Hi Girls,
I'm taking a privet belly dancing session / class in a few days and have been debating about how to dress. I've been debating about going in just a unitard, or a par of shorts and a leotard, with the top of the leotard exposed. My apprehension about going in a unitard is that it can show how “excited” I might be if you catch my drift. Any advice is appreciated.

Me thinks the answer is in your question.
If you are so likely to get "excited" maybe a dress that is loose but shows your belly whilst dancing is the appropriate.

I wore a tight tee shirt and my yoga pants when I did my first class. the Key is comfort, something that shows the body will allow the instructor to see how you are movin your body. If clothing is too tight it will restrict your flow and movment.

Uh, in a belly dancing outfit or is that like a black belt or something. You don't get the outfit until you have earned it. I don't have a clue about what goes on but when we Direct TV there was a channel that showed how to do it. I loved to watch it and did every chance I got. Good Luck with you first lesson.

Loose clothes, nothing tight or the belly won't be like jelly and wobble :)

Why not a belly dancing outfit? I'm thinking of getting one because I think it would feel fantastic to wear. I might get a tutorial DVD, though, because, to be honest, I'm kind of a clumsy person. Some dance might inject a bit of grace.

What does the instructor say? I would think you'd want to avoid the full costume at first because they're going to want to see how your body moves, not have it obscured with lots of flowy fabric. But the teacher's advice is what really counts.
