Hi all,
I'm a 50 year old male. I've closet crossdressed my whole adult life when possible. 2 months ago I told my wife and she's OK with it.
Now I've recently been diagnosed with low Testosterone and been prescribed the replacement. I started the therapy 1 week ago. My fear is that I may lose the desire to dress as this therapy continues, and that I don't want. I love my new life.
Has anyone else been diagnosed as such and did the replacement therapy? What were the effects on desire?
Ill update on my progress.
Thnx,
Jenny

There is an awful amount of testosterone on this board and it doesn't seem to stop any of the girls dressing :)

Testosterone "therapy" is controversial to say the least. It seems to be propmoterd mainly by the drug copmpanys which shoud tell you something.
So, I would carefully monitor asnd evaluate your therapy. to be aware of any problems that might arise.

I know a tgirl who had to start this therapy. Her desire to dress Left her when she had the low testosterone and now she is feeling better and does dress some. I would also question Why you really need it and go from there.

Testosterone is more than just sex drive, it has many other benefits. If recommended take them.
If you don't, expect to put on weight!

^ quote of the year :D
I've read that CD/TG peoples have higher testosterone than "normal" peoples so I wouldn't worry about taking it affecting your desires.
I'm the type of person that bows to the experts on such matters, I'm an engineer not a doctor, I'd take the pills if my Dr deemed the necessary. Just my two cents :)

My Testosterone level is in the normal range And all I want to do is dress I think it's some other wire that controls how we wish to dress Jenny. I'm saying to do the therapy or not. I'm just saying it don't stop me from being girlie.:hugs:

I've been on testosterone replacement for a few years (Androgel). My new doctor recently doubled the dose. I have not lost the desire to dress, not at all. I feel better and all is well. I seem to be growing more hair on my shoulders and chest, but I can't really pin it on the Androgel.
If your doctor recommends it, take it. You'll be glad you did.

Ok, first of all, don't take medical advice from anyone who is not a licensed physician.
There are some MD's on this board and they sometimes weigh in on health issues, but I would be surprised if they made a recommendation on whether you need or don't need a perscribed medication without first examining you.
if you are concerned about whether or not the Testosterone perscription is right for you I would encourage you to see seek a second opinion from a qualified healthcare provider.
If you are not comfortable talking with your MD about how this medication may or may not effect your crossdressing, try finding a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in your area. You might find the NP easier to talk with. It will probably be a woman, and the way Nurse Practitioners work tends to be a little more holisitic. In other words, their model is a little more maternal.
And if your worried about freaking out any healthcare professional with the revelation of crossdressing, I wouldn't worry about it. Doctors, PA's, NP's, RN's and LPN's have seen it all, and they will simply answer your questions and address your concerns professionally and nonjudgementally. Their ultimate concern will be your physical and emotional health.
Good luck.

what benefits does testosterone provide? I'm looking forward to the day I get more estrogen in my system, but I'm always trying to build a case for myself to stay a man so I don't have to risk the negative side effects of transitioning...

I just started Testosterone Replacement therapy, I do 35mg/wk of testim, it's a gel. Girls like the way it smells. Thats a funny side effect. If you go to a urologist or endocrinologist, test for:
Prolactin
LH
FSH
Estradiol
Albumin
DHEA
Dihydrotesterone
Sex hormone binding globulin
androstenedione
Free Test
Bioavailable Test
Total Test
I'm 58 and had some very interesting results. Don't be afraid of it, if you're older and have insurance it's a good move to check it out, testosterone replacement can keep you sexually active through your seventies!!Like I said I take 35mg a week right now, bodybouilders can take 500mg/wk when they are on a cycle. Much of that aromatizes into estradiol, or estrogen, but the numbers tell all. I think it's great to get it checked, testosterone does alot for energy, fat loss, brain clarity, overall health. Check it out!

I started with the gel, but hated the smell. Went to the patches and they worked great until my skin stopped absorbing it correctly (I started having a rash). Switched back to the gel and still hated it, so I tried the self adminstered shots. The cycle is every two weeks so I would be up at the beginning and then down by the end. Can't tell much difference during that period of eight months.
Now I don't do any treatment.
The results are that I grew hair on my stomach which was never there before and my sex drive is down. Has been down for about four years (I'm 54).

Besides a specific testosterone amount, every man also has as estrogen amount in his blood. I would be curious to see if crossdressers in general have an estrogen amount in the high range or even above the safe range. (don't everybody freak out!) Even young men who have high amounts of testosterone can also have high amounts of estrogen.(estradiol) Yes, only a doctor's test can find out for sure. (you gotta PAY for it!!!)
First of all, I am looking at the situation from a different point of view. Lets say from a prostate cancer issue. From what I have read, a low testoterone level would be a good thing with regards to having a high psa reading and therefore having a low testoerone level would lower the chance of extending a cancer problem. So, from that point of view a low testostone level would be a good thing as it is a treatment of that problem. So, I would consider your psa test and do more resurch into where the testosteone level would benefit the whole situation. Which comes around to the original question, why would one want to incrase the testoerone leve?

You're absolutely right about the prostate. In my case, I have a bad pituitary. I already take Growth Hormone and Thyroid medicine. The trick is to find the healthiest place that works for each individual. I've had Chronic Fatigue a long time. I'm not selling anything.

I dunno what's up with me. I have zero libido at this point, but my testosterone tests smack in the center of the normal range. Seriously, it's the most normal reading they get from my blood work. I have the suspicion, given that I've been very experimental in my sex life over the past 20 years that maybe I have gotten bored? Is that possible? Wish I cared enough to find out for sure.

I have been on TRT, it made no diffence in my desire to dress.. The product I used was "Testim" a unpleasant side effect was that hairs on the top of my nose got darker and more pronounced..
The smell that I thought was offensive, oddly is liked by at least a couple of young girls ?
After doing the TRT, I dabbled with HRT, Estrogen and progesterone (sumptin like that) anyway that stuff made my sex drive drop big time, difficult to maintain erections, difficult to ejaculate.. HRT is only for those willing to risk impotence. Not that you asked but since I've had issues, there ya go.
Best of Luck

Happens with GGs too. (I'm a GG). My estrogen levels were way, way, WAY too high due to the wrong birth control pills, stress, and other things. I was having mood problems, I had no libido, headaches, fatigue, sudden weight gain, and I was generally very unstable and unpleasant. It took a while to figure out what was going on. Once I got my estrogen to normal levels (still higher because I am on birth control, but not as high as it was), I felt sooooo much better.
To the OP, I recommend following your doctor's advice. Get a second opinion, if needed. But, getting my hormones back in order made me feel much more "like myself." I hope that if you do replacement therapy that this is your experience too.
