Ranger than an officer in the reserve.

You had better be careful. My son-in-law went into the Army last year with the Ranger option. He did truck driving as his MOS then went to Airbourne school. That was no problem but a few days after he got to the Ranger training unit he failed the Ranger PT test. A few weeks later he was at Ft Bragg then a month after that he was in Afgahnistan as a truck driver.
So make sure you can pass that PT test!!
As far as dressing. It's a hard thing to do in living in the barracks. It would help if you connected with a nearby support group and could keep some clothes with one of the members and dressed at the meetings.
