Myojine, first off are you on an HRT? How old are you? And if not on HRT what are you hoping for? I just had my BA three weeks ago and it was after a year on hormones. The surgeon took into account my breast tissue, band size and build before we discussed what size and proceedure to use. The other issue is having augmentation is not an forever one time proceedure as they will need to be replaced after a number of years. Plus the type of implants have to be decided and their service to you.
So before one asks which would look better one needs to sit down with a surgeon and have a very frank discussion as to what is there for you. Hope this helps. Teri

Do you think it plausible that you will take hormones at some time in the future? If so, and that time is less than a decade off, then the recommendation is to hold off breast augmentation until you have been on hormones for a minimum of 18 months. Otherwise, your breasts would end up growing around the implant, which will not produce the best breast physiology and will tend to move the implants and make them look sufficiently bad that removal / reinsertion surgery would be recommended.
The "decade" I referred to is not because the problems do not occur if you hold off HRT for a decade: it is that after a decade you will probably need re-surgery because implants only last about a decade before needing replacement.

Just a quick clarification here.
Breast prosthesis do wear out. They will need to be replaced.
However, the ten year age mentioned above is not usually the life of the prosthesis. Most last quite a bit longer. The ten year figure arose because that is the length of time that most manufacturers will generally stand behind the product. Many, many, breast prosthesis last far longer than 10 years. Of course, some fail long before that.
You pays yer money and you takes yer chances.

Any competant plastic surgeon can do a breast augmentation that will LOOK absolutely fabulous.
The problem is not how they LOOK. The problem is how they FEEL. Most BAs feel fake, fake, fake. And the less breast tissue you have to begin with, the less realistic they will feel. That's why Sandra told you to go on hormonet therapy for as long as you can BEFORE breast surgery. You will want as much real breast tissue as you can get before surgery.

There are a number of reasons why it is much better to have your own flesh if you can.
Please see this older thread on Breast Augmentation in MTF Transsexuals (http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?131778-Breast-Augmentation-in-male-to-female-transsexuals) which explains a lot of details.

I really have to wonder why some trans-girls are so obsessed about breast augmentation surgery & even
think that they need it in the first place. I know we are all different & develop breasts differently, but after
just 9 months on hormones my breasts are already as big, if not bigger as quite a lot of natal females. My
breast size is now hitting a C cup. So one can only imagine what they will be like in 18 months to 2 years
from now, but the point is I am happy with what I got or will naturally develop. I really don't want implants
because as Stephanie mentioned, they have to be replaced & if you don't do it after having them in for 10
years, then you are taking huge risks despite the fact they 'might' last you longer. At a cost of about $10,000
each time they are replaced, this means that the maintenance cost will work out to be about $1000 annually.
Breasts grow for about 5 to 8 years from what I understand. But the greatest amount of growth happens in the
first 3-4 years. So you really should be thinking about waiting that long before having the surgery, because there
is a higher risk that breast tissue can develop around them & can cause a lot of complications when it comes to
having them removed & replaced later on. I am not saying don't get implants, but just consider everything before
you do because some women do end up having lots of regrets later on after having them.

When I was looking at them most strongly, it was a period of time when hormones were only a vague theoretical consideration for me, one that sounded pretty scarey. That was partly because I had seen lots of health warnings but had never seriously looked at prevalence or whether I was in the high risk categories and so on. It was also partly because at the time I wasn't prepared to give up the potential for male sexuality. Anyhow, between the various considerations, at the time breast augmentation seemed like the lesser of two evils.

The reported satisfaction rate for Breast Augmentation in MTF is pretty high, with the dissatisfaction mostly being that "I should have gone bigger"; I seem to recall the satisfaction rates are higher than for GG. On the other hand, GG who get BA and then are unhappy that they got it, rank their dissatisfaction considerably lower than MTF who regret their BA: the MTF who are unhappy tend to be quite distraught. For GG, it mostly becomes "a mistake that I can live with", but it is akin to a "disaster" for a non-negligible portion of MTF.
Now, that's talking in terms of BA that are technical successes or near successes; I have not seen any discussion about technical failure rates for GG vs MTF.
There was a type of implant that used to be used that tended to break open internally or dissolve internally, allowing silica to move through the body. Some GG (and probably some MTF) had serious medical issues because of that. The containment is considerably better now, but it is not perfect: implants can still rupture for various reasons. Impacts (falls, auto accidents) can cause ruptures, but so can folds in the casing either due to improper installation or due to the casing migrating in the body. Migration is normal to some extent, especially upon first implantation -- but one of the things that can cause migration severe enough to need removal is having notable breast growth after implantation... e.g., because one started HRT after implantation. Thus, it is recommended that if you get implants before HRT, that you get them removed when you start HRT.

After three years on HRT I got breast implants and had them put under the muscle. I love them and my 6 foot, 147lb frame looks great. Cost wise was no were near 10 grand and still even less then half of that. I have nevered met a transgender girl or even a genetic female who ever regretted getting implants. If you have a good surgeon and follow what they tell you; with proper care and with yearly check ups on them they can last you for a life time. Like any part of transitioning you want to make sure this is what you want and are you ready for it. For myself the doctor took many pictures and spent a lot of time with me to see what was right for me and my body. Like you I am thin and I have a very low body fat count, so I was limited to size and the way they would be put in. You want to find a good doctor who has a lot of experience with breast agumentation with transgender females, because it is different for us then it is with genetic females for the implants. A good surgeon will want to wait for at least two years before they do the surgery on a transgender girl. Just do your homework and find a good surgeon who has work with other transgender girls and you won't have any regrets.
