Barbra P

I went shopping with my Daughter (she is 28) today at Avenue and had a ball; I went in drab – I don’t have the confidence yet to go en femme. I tried on a dress and a top but told the SA that it was difficult to tell how they fit since I didn’t have a bust. She suggested I go pick out a bra, so I picked out one with fairly rigid cups and put it on, and the bra made it possible to see how the clothes were going to look. I was being watched by a woman customer when I was looking for my size bra, so I made a point to say “Ah, here we go, this one is my size” and I headed for the dressing room. Couldn’t tell whether she was amused or what.
I was really surprised that I had absolutely no inhibition about stepping out of the dressing room wearing a dress, or a top, so I could look in the full-length mirror. The SAs were very friendly and they made me feel very comfortable and at ease. It was the manager who said I could put on one of their bras if I had my forms out in the car; she smiled and nodded when I held up the bra with the molded cups on my way to the dressing room. I felt totally at ease walking around the store in a dress, no wig, no makeup, obviously a man in a dress.
I ended up passing on the dress because I wasn’t crazy about the color. I went to look at what I think is the same dress but basically in blues, the two colors in the store were muted purples and sort of red and brick – looked more like fall colors than spring/summer. I did buy a bright pink top, http://www.avenue.com/clothing/Smocked-Tunic-Tee.aspx?PfId=235268&DeptId=19934&ProductTypeId=1, and some turquoise sandals http://www.avenue.com/clothing/Nynree-Stud-Sandal-Wide-Width.aspx?PfId=204470&DeptId=19969&ProductTypeId=1. I was offered 30% off if I would apply for a credit card, but when I declined the manager said she would give me the 30% off anyway because it was my first time in the store. I’m looking forward to shopping there again, only I intend to go en femme.
The outing made me feel much more confident that I can go out shopping en femme; don’t know about strolling down the mall just yet, but today was for me a giant step. The next big stumbling block is my Wife, I need to dress at home, which always causes a bit of chill in the air, and then let her know that I intend to go shopping – I’m not looking forward to that.
