As I have mentioned elsewhere, my Son is a qualified therapist and he is disturbed by the amount of unqualified people who practice as therapists , the other thing is to strike a rapport with them this he has told me is the most important thing and I would think difficult to achieve if you can't meet them face to face HTH

LOL @ paula, you go right a head. I have come to realize like on the phone I cant relate to online or phone. Has to be Face to Face. Then you get the true worth of therapy. Online or phone is such a waste of time. If you build a relationship with a therapist an cant make a meeting for some reason, then a phone session would be ok. Not from go its just not therapy.

no experience with on line services, but I'd really suggest RL encounters. as Breena said, a big part of therapy is building a trusting relationship with the therapist. Its a long term process.

And in some sense, I'd be concerned that on line encounters might be a way of avoiding the necessity of being open and honest with a real person sitting accross from you.

I've seen cartoons and skits on TV showing a guy calling a sex hot-line. Sexy female voice on the other end was a fat ugly woman with kids hanging on while she does the ironing. But the caller didn't know that, of course. You never know who you're talking to. And have you seen their degrees, certificates, licenses, etc.?

They are probably just as good as an online physician or surgeon, maybe almost as good as an online repair person.

I have this image of some slob, unshaven who has 6 windows on his computer open; 3 to porn watching daytime TV (Judge Judy and Dr Phil are his favorites) and who failed high school. The wonder of the cyberworld is you can be whatever you want to be (wait a second Hilary I am posting on CD.com and I don't have time for Quadaffi right now). I spend a whole year playing poker online as a female. They fell for it and often folded just to be nice. I don't think that would work in Vegas.

States have rules, professions have rules. Neither one would be able to enforce them in the cyber world.

Now if you will excuse my I have to chat with a 20 year old, PhD/Stripper, ex debutante in Baltimore who can't get a date and she is soooooooo lonely

I used an online therapist because at the time I was afraid to face anyone with my issues. I found a therapist through live person and while I started online I soon started doing sessions over the phone.
I did use the information given me about the therapist and I looked up the practice she had and confirmed she was a real person.

but your right online therapy for something as complex as gender issues is not the best way to go. Eventually I relized that and I got the courage to find a local therapist to do real face to face sessions.

I did do all my phone sessions en femme. I just felt better that way.

I don't think I'd go so far as to actually use an online therapist. It'd be just my luck to get Doctor Quack out of the hundreds of listed online therapists.
