I've been looking around for movies and stuff for a while that dealt with transexualism and stuff like that.
Oh and military/army as well...

Then i found... "Soldiers Girl" on deep stealth or soemthing like that.
I downlaoded it and watched it

It hit... very very very close to home for me. Probably because Im both trans and military...
So i was like Cool... do want to see..
I really wish i handn't.
Because now i cant stop thinking about it.
How... a good man lost his life because of some stupid... bullshit predjudice and alchohal...
a couple of drunk ass kids and bigotry ended up ending the life of one very good man as well as ending a very happt part of anothers very unfortunate woman.

I cant seem to keep my mind off of it... it bothers me so bad.
I don't get why, it.... just keeps crawling under my skin, and no matter what i do i cant seem to get the movie/situation out of my head.

Yeah it's a disturbing and sad movie, but I think it was a couple of young thugs with serious mental issues looking for a reason more than anything else...though dating a trans can be enough of a reason apparently... :(

I have to agree, and am military, too. Is that bad, or just normal?

I have the dvd, but i keep neglecting to watch it. I read about the real events and am not in a big hurry to get deppressed about being trans again. It almost seems that we exist only in tragedy in the eyes of the mainstream.

I have watched the movie three times and seriously doubt I will ever watch it again. For me it was a very difficult movie to watch. It is depressing to know there are people in the world capable of such terrible acts. Still it is a beautiful love story, just without the fairy tale ending.

Well... I guess I have another take on the film...

I REALLY liked the film. I mean, yeah I really hated the end - but who didn't see it coming? It's not like any one has ever confused the military with a tolerant or open minded institution.

But what I loved about it was this: The soldier in question - despite all the shit he took from the other idiots in his gang - loved Calpernia in a way that was seriously brave and beautiful and honestly breath taking. He overcame all of his macho gung-ho ho-rah homophobic bullshit training, he defied the culture he was living in, because of his love for trans girl. And it wasn't like he was a tranny-chaser. It wasn't about some off-putting objectification fetish sex. He was obviously, and honestly, and reasonably conflicted about that aspect. But he overcame it - and that is breathtakingly beautiful. Which of course the military brats must destroy - and they did.

So honestly the film gives me hope. It should give us all hope. No matter what sorts of freaks people think we are - there are those in the world who still love us. But the film should also remind us to stay safe, and away from those who will hurt us and those who love us.

You will probably want to avoid "Boys don't cry" too. Though that one will mess with your head a bit more if you live in rural America...

If you want to watch a trans film that doesn't make you angry in the end - try "Normal."

Yes it was a true story.. and Calpernia Addams was danceing a a club called the Connection down on the river in Nashville, TN. Went to this club one night, but didnt go in due to the crowd and the fact i was going to have to walk a block in heels as that was the closet parking.. this club was 3 stories and the weekend it was always completely full. Some said it would hold around 3, 000 people. Never any trouble at the club per a friend who's brother was a cop that worked the area.

Calpernia worked with the producers on the film and helped them get it the way it should be as to her. She has since went on to a complete SRS and is working on films and plays as well as a short sting on Logo with her own show.

If you search on youtube, I think there is a behind the scenes video on the actor and how they did his costume. Pretty neat stuff.
