For some of us that is still in the closet.
How many use Halloween to use that as a excuse and buy dress, wigs and so. I think this help most of us not to feel too embrasses to shop.
I'm very much in the closet and I can't even bring myself to buy stuff in stores during halloween. I always think about doing it but never can bring myself to do it.

I used Halloween as a great excuse to buy my first pair of high heels. I went to a store that sold women's shoes in large sizes. I got there a few minutes after it opened thinking that there wouldn't be any other customers there at that time. The sales girl asked me if she could help and I replied that I was looking for a pair of black heels for myself for Halloween. She showed me a few styles and I selected a pump with a 4" heel. She asked me to sit down and to take off my shoes and socks. She gave me a pair of nylons that just fit over the foot, then she measured my feet. She then went to get my size. When she was putting them on my feet she asked if I was going to shave my legs. I told her that I wouldn't be because it was just for a party and that it wasn't serious. She said that it was going to be an expensive party then since the shoes cost over $100. I said that it was fine. I then stood up and walked around in the store to see how they felt. They fit well and were comfortable and so I bought them. I don't think the sales girl bought my story but it was a good excuse.
I've also used Halloween to buy a couple of wigs and a pair of eyelashes.

Well Bonnie, if you walked around in 4" heels, I'm pretty sure she didn't buy your story. :D
But what the heck, you got a new pair that fit, right!

Being Halloween DOES help---I can buy stuff and if anybody looks at me funny and says anything about it, i can look funny back at them and say, Hey, its for Halloween. :D

Halloween is a great time to buy something without being embarrassed. "Hey, do you have a Britney Spears wig for my wife?" You probably wouldn't get a second look.
But Valentine's Day is equally good or better. You can walk into Victorias Secret after skimming over their catalogue for several weeks, circle what you want, bring it in 2 or 3 days before Valentine's Day, show it to a salesgirl and say, "This is what my wife wants. Size ___. Could you get it for me, please?" If you pretend that you know absolutely nothing, it will even help more. They may even feel sorry for you.
Don't forget to ask for a gift box even if they don't give any!
I bought a nice bra and matching panties last year
and can't wait for a nice negligee or cami!

HI ALL yes valentines day is also a good excuse. it's been several yrs. ago but walked into VS and of course told the girl i was looking for something for the girlfriend. telling her, of course, she was about my size. the sales girl really went all out. at the time i prefferd bigger boobs. so told her my girlfriend was heavier in the chest dept. all said and done, purchased a couple hundred bucks worth of stuff. very nice. but being older and bolder i'm now like VERONICA. i'll buy what i want anywhere. i guess with time, we become braver. they can think, HEY A CROSSDRESSER!! yes thats right!

Ok.....As you probably know I'm a Brit who is now is a permanent resident of the US.
Even after living here for 3 years now, I still don't quite "get" the whole Halloween dress up...why on Halloween?.. but it doesn't matter because (of course) being a cder "dressing up" is my middle name !
If I was going to go to a Halloween party Target has a fantastic costume in their men's humor department called "Pink Bunny La Roo" :D

Like many of us, I'd look forward to October all year long... a chance to buy a pair of heels, or whatever. For whatever reason, for the past year or so I've come to be able to do alot of shopping for Tammi, regardless of the calendar. Oh, btw, did I mention I LOVE IT!! :D

Angel, in the States, ever since I could remember, Halloween has always meant "Trick or Treat" more than a religious observance. Kids would dress up as monsters, ghosts, pirates, or anything they wanted, knock on doors, tell a joke or try to scare people, and in return, they would receive candy, toys, etc.
The adults, not to be outdone, would arrange Halloween or Masquerade parties. It is and has been not uncommon for people to go in costumes of the opposite sex. Imagine a guy dressing as Cher and his wife dressing as Sonny!
This is totally accepted by most of American society...on this day only!
So, it gives us girls a chance to go the max without blowing a cover and being able to be in public dressed. Of course, it's always nice to be talked into dressing by a GG who promises that she will do your makeup!
Note to Obsessed: Unfortunately, not everyone can just do what they want to do. That's what "being in the closet" means. I think we all envy that you can just dress whenever you want and that your wife accepts it. But not everyone is in your situation... don't mean to be snide or defensive, but if I could go into Victorias Secret on any day of the week and ask the salesgirl to size me up for a Miracle Bra.... I'd do it in a second!

