Hey. So, I'm thinking about going to an 80's Prom Party in a couple weeks.

For Halloween, I've went in the past as a Prom Queen, and worn this dress (the purple):

Could I get away with wearing it for 80's prom?

Would I need to add any accessories to make it work?

It'd be fun to dress up and wear it again...but if it doesn't work for the event, I'd rather not.

Optional accessories: great earrings, pearls, bracelets or bangles, rings, formal purse, acrylic nails, amazing shoes, and a little makeup for the cleavage...have a fun time.

The dress looks great..but is that what they mean when they say 80's party???? or maybe a 'Pretty in Pink" dress.. just be sure its what the theme is calling for.. that is a great dress..and I'm sure you would look lovely in it..just make sure it fits the theme..k?

Sorry..after i went back is when I noticed you titled it 80's prom...then yes, it fits.. thought you meant 80's theme..k? go for it girl.. it would be great..

OMG but I love that dress!

Only accessory you need is a smile sprinkled with confidence. Knock 'em dead. Lucky girl.

It's a lovely dress, dear, but it is NOT in an 80s style. Just look at any sort of Molly Ringwald movie as a point of reference. NO ONE wore a dress like that back then. They were all sort of bold and semi-tacky, with some having even shoulder pads. Maybe it's just me, but I tend to dress for the occasion, especially when it's spelled out for me like that. But, do what you like...

To echo Sophie, you could get a little closer to 80's authentic, but then again, I think that dress is going to set the stage just fine. Not to mention it's gorgeous! Find some big, dangly bracelts and earrings. Also, see if you can find a purple hair bow (big and tacky) or something to match. Think Punky Brewster! I think it's totally awesome! Wear it, have fun, and enjoy being a prom girl!

Curious, bentervine, where have you been for 4 years? Your join date is 2006? Never mentioned the prom queen thing here back around halloween. any picks of you from halloween? you can even blot out your face if necessary. Seems to me that the same accessories you used then would work? Ever think of being a troll for halloween? I mean for 2011?

Troll or not, BV! That's NOT an 80's prom dress!

However, if u look 1/2 as good as the pic u posted, that won't matter! Go, and have a ball! Errr--- PROM! Lol!

it's beautiful :) but for 80s you'd be better off in a denim skirt and leg warmers :)

I'd have to say nothing about that gown (and it is a beautiful dress I'd love a chance to wear) really says 80's.
OK, that's the bad news. The good news is that you have a great excuse to trawl vintage clothing shops to look for the right outfit. Think power dressing: big shoulder pads, big hair, Dynasty; or the way others have suggested in the style of Brat Pack movies like Pretty in Pink or early Madonna. For a nice modern take on 80's fashion check out the sort of thing Keeley Hawes wore in the three series of Ashes to Ashes from the BBC

agree with Debs...troll a classic TV channel or similar and check out the "party" gowns from Dynasty or Dallas. You'll find just what your looking for. Now if your gown up there had a padded shoulder'd chiffon-sleeved bolero coverup that went over it, it would work just fine...

Ok, I'm like, an 80's girl myslef, and like, Sophie, is totaly right, fer sure... I mean like, that gown may be totaly awsome today, but it just totaly gags me with a spoon for the 80's.
BTW, I still want a bubble dress, fer sure.. They're like totaly awsome.
