I once recieved a big shock, when I discovered an old school friend male
was transgendered.

The real shock was how I found out.

She appeared on a Chat Show ( oprah / trisha ) all I could do was sit with my mouth open gobsmacked !!!!!
I wish I could see her now to tell her I am so happy for her.

Anyone else had a similar shock

Well, why not get in touch? Even if you don't know her whereabouts, the show's producers will certainly forward your missive...

Personally, I also had a shock like yours, but not TG related; I was living in Orlando, FL when I opened the paper one day to see that a guy I knew in childhood (our fathers were best chums) had gone berzerk and murdered his wife and kids...

I had a similar experience, although not quite the "chat show" revelation. My friend had organised a school reunion event, I didn't recognise the name although it was similar to an old (male) friend's name and e-mailed her, yes it was my old school friend who had transitioned. We exchanged a few emails and I asked in one when she had transitioned? I sent her a further email enclosing a pic of me - she had wondered why I had used the term transitioned rather than "changed" - and my pic explained it all.

We wondered if the reason we had become friends had been a subconcious effort on our parts as two transgendered kids. Its just a shame we didn't know about each other's TG'ism back then, just think of the fun we might have had as teenagers! (this was 30+ years ago).

I just recently discovered that one of the professors who taught me in graduate school was TS, she had gotten facial surgery and was considering going farther. We spent two weeks together in Europe as part of the program and of course our CD radar never went off. Too bad, when we were visiting London I went to a club and would have loved for her to go along.

We have chatted online recently and compared stories. Small, small world.
