I hope you do not hate me for this.

I came out to my oldest son (32) and his fiancee yesterday. Before I could even finish my explanation he took my hand and told me that he knew for a long time. When I told them about how long I had carried this around with me, he started crying and told me he could not imagine how I had carried this in secret for such a long time.

We had a long conversation about my biography, the circumstances, the challenges ahead. He is a good man.

This morning his fiancee wrote me an email with the salutation "Kathryn".

I love my kids

Kathryn,

How could we hate you for sharing this with us?

Firstly, we rejoice for you that it has worked out so well and that you have such an understanding son with a marvellous fiancee.

Secondly, we are encouraged for ourselves when we read of successes by our sisters.

Kathryn,

You just made me smile and tear up a bit. I am so happy for you, such a strong family tie is a testiment about how you raised your kids.
