in the beginning the gender specialist said that gender dysphoria was a serious mental illness. Now I'm worried. Is that true?

Uncontrolled it can be Very Serious, leading to shopping, lots of shopping. In fact, rather than spend that money on women's clothing so you can feel better about yourself, they would prefer you spend it on 60 counseling sessions at $250 each so you can feel good about yourself. Actually the diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria would be needed to get approval for the SRS, so it's good to call it a serious disorder to get the courts and insurance companies to go along with it.

I'm not a trained psychological professional, so what do I know?

Hi Michelle,

If you google gender identity disorder. You will find in the Wikipedia link. That it's NOT considered a mental illness. There's some good reading there, which I highly recommend.

I have a cynical take to the whole business -

Remember Nixon's Revenge - the 55 mph speed limit? We now know it was a sham since now there are fewer fatalities now than during the era of the 55 mph speed limit. Yet insurance companies and authorities were doing everything they could do to retain it - for obvious money-making purposes.

And now we have the ridiculous double-standard of what women can wear vs. the constricted notion of what men can wear. Let's see - since it is a "crime" against masculinity to wear feminine garments we have to do it in secret, along with coming up with female personas. Then the psychologists and psychiatrists can get their take in extensive counselling and in some cases convincing some of their patients to transition. And then there is the gold mine for surgeons to perform their artwork.

I think a lot, but not all of the difficulties mentioned above would disappear if only men were much more free to wear what they want. In this forum the Male to Female Crossdressing section is much much bigger in terms of threads and postings than the Transmasculine section.

It depends. The diagnisis has to be on a case by case basis.:)

There are two big guys in white uniforms carrying a big net on my porch. Should I be concerned?
