I started going out dressed up about 3-4 months after I started dressing and that was almost 4 years ago. I went out with two ladies that I met on this site. I was nervous, of course, but since I picked a place in the city (I live in the far suburbs) I was not concerned about running into anyone I knew. I had a great time and was hooked on going out whenever I could. Yes, the more I go out the better I get at everything, dressing, makeup, walking, sitting and interfacing with other people. As they say, practice makes perfect, and that is true for me.

Yes, practice makes a difference. I also look at dressing as an art. You need to get help with makeup and practice that art a lot. I believe the makeup book by Michel Anton (close). He tells you how to apply makeup and what it does for you. Get a book, ask GG's, go to a makeup counter. After you know how to work with makeup, set up outfits and look your best, then you will be comfortable going out.

Practice does help; but going out is a big motivator.
It really makes you want to hone your skills since you have an audience :-)

I would say it took over 30 years for me to go out
But only a few months from when I decided it was time to deal with my CDing and realized it wouldnt go away.

With everythimg, take small steps. Maybe just go outside for a minute. then drive around the block, then go to a gay/tg friendly restaurent. The more you go out, the easier it becomes and the more confident you get. As was mentioned before, try to go out with a tg support person.
