I got back from the endo a while ago, but I couldnt even post this right away. The shock had just started to hit me. In my previous thread, I talked about how I had gone to the ER because of swelling in my leg. It turned out it wasnt the first thing that comes to mind with HRT, a blood clot. But, even though this is probably a long term problem Ive had for years, she said it still posed a danger, since no one knows what the cause of this is. She said I could get a second opinion, but she is reputed to be the best. Fact of the matter is, I know she's right. I told her that I am who I am, but I'm not going to risk messing around with this. I'll overcome this like all the other setbacks in my life. I'm not going to screw around with taking hormones anyway- experimenting with drugs messed me up for a long time as it was. I know I'll eventually deal with this and move forward, but right now, I'm just in shock. I dont even feel anything emotionally yet. I guess that'll come later.

Tanya, If I'm reading this correctly you are not continuing with HRT due to this condition? You don't need to completely quit everything. As I indicated earlier I have a history of DVTs and arterial vasculitis in my legs and I'm on HRT, just not taking estrogen. My GYN has me on Spironolactone and a high dose of Prometrium (progesterone) but no estrogen. It may be worth talking to your doctor about trying something like that.

i"m so sorry sis. how about a big hug, try talking to your endo about Spironolactone and a high dose of Prometrium (progesterone) that may work for you.

progesterone is for uterine health i know we don't have one but that could work

Don't give up there are options out there

No progesterone doesn't contribute to swelling. If it did my vascular surgeon would have me off of it immediately. My GYN started me at a low dose and periodically increased it. After 1 year I'm at the maximum dosage and have had no trouble with it. I can't wait for my next appointment to see what my progesterone level is at now. My last appt (before she doubled it to the max dosage) it was just under 1st trimester pregnancy

I talked about how I had gone to the ER because of swelling in my leg.
Can you describe this swelling more accurately? Does it extend down to your ankle & foot and is it present only in the one leg?

If it is just in the one leg, have you ever had a previous injury to this leg?

How would you describe your body type, Thin, Athletic, Average or Overweight?

Sorry to hear that you are having these issues, hopefully it is nothing serious or related
to hormones. I suspect that if you had the problem before hormones then it is unrelated.

I am overweight, and this problem was before the hormones. It affects my left leg only, and only below the knee. It is different every time. I have had numerous incidents of this type since the first time ten years ago. I, and everybody consider it as something I picked up in the Phillipines 10 years ago, and stays dormant for long periods of time. The problem is, what triggered it this time? Even without blood clots, there may be something else that is happening. I will explore everyone's ideas with my therapist after I get this swelling down.

Does it extend down to your ankle & foot? Also have you any other known issues possibly with your heart, pancreas or spleen?

Recently when I was in hospital with my gall bladder problem, my right lower leg, ankle & foot swelled right up and nothing at all happened to my left leg. The gall bladder is also located on the right side of the body, so this swelling was Edema (http://www.medicinenet.com/edema/article.htm) - where fluid retention was caused my gall bladder. After I got better the swelling in my right leg disappeared completely. One way to know if it is Edema is when you press on it, does a slight indentation remain?

Ugh.

I think this sort of thing is one of the big worries we all have. Which doesn't make it any better when it happens to you, but you should know that we can all relate. I am sure none of us knows exactly how you feel, but you are not alone.

Thank you, Hope. Melody, it seems I have had blood work for everything already, but its been a while. Maybe its time to do it again.

:iagree: I am sorry for your medical emergency and news. That is something we all need to keep a close watch on.

But most importantly now is that you keep positive outlook and do what needs to be done to have this work out the best for you.

I agree with Traci's comment about staying positive & not worrying too much, however do what needs to be done,
it could be related to your organs and hopefully blood test will shed more light on what could be the possible cause.

Good luck & keep us posted :hugs:

I am off to work here shortly (Fri. night), and cant post until Monday. I have a doctor's appointment scheduled for 11:45 Monday morning. This is my former primary care physician who I saw for six years, before he moved out of town. Turns out he's back. He knows me better than anyone, so I have some hope. Ill post again after I see him.

Well, I was at my doctor's, and he is concerned. He gave me a very strong diuretic, had some blood tests done, and told me to come back Friday. This is getting depressing, although I would rather not admit it to myself, but at least I have an appointment with my therapist on wednesday, and can talk it out.

You might want to talk to your doctor about Spironolactone. It is a potassium sparing diuretic.....and it has this wonderful side affect (but you don't need to mention that). :heehee:

Hang in there girl, it'll work out

Friends... pls read about Pinapple the fruit and its effect on blood clots and inflammation. I cant find the article but apparently it is amazingly affective. Can you all do research and see how it can help you. It has some enzyme called Bromo ..something... Pls read more about it and see if it can help you.
