Hello Ladies,
I'm very new to this forum and relate a lot to everyone. My question is "Am I now considered transgendered'? I've been C'ding for quite some time but never considered that I was TG. Thanks for your responses.

Not necessarily, unless you want to be female, you are simply a crossdresser, like a lot of us here.

Welcome to the forum by the way, and I hope you can find the answers to your question here. I'm sure you will.

Transgendered can have several meanings and can also be used as an umbrella term to describe all those who portray the opposite gender than their birth gender. A transgendered person is usually thought of as one who has done the complete transition and is living as the opposite gender. If you are a crossdresser and have no intention of transtitoning, you can refer to yourself by whichever term makes you comfortable. I prefer calling myself a crossdresser but can also be comfortable saying I'm transgendered.

You may want to look at this thread: http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?152198-What-is-%28a%29-transgender&highlight=define+transgender

In short, transgender is frequently used as an umbrella term that includes transexuals, crossdressers, and others who don't fit rigid gender binaries. This is the way the term is used by the Renaissance Transgender Association, and the way most LGBT groups define the "T". I would say, yes you count as TG, but of course, each of has the right to choose which labels we wish to apply (or to avoid labels altogether).

Like all terms it is quite flexible in usage. I tend to use TG as an umbrella term, keeping CD and TS as more specific.

The current use of the "transgender" term is, as others have noted, usually as a all-inclusive umbrella term, and CD's are included under that umbrella, so yes, you are transgendered.

Some CD's don't like to be labeled transgendered and will disagree with that.

There seams to be a slight difference in opinion sometimes with the term of Transgender most will say that it is an umbrella term to cove all from cross dressers to transsexuals but i think slightly different on this as i feel that you can cross dress without having any gender issues/difference`s and a TS also has no gender issues just body issues and in the middle of those two lies a group who have a floating gender issue which can range from just above the CDing to just below the TS and even crossing the lines some times , But (always that but) i should point out that i am still learning about this and the more knowledgeable ones on the subject will use to to cover all .

Well, I will be saying the same except different yet the same.

Transgender- Trans gender, gender concept aether fluid, in flux, opposite, non defined. May be apparent all, most, some of the time.
Gender disphoria - dissatisfaction with biologically, birth assigned gender body markers reflecting opposite sex to that of gender brain identity. Individuals may express such dislikes through, visual clues such as desire to express femininity of masculinity through clothing, mannerism, body sexual characteristics modification, living full time or part time, however long or short the period, as opposite sex that which corresponds with sexual identity of their brain. All these traits may be expressed individually separate or in combination.

I think it depends on why you cross dress. If it's just a fun thing, you are probably just a crossdresser, but if it's a deep seated need that wells up inside and takes over your every thought, and if you can't help yourself anyway but dressing up like a girl, then I would think you where probably Transgendered.

Here it is, from Merriam-Webster online dictionary:

transgender: of, relating to, or being a person (as a transsexual or transvestite) who identifies with or expresses a gender identity that differs from the one which corresponds to the person's sex at birth

That's a pretty big umbrella. There are those people, including some on this forum, who want the term to refer specifically, and exclusively, for those who crossdress for identity reasons, rather than for pleasure.

Some CD's don't like to be labeled transgendered and will disagree with that.

On the other hand, there are some who crossdress because they have a feminine identity and refuse to consider themselves crossdressers but refer to themselves as "transgender", and not used as an umbrella term.

We've had these discussions before, about definitions like crossdresser/transvestite. We tend to adopt terms and their definitions that we are comfortable with, for whatever reasons. Have we forgotten what dictionaries and other references are for?

There seems to be a slight difference in opinion sometimes with the term of Transgender most will say that it is an umbrella term to cover all from cross dressers to transsexuals but i think slightly different on this as i feel that you can cross dress without having any gender issues/differences

There are indeed differences of opinion about whether the current medical (and/or dictionary) definition should be considered valid or not. There have been many threads on this already and one is referenced higher up here.

According to current medical thinking if you present differently to your birth sex then you are transgender (which only means crossing genders). To be transgender according to the current medical definition you don't need to suffer from any form of Gender Dysphoria.

and a TS also has no gender issues just body issues

I am sorry, that is purely and simply wrong. I am TS and I have(had) serious gender issues - that would explain why I was diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria. It is not simply Body Dysmorphia as you are suggesting - it goes WAY beyond that.

and in the middle of those two lies a group who have a floating gender issue which can range from just above the CDing to just below the TS and even crossing the lines some times , But (always that but) i should point out that i am still learning about this and the more knowledgeable ones on the subject will use to to cover all .

The Inbetweeners do not necessarily have Gender Issues, they do, however, have a different form of gender expression. All of these groups of transgender people are equally valid and each has its needs which those of us on this site seek to support.

Rianna i expect you are right as i will admit that i know very little about Transsexual issues which is the reason i very rarely get involved in them so i stand corrected on that , ( i can`t be eight , whoops, right all the time ) :heehee:

I have been a crossdresser longer than some of the people on this forum have been alive. But i have never considered myself a Transgender! I am a man who wears womens clothing, simply because I like to!! A Transgendered man is one who wants to look and act as a female!! I dress like a female, but don't act as one and certainly don't look like one except for the clothing!

So the answer to your question, as you have already been told by others, is that just because you crossdress does not mean that you are Transgendered!!

My therapist says that crossdressing is part of the trans-gendered umbrella. But hey, call yourself what you want.

Girls, too often we confuse the term "transsexual" with "transgendered." The TS feels trapped in the wrong body and moves toward sex change surgery and hormone treatment. The TG person can be anything from a casual cd through to a 100% TS.

I consider myself to have a TG mindset.

Hi anhadd welcome. I call myself TG. I have known most of my life that I had the wrong plumbing. If I had known years ago what I know now, I would have looked into transitioning. Too old to worry about that now but just the realization has given me peace of mind for the first time in my life. Only you know who are. Tags don't matter much.
