I finally did it. I crossed a item off my bucket list. I went to the mall and got a manicure. My SO helped me with make up and hair. The lady did her thing, and I got it done. For all the first timers, there is a code that will be followed. You pay after the service is done, but before color has been apllied. She said 12 dollars, and I sail HUH?. She said you pay before color is applied. I did not know this and felt stupid. I was addressed as maam. this caught me off gard, I didn;t think I could get one. Nails look great, too bad I have to wash it off tommarow. I then went to a local steak house and ordered food, to take home for my SO and I. I sat at the bar and had 4 drinks wille I waited for the food. Drove home and we had a good dinner. I am still dressed and no place to go, I guess I ahould go to bed. Good night ladies. Looking forward to your replys. Next on my bucket list is going to a public water park as Sarah. Planning the trip now. I think I can get my SO to to enjoy this with me. I also told her the next time we dress together, we would go to a club. I also want to dance with a man. I have asked my SO to marry me, and she said yes. She helps me dress, and escorts me when she can. I tell her that I have a better time when I am with her, but I feel pretty good on my own.

I have not experienced the pay before you get painted thing. In Atlanta I got some serious claws done and it was like 30 dollars. I went with a simple red and it turned out to be cheaper than my friends french nails. We flood the nail salon every Sept in Atlanta and they expect us.

It took me months to get the gels off. I loved them so much!

Congratulations on your new fiancee, Sarah! And congratulations too on your latest cross-off and your "Ma'm."

No need to berate yourself over not knowing what you described as "the code." Many women going for their first salon manicure are not likely to know either.

The "code" has always been true in every salon I've ever been in, and I've been having my nails done for over 15 years (admittedly, most often by the same manicurist). The reason is practical - not to smudge your wet nails.

Another bit of "code" is to take your keys out of your purse in advance of having your nails painted. Same reason.

And, of course, when you give your manicurist the money, you also include a tip.

Hugs,
Persephone.

SARAH .... good for you to "check one off"

I guess my salon is different, "L" waits until her customers are completely "done". I usually have the needed money folded near the top of my purse (tip included) so I can reach it easily. Same for auto keys. Should I forget to "preload" the money, I tell "L" to take what she needs out of my clutch in my purse.
I totaly trust her.

I always let her take what she needs plus tip and have keys ready! It sounds like you are living the good life and have a very special SO! An old song by Sonny James comes to mind! Called: "Take good care of her" Wish you the best!
