Well I will be going to court this morning for name change. I am a little nervous, excited and scared. It's going to suck when they call me up to the podium by my old name. I really do not look like that person anymore, but the big day is here and I am ready.

Good luck with your court date. Just think, your days of being called by your male name are numbered. I cant wait until I am at this stage to change names.

Enjoy your day in court. I understand what you say about not looking forward to being called to the podium by your old name, but perhaps you could think of it this way - he will go up to the podium and you will come back from it!

Court was good, no problems. Thanks all.
Well then welcome back Gretchen. Doesn't it feel liberating to now never having to use your old name again? I can't wait!

It's not done yet. I have to post a Legal notice in the local paper for three weeks, then it will be done. Then on to the next step.

A legal notice to whom??? The world that your name is changing. Wow I didn't know that.

that's what i found out too! ...i talked with the judge and that was that...or so i thought..
a funny thing happened is that i went to the newspaper and handed my papers and it took three times to explain to the clerk that I was the person that was changing names...she kept saying but this is a man..and she finally just went..."ohhhhhhh......."
of course i was delighted..
good luck..having your name be "real" is a big deal
the legal notices are used by law and tax firms and other authorities to help them find people , especially people that change their names in an attempt to avoid obligations...the notices are avoidable in some states if you have a good reason and enough money to get a court to waive the legal notice requirement
