I've said it a millon times in other threads, the more common place we make ourselves the more common place we become!
I have thought of an analogy from my life that to me helps makes the point.
This is a hay-seed redneck town. Back in the 70's when was about 5-ish, there just were not many people of color in this town... This is when I saw one for the first time in Buckeye-mart... I was in a bit of a shock, my little 5 year old brain ws working overtime on this delema. Finaly I asked my Grandma waht tath was.
Anywho, she explaind (in a small town, Archie Bunker-ish tinted view) that it was a black man, and that some peole just have a difenrt skin color, and yadda yadda yadda..... Oh,,, ok I thought, but yea, I was still a bit uneasy about it.
As time went on more and more people of color came to town, and I began seeing them almost dayly. Then it quickly became no big deal to me to see them.
Thus the moral of the story, if that little, Archi Bunker inspired, 5 year old can grow up to think nothng of crossing paths with people of a difent race, then I say if we get out there and make ourselves known, then we will eventyualy find full exceptence in mainstream soceity.