Hi Jacqui,
Thanks so much for explaining it to me. I totally get it now :) Of course, it's related to the trick or treat thing! Duh....
As far as cding goes, I understand completely. Dressing up as a woman has always been seen as a "costume" for many people, especially regular guys, and so this is great because it means that it's the one day in the year that not only can a guy go out to a costume party dressed as a woman and no one will think anything is odd, but he might actually be encouraged or be helped by a GG.
I am very aware of what it feels like to have a GG that you have a "connection" with want to dress you up (in this case for a costume party) and "turn you into a woman". It has all sorts of heady exciting feelings to it. And of course, it's like Christmas where you can go into any store and buy anything feminine and the store clerk doesn't think you're odd (not that she necessarily would think so anyway).
Thanks again

Last Halloween I went to a local salon in high heels and told the technicians I was going to a party in a dress and wanted to look feminine . First I went into a room and had my legs arms and underarms waxed. While I was being waxed I told the technical I was wearing a short dress and heels to a party and I love the feeling of pantyhose on my waxed legs. She made me feel very comfortable during the waxing. Then she took me out into the salon where some women were having manicures. She gave me a pedicure with polish. The women in the salon were told I was getting a pedicure to go to a party in a dress and heels.
This year I would go to go to the salon on the Friday before Halloween and get waxing and a pedicure. Then on Halloween I would put on a dress and heels and go to another salon and have make-up put on and a manicure with polish to match my pedicure. Then I would go to Victoria Secret and get fitted for a bra and other lingerie to wear under my dress.
Next I would go home get my wife and go to Olive Garden to eat. There is always a waiting line and the service is relaxed so I could get full enjoyment out of going to a restaurant en-fem.
Going to the party will be most enjoyable because of spending most of the day feeling sexy in a dress, heel, and lingerie.

Hi,
With that most convenient of holidays (for CDers that is) fast approaching, I did some cursory shopping for myself today. In the womens clothing aisles of one nearby thrift-store today I overheard a mother explain to her girls, who had asked what a certain male was doing enthusiastically pouring over the dress rack, that "he's just looking for a costume for a party why else would he be here?"
I never gave much attention to the holiday before becoming a CD, but it certainly does take some pressure off. Unfortunately no good finds today. Still have another two weeks to find the outfit of my dreams relatively anxiety-free.
Thanks,
Best,
Gunda

I'm using Halloween as an excuse to go out with a friend, who knows about me, in drag... plus, she'll be dressed up FtM too - so it'll be really fun (and funny :p)

It's been great this year, Last week my wife took me out to a local costume shop and I spent about 40 minutes trying on different styles and colors of wigs. I found out that I make an ugly blond but a nice auburn. Then we went over to the stage make-up counter where I bought some pancake foundation. I have lighter skin but darker wiskers so they tend to show through even when closely shaved, and wanted somthing that would be able to cover it up. Next up.... new high boots.

I am in college. I have done the "School Girl" thing once already for Halloween (it was a hit), I am very much still not out to anyone. I didn't do the "girl" thing again last Halloween, and I really want to do it again. I know I just have to buck up and do it and not worry about others, but I am trying to think of a way to do the girl costume again without raising eyebrows that "Hey, he has been a girl twice for halloween, what is up with that?"

Jade,
I've got over most of my hang ups about buying clothes. If I do feel particularly nervous one day I'll go to a larger supermarket that sells clothes and put some clothes in along with some food. Generally most of the department stores are the same and you can browse with a basket and put various stuff in it and go to pay for it all say in the food hall or the mens department.
I actually find it a bit of a thrill now if the assistant at the ladies clothes pay desk chats to me about my purchase as they someimes do or says something simple like "do you want the hanger with your skirt". I buy everything bar shoes in shops and the only reason i dont buy the shoes is I need a larger size than they usually stock.
The one thing i do wait until halloween for is a wig or if i want to buy clothes from a charity shop - after all who'd buy new clothes for a halloween outfit anyway!
Sarah
