Listening to BBC Radio 2 and I just just heard an advert for the Chris Evans breakfast show, it was a re-run of a short piece with Chris Evans telling the male listeners to get a spare pair of tights from their mothers, girlfriends, daughters or sisters and to wear those tights under their trousers for the day. So there's your excuse if you ever get caught, just blame it on BBC's Chris Evans, he told you to wear 'em. :)

Wearing tights under my trousers is exactly what I am doing today to help ward off the bone chilling cold around here.

Ditto here in Boston. It's 26 degrees before the wind chill today. Been doing it for years and even taught my SO to do it too. She certainly was appreciative, but still doesn't like me being in fem.

My Father used to wear tights under his clothes when he worked outside,no problem ordinarily, well that was until the day he,and my Grandfather were involved in a Major Car Accident, and he ended up in hospital of course the hospital staff never said anything about it,Any embarrassment he had about wearing tights, was far outweighed by being Alive. The accident appeared on front Page of the Newspapers,But no mention of the tights LOL

As for the sub zero temperatures, and treacherous conditions in West of Scotland this week well I have been wearing ladies thermal long johns, hardly sexy but certainly effective:)

I don't listen to Radio 2, but tights under trousers is standard practice for me, esp now it's cold weather

I've worn long thermal underwear under my trowsers many a time. Never a pair of woman's tights though.

Didn't Joe Namath (football star) do an ad for panty hose?

Once you have tried tights or pantyhose under your trousers for warmth, you may never go back to bulky thermal underwear. Tights/pantyhose usually offer just enough extra warmth and don't get uncomfortable when you have them on indoors. What more reason do you need to be wearing them?

I used to live where it got really cold in the winter and I had to shovel snow. Those days are behind me now. It gets cold but not for long. That's not to say I haven't worn tights. I would love to have an excuse.

Trousers tend to stick to freshly shaved and moisterised legs. I love the way that my trousers slide over the tights.

Yes, he did, and he's been the subject of snickering about it every since.

Yup, Joe Namath did an ad for pantyhose. Rumor has it that at least some NFL players use support type pantyhose for just that - the extra support they offer to muscles against hits and sprains. Not to mention warmth.

I quite often use pantyhose as long underwear, especially if I ride a motorcycle in cool weather. As a matter of personal taste, I do not like thick socks, and pantyhose (or knee-highs) are about as thin as they get.

Many years ago I ran across an article in an Air Force magazine describing jungle and survival training in South Carolina in the swamps. The trainees noticed that the men got a lot of sand fleas, and the women didn't get very many. Difference turned out to be the women were wearing pantyhose. Didn't take long for the men to try them, and find out they worked. If you go afield during tick season, they help keep ticks out of your crotch, too. Thus, between winter warmth and summer creepy-crawlies, you can have a legitimate excuse to wear them year-round.

Brilliant, just have to remember to put on trousers before I go outside.

It's actually pretty common in demanding cold weather jobs, like shipping, offshore, etc.

I feel naked if I don't have my pantyhose on. I wear them year round, of course over my panties.

Who needs an excuse. I virtually always wear tights or stockings under my trousers. I used to live in the North of Scotland where it can get very cold every winter and I found that wearing stockings and a suspender belt could be justified to my less than happy wife on the grounds that it was easier if I needed to pee as I didn't have to pull everything down. This is particularly justifiable when wearing a knee length parka as that keeps the mid section warm so its only the wind chill against the legs you have to bother about.

I've been wearing tights every day for the last couple of weeks but when I went to my doctor yesterday with a pain in my side I was wearing stockings. Unexpectedly he decided he wanted to examine my abdomen and asked me to remove my trousers and lie on the couch. I did so and bless him he didn't bat an eyelid, just pulled my panties down a bit to press my lower abdomen. He then asked me to turn over so he could do an "internal examination". I'm sure I was bright red by now and I'm afraid to say I was getting a bit aroused but thankfully not obviously.

When he finished and I was getting dressed he said he would send me to the hospital to see a specialist and said, "you might want to consider what to wear when you see Dr XXXX as he is a bit of a bible-basher and probably will give you a hard time if you go like that."

Bless him.

It was always standard practise in the building trade as well, and no one was ever embarassed about admitting it, handy that :heehee:

Black pantyhose and thigh hign stay-ups are OK too in "boy mode". I've found that support hose are warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Not sure why...

Good thread. I used to wear opaque black tights instead of over-the-calf socks under my suits in the winter in Chicago, which made walking to work a lot more comfortable. Of course this made trips to the men's room more challenging: I understand some company came out with a product with a fly called Mannyhose to solve this problem but they didn't sell...

When I ride my motorcycles this time of year standard equipment is a pair of panty hose and knee highs. I like warm feet. I suppose I could get an electric vest, socks, etc but I don't like attaching myself to the bike. Plus the panty hose feel better under my jeans or my full leather riding suit.

Back in the 80's a Navy Seal I knew said they wore pantyhose when they had to go into the swamps and jungles of S. America. They didn't want little swamp and river critters going where they didn't belong. He said they would get their wives to buy the largest sizes for them, until the military came out with their own version, probably camo.

There is a company called Comfilon (www.comfilon.com) which sells pantyhose for men. This isn't a crossdressing site. They have a lot of customers who openly wear pantyhose and tights with shorts and pants.

I remember years ago a famous American bicyclist (John Howard) saying that pantyhose worked great to keep the leg muscles warm and compact during cold weather training rides.

I remember stories from hunters who used to wear silk hose for it wicking properties. When I used to work a outdoors sporting good shop we sold a ton of silk long underwear.
I wear dance or footless tights under my pants while riding my bike or showing houses to clients in cold months.

Interesting but for most of us it is the fact that the clothes are made for females that is the main attraction, though some of the items here have possibilities.

Actually I've run into this from time to time. Working outside all year round, some guys will wear pantyhose, they're not as hot as long johns and less bulky. I've seen guys wear tights as well.

Ditto that. What was more interesting for me was the number of texts and emails he received from wives & GF's (on top of those blokes who fessed up) 'outing' their men on radio and saying that they had no problem with it.

I don't need any excuses to wear pantyhose/tights under my pants, I have been doing it for years. If GG's can do it why can't I????

When I was working as a locomotive engineer I would wear tights to keep my legs warm. I hated long johns as they were too bulky.

Been wearing tights/pantyhose under trousers for over thirty years now. The postman stopped for a chat a few days back and was saying how cold it was so I said 'do what I do and get some pairs of tights'. 'Yuck,no thanks'! was his response.
As to the problem of peeing suspender tights are another good way around that.
Does anyone have a copy of the programme or a link to download it from anywhere?

I have been wearing thick wooly tights in the recent cold spell, the thickness of my tights depends on the weather but since shaving I have had to wear them against the cold. When the weather gets warmer I will switch to stockings.

I'm in Buenos Aires. I'll be the only male wearing pantyhose and listening to the BBC.

(the funny thing is that I do listen to the BBC but only the daily world news)
