First off the healing process has been phenominal and I have so much to be happy about. :o The whole process as well as the events during the Be-All conference has made this recovery so precious. For all involved from start to date my thanks for so much.

The new highlight came yesterday when I had a meeting about the possible shut down of state service because of a stalled budget package. You see I have worked for 27 yrs as a state employee and this is the second time I may be sent home as a laid off employee because of actions in the state capitol. Now that is not the purpose of this post but the meeting with a long time friend I met there.

In an earlier life of mine I served as a union representative for higher ed employees and sat at the state level e-board of our union. There I had many friends and one was a gentleman who worked for our DOT, Chas is a large man who is impressive when he walks into a room but a teddy bear otherwise. We had not seen each other for years so when he chaired the meeting he noticed a new face in the audience.

During the meeting it turned to Q & A and of course I had a couple questions he had not covered. I raised my hand and after stating my name I asked my questions and waited for and answer. He answered them and then he gave me a look of puzzlement. It took about five minutes and then the light bulb lit up like a 1000W flood and then his smile of friendly recognition spread across his face. :)

The meeting being over he approached with a full body bear hug and said "WOW". We talked briefly and exchanged contacts as he wants to get together for lunch and or coffee. His looks of amazement and total friendship made my day so to everyone who thinks the older acquaintences will not understand or accept should take note, that may not be the case.

First of all, congratulations on how your recovery is moving along. :)

And yeaaaa, I love hearing stories such as this, where someone from the past has that moment of recognition (an a-ha moment) and then accepts without hesitation.

Great to hear you are healing well.

I agree 100%. Just because some things about you might have changed, give old friends and acquaintances a chance. You might be surprised. :)

Wonderful thread Teri. It really brings home the pleasant fact that sometimes things are much better than anticipated, and that little things like being remembered by someone can take on whole new meanings. Congratulations and happy fishing (when they let you!).

That's a heartwarming and encouraging story, Teri. Good people are good people. And if they've not witnessed your transition in progress, and they just suddenly encounter you in all your female glory, it's gotta be magical. Wow!

When I figure out the posting of pictures I have a new photo to share, but in the mean time I want to say Chas has been a longtime friend and if you was to meet him you would find him so fun and kind. It would just take a couple seconds as he is as genuine as they come.

'Real' friends are a lifelong treasure...

I wish our elected 'friends' in St Paul would do their job.
