Out of it for a week or months, quite disappointed

Just a few weeks ago I had an incident with a pair of scissors. I accidentally stabbed myself in the hand cutting off a zip tie. I'm sure you all don't want to know my gore story, but it's lead me away from being who I am for up to a month more. My one hand is completely out of business. I can use my fingers somewhat (like typing right now), but I really can't do much with them as scar tissue is building up on the tendons. I also can't do much with my hand because it's glued shut now and I can't rip the glue.

Anyways, I can't do the things that make me who I am. I cant pull up jeans, I can barely put on shirts due to the wrap, I could never put on a bra by myself, I cant put on pantyhose. It's just all a big frustration. I've been wanting to go out in public for my first time other than Halloween, but that isn't going to happen until my hand fully heals and looks better.

I'm just depressed about it and I just feel like a guy. I have no way to feel girly.

I honestly give major kudos to people with life injuries who only have one hand/arm. I don't know what I'd do without my hand for the rest of my life.

THAT has got to really rot.

Little story from when I was 10. Playing "king of the mountain" with some of the local "guys" and thought I'd made it to the top, when suddenly pushed off. Landed backwards and instinctivly had put out my hands to break my fall. Ended up breaking my wrist. (This was late summer of 1955) Ended up with cast on my right arm. (those days the thing was usually quite massive, unlike modern medicine)

First day of school and homework assigned. Next day when it was to be collected, I had none, (figured I'd be able to "skate" with the broken writing wing). Sister "sadist" asked where it was and I pointed to my arm still in the cast, (not due to be removed until Late Oct) and explained that I was right handed and couldn't write with it. "So what's wrong with your other hand?" was her answer to my excuse. "I don't know how to write with it." (weak answer, I know, but knowing I was doomed, it was like grasping at straws while drowning). Her one word statement/command taught me something I've been able to apply ever since. "LEARN" was all she said, and then "I want last night's homework and tonight's homework on my desk in the morning"
GOD had spoken, no appeal , no excuse.

I "learned" that night, penmanship was bad at first but got better in the next few weeks. I can still write with my left hand to this day. Not as fast as my right hand, but I can do it.

So, saying "I don't know what I'd do... " brings up the words of the past, and I can still hear her say "LEARN"

Sorry to hear about your bad fortune. But hopefully a lesson learned about using the right tool for the job (sorry, that's the father in me coming out).

As far as wearing a bra, I found a bra at Kohl's made by Warner's called a bralette. It has no closures and gets pulled on over your head, and it still has enough support to hold my forms (although I'm only a B cup). There's also the option of sports bras, but I've not had much success with them holding my forms in place.

As far as the hose, hope for warmer weather to come soon so you can go bare legged. And you might consider having a few wrap skirts modified with Velcro closures, which would be easier to do with one hand.

Hope you have a speedy recovery, and if the docs don't suggest physical therapy, request it. It will speed you to a more complete recovery.

I learned a mighty good lesson. I'll now be getting a pair of kevlar gloves and choosing my tools more wisely.

I am really sorry to hear of your accident! That sounds awful and I wish you a speedy full recovery.

But I wonder, WWGGD -- what would a genetic girl do? She'd have to put on her bra and her makeup and get on with her life, wouldn't she?

She'd probably come up with some clever solutions, like a sports bra with no hooks, perhaps?

I have heartfelt sympathy for you my dear...I tore a ligament in my left knee a little over two years ago and have been on a long road to recovery ever since. I was told at the time that I may never have 100% use of my leg again. I quit dressing because i couldn't hardly walk without the use of crutches or a cane let alone wear the High Heels which I so very much loved...I went into a very depressed mode which I am just now coming back out of. I am up atop my heels again and walking took several laps around the Mall this morning and I fully intend to prove my Doctor wrong.
Take a piece of advice from me....Don't let this injury get you so down. It is still easier to find other ways to feel girly than it is to fight yourself back out of depression. buy yourself something nice, warm, pink and comfy that is easy to get on and off and then remember this is only temporary and soon you will be back in the outfits you love so much. remember also, that even the girliest GG have injuries and they don't let it stop them from continuing to be girls so why would you?

Where there's a will, there's a way. GG's manage, so can you. NO it's not easy, but it can be done. I had my arm in a cast for 6 weeks. As I remembered most women I've dated pulling their bras off over their heads and around their arms without unclasping them, I figured you can manage to put them on the same way in reverse. Not easy, but possible. Same with stockings. Not easy, but possible. It really depends on how much you want to put them on.
Life isn't always easy. But if you put your mind to it, you can manage.

When in my teens, I had my pet iguana bite my finger tip off. :eek:
Sewed back on by a doctor!:)

And, while trying to remove the top off a glass resin bottle with a wrench, I sliced deeply into another finger when the entire top of the bottle came off instead!:straightface:

Thanks for the encouragement everyone, I'll try to do put some stuff on tonight. I've definitely still been shopping!

Though I've bought some guy clothes recently because I realized I only had _one_ pair of jeans left after the blood from my hand destroyed the others! I hadn't bought guy clothes in over 2 years!

See, there is a light at the end of the tunnell...we should all be this lucky. i need flats and a new pair of work out sneakers and of course a new spring sundress and if i continue to lose weight i may just try to wear a bikini this year....
