OMG! I am not going to read ANY of your posts until you return because you will be a complete "b*%^! for the next two weeks without your hormones!!!!!

Seriously Frances, I wish that these next 18 days pass quickly for you and that you have a very positive rewarding operation with minimal hearing time and LOTS of good medicines to keep you smiling all during recovery!

Hugs,

Hang in there Francis, Best of everything to you.

The real adjustment is the post-op time as your body tries to compensate for testosterone loss caused by the removal of the gonads AND dealing with the drop in Estrogen dosage...it was a real yo-yo time for me...drop, spike, drop, spike, drop, drop, drop...6 months post and still leveling off... O_o

Grats and the time in Dr. Bresserd's clinic will be a memory for you in no time...

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble off of your HRT. Some do, some don't. Go outside and find a stick to bite down on for the next 18 days. It will be over before you know it.

We are all very happy for you. If headach meds aren't working for you try a cold compress on the back of your neck, its about 95% effective for curing headaches.

No wonder you've got jangled nerves, Frances. But in your current state don't do anything that will get you jail time. I've seen those women in prison movies.

Meanwhile, you have my very best wishes for a speedy recovery, and peace at last.

Just be careful how much you spread it over the web. Don't be like going on Facebook and talking about it.
I know at least one person here gave out too much info and some guy she tried to date was like, "Hey guess what I found out about you?"

Nice you are getting it but be careful with TMI.

Thank you all for the wishes and positive thoughts. Thank you also for the empathy from the women who when through the endocrinological withdrawal before me.

Note: My name on this site is Frances, with an "e" like Frances Farmer. My male name was the French equivalent of Francis, so seeing it makes me cringe a little. My real name is the one on my Facebook page (link in my signature). I do not use it here because a guy I was dating googled me and read all of my posts.

I had to go off hormones for health reasons a while back, and even with that, that word that rhymes with "ditch" didnt begin to cover the stress I first went through (hint: if you have a cat, mine was awful jumpyaround then, and even after I pretty well got over it- you might consider loaning her out). I am happy for you for the reason that this is happening, and hope it becomes less stressful. I am really happy for the surgery for you, and hope you recover quickly.

Back at home! I will give a full report soon. It was a great experience overall, but certain things upset me a little bit. Nothing bad to say about the surgery though. The swelling is the most painful thing right now. I almost completely lost my breasts from not having hormones for an entire month. I am sad about that. Don't hesitate to ask specific questions if you have any.

Hi all,

I am still recovering at my girlfriend's place until next week. The surgery was done under epidural, which was not a problem at all. I was quite sedated. I was in and out of consciousness the whole way through. The most I could feel was being pushed back a lot. The first two days at the hospital were all about pain management and starting to move a little to avoid phlebitis. I walked from the clinic to the recovery house, instead of taking a wheel chair ride. It was a mistake and I passed out after trying to sit on the toilet. I banged up my knee in the process. I was in a double room for a while but was later moved to a single room. The double room had its own complete bathroom, but my roommate had an infectious disease, so it was better in the end.

The pain got worse with the swelling and my body rejecting the mold which was inserted during surgery. Since then, it has been getting better everyday. The staff was really nice, especially the auxiliary staff (kitchen, cleaning, etc.). I had some problems with the nurses. The rotation was very heavy and messages were not always transmitted clearly from one to the next. I asked to reduce the pain medication at one time, and when I asked to increase it again, the following nurses thought the decision had come from a doctor. One incident in particular, however, still makes me angry.

I came down for pain killers at 5 a.m. one morning, and the nurse was sleeping on the couch. She insisted that I had asked for meds at 2:30, which I had not. She showed me an entry on a log. It took a bit of arguing to convince her that I was not the person on the entry (it was not even my name!). Also, the departure was prompted somewhat, as they really wanted to clean my room and I wanted to use it for one more dilation after lunch.

Dr. Brassard was incredibly pleasant at all times, as was the new doctor on staff (Dr. Bélanger). The experience was very good overall, and the results are already satisfactory less than two weeks into the recovery. I don't bleed much and the pain is manageable at this point. I recommend Dr. Brassard highly to anyone wishing to undergo SRS. I have to go back for a follow-up appointment in a month.

Hi all,

My wife is a retired nurse and she was always complaining about the lack of qualified nurses. It seems that too many of them come in with the Florence Nightingale attitude, then find out that it is truly hard work!

Hang in there and all will be a distant memory at some time!

Love and prayers,

Jo

Hi all,
Recovery is a little slow. The soap used to clean everything was very irritating and increased my discomfort considerably. Dr. Brassard gave me a workaround. I still have not driven or walked any notable distance. I am not back at my apartment on my own yet either, and surgery was almost a month ago. Eryin, Jumpstart and Kathryn: I posted updates throughout the thread. If you have specific questions not covered, I will gladly answer them. Overall, I am doing well emotionally, but I am growing tired of having so little mobility and of the pain.

To all forumites: Please do not call me Francis. It is a male name. I guess I have to change my moniker on this forum. It is like if I had chosen Roberta as a name, and people called me Bob. My actual name is the one on Facebook (the link in my signature). I do not use it on forums, however, to preserve my anonymity (a former boyfriend googled me and read all of my posts). But being called Francis with an "i" hurts me. I will ask the Mods to change it to Anne or something that cannot be masculinized by accident.
