I went to get my hair done today at my usual beauty salon. I was the last appointment and the shop was empty. Lisa, the lady that does my hair asked my opinion on doing hair for transgender people. She said she had a few phone calls asking if it would be alright. She said she could really use the money but was afraid of what her other clients might think. I said Lisa, you have been doing hair for transgenders for about 9 years now and smiled at her. She gave me a strange look then her eyes lit up like someone flipped a switch inside. You? She said. I would have never guessed.

We talked for quite a while and I told her all about myself. She just kept eyeing me. I just can’t believe it she kept saying. See, we are not the perverts hiding in the bushes you thought we were. We are just girls that need to have our hair done. So it looks like the girls around here are going to have a new place to get their hair done.

I'm glad to hear that the ice is melting else were too. The ice is starting to melt around Jacksonville also. The biggest problem we have here is religious bigotry (nothing against Christians and churches) and hot spots of old school "red necks", but aside from that people are starting to become more and more accepting and understanding here.

There was one beauty salon here in Cairns that use to do a fair bit of work for trans-girls here, including waxing
all at a very good rate, however after this nutter who was also a regular client lost the plot & decided to plough
her car into the front of a local bar (http://www.cairns.com.au/article/2010/07/09/117341_print-version.html) this beauty salon wants nothing more to do with us. Sadly we have also now
been tarred with the same brush. Girls in my local support group are now concerned this person's bad anti-social
behaviour is threatening our services, including the free services we have provided by our local gender clinic.

It is especially sad when you find such a business so willing to help
the transgendered girls, then one bad egg ruins it for everyone else. :(

What really pissed me off one day was when someone called me by
this person's name mistakenly identifying me as this very crazy girl.
