...... To my beautiful nails!!! Sigh.... Going to clip them off... Just to keep peace in the family. My wife noticed them last night. Don't know how she couldn't since I accidentally jabbed her in the arm with them! Lol. Dumb dumb!! But it was a fun couple weeks with them nice and long... Taking those vitamin D supplements really helps!! 4 coats of matte clear polish!! They feel amazing!! Ohh well!

Here's what they look like. - http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/270310_10150230215452051_714332050_7879006_4478824 _n.jpg

Just wondered is anyone else able to fly under the radar with their SO and how long does it take for her to notice?

Karren, you have great nails - everyone is going to notice. But isn't that the point of having great nails - you want people to notice? Unless, of course, it's your wife's new divorce lawyer. ;)

Whew! I thought you were dissappearing for good. Lol! This forum would be an awfully dull place if you did.

It's always hard to give up something you've worked at. I'm not a fingernail person, my lifestyle is too rugged, and it's hard to play guitar with long fingernails.
I do get pedis, though not in deep summer when I'm out in sandals everyday. July/August is off-season for me.

She's objecting to that length? What does she want, cut back to the quick?

Sorry, I understand the need for marital harmony, but those nails are well within the range for well-groomed men! Mine are about the same length, but not nearly so good looking due to years of nail-biting.

I agree, I let mine grow longer than that, and I never tought a thing about it. that's the length I start biting them :-)
I may have to reconsider now that I see how nice they look!

kind of weird to clip them, see if you can just trim them off and keep the clear coat... worth a shot.

I visited the Physical therapists office this afternoon..Two of the women who work there know of my prediliction...It's fun bantering with them..They like my toes..

Rather than clip them, why not file them back a bit and see if that will suffice? With your tips like they are, any amount of filing will make a visible difference. As you said in the other thread every one of us is in a closet of some sort, but I didn't expect yours to be a nail closet! :)

Yes, I get that too from time to time - that, and a steely, flinty-eye squint and stare from across the dinner table when she suspects that I might have plucked my eyebrows too much or - horror of horrors! -actually waxed them to make them more manageable.:doh::heehee:

I'd be happy with that length too, for my SO. I don't know if I should tell her that I think her nails are too long. Her nails are twice as long as yours, and she keeps them rounded, not square like yours.

I keep telling myself it is none of my business. But each time my boys come I hope they will not notice. :p

Hmmm. Vitamin D supplements. Thanks, I'll try those. My finger nails are awful, they keep breaking and splitting. They always have. I gave up on them years ago. Toe nails are good though.

Actually, this is a really good point and should be taken seriously. Women have been working for years to have the right to act more and more like men. They have tried to reduce the pressure to always be beautiful and have to spend all of their time getting glammed out when they have other things they would rather be doing.

When a woman insists on dressing like a man, keeping her nails, short, not wearing make-up, not getting her hair done, or not doing any kind of hair care, wears plain loose clothing, and so on, she needs to remember that these were rights and freedoms that women didn't have even 40 years ago.

I remember when our school was voting to let girls wear pants to school. Prior to that they were only allowed to wear skirts, and the skirts had to be no longer than knee length and no shorter than 6 inches above the knee.

The deal for boys was that since girls got to wear pants when it was cold, the boys could wear shorts when it was hot. When it started getting hot, I wore a pair of cut-off shorts. The gym coach told to of the big jocks to drag me face down across the asphalt pavement to rip up my legs, then take off my shirt and pull me by my legs face down to rip up my chest. It was a message to any of the other boys at school, "conform to the uniform (long pants, loose shirts, flat sneakers or oxfords) - or else".

Every once in a while, when I'm out as Debbie, all glammed up, wearing my skirt and heels, and I hear some teen-age girls getting the giggles, I'll turn around and tell them, "I had a wife, two kids, and I haven't missed a child support payment, remember that when your macho boyfriend gets you pregnant and then doesn't want to acknowledge that you even exist, or spends your rent money on strippers and hookers".

Ironically, my daughter ended up marrying a soldier boy, who had a big problem spending too much money on strippers and hookers. My ex hated him, and started asking Amanda if she wouldn't be better of like a guy more like me.

I read that the proper length for males is "no more than 3mm". So, I showed that to my wife, and she doesn't complain if I keep them at about 3mm. Sometimes I "forget" to file them back until they are 4mm. Yours are less than 3mm, so keep them going!

I've been keeping my nails that length (sometimes a bit longer, sometimes a bit shorter) for a long time now - only recently starting keeping clear polish on them. My wife notices but hasn't really commented on it. To my eyes, they're not too outrageous - I see a lot of guys with nails that long. You've taken better care of yours then most of them, though.

Maybe the length is okay but give the polish a rest for a while?

it is not the lenght that she is really complaining about. She knows that you are a CD and that is what she is really noticing. Anything you do that even hints of your femine side showing will be a problem. You have been around this room long enough to know that once a non accepting wife sees anything all hell breaks loose. I don't know what you can do about it since so many have had the same problem and found that it was her way or the highway. We all live with that to some point. Loving our familly, against being happy as a CD or TS. I wish I could be more upbeat about it. For now at least as you said time to cut your nails.

Karren, those nails are shorter than my father's, for heaven's sake!

I am in the camp that, if anything, maybe filing them a bit shorter might be all that is necessary.

One thought: I know that after a couple of coats of matte finish, the "matte" gets pretty glossy. Is that maybe the real problem?

Leave her!, if she can't live with your nails then she's not worth it :) OK, OK, I am kidding, but really, what do you have to do to live this life in pretend peace, sometimes is hard to reminisce about the days gone by when I had wife, lover, friend, but then when I truly start to remember the pain and anguish it took for it to work, because of me, now, I am free and must say, would never, ever, evvveeerrrrrrr, commit my self to such a lie again.

I wish I could give some helpful advice here, but, if it bothers her, It Bothers Her.

For the past couple of weeks I have been letting mine grow out, usually they are torn to the quick. And for the past week, I have had a translusent gold polish on them, with a sparkle top coat.

No complaints so far, from home or work.

I'm sure it has long since been explained in this thread but I have to ask, is that picture before or after clipping them? They don't look long at all by my standards. The fact that she is homing in on a small detail might be signs of larger issues lurking underneath. The tipping point of many arguments in often not the underlying cause. Keep the peace and watch out for what may lie ahead.

I know a bit about pleasing others by own cost. Never worked, never will. Regret, compliance, repression, burden they all are ingredients of selfless conformity but never, never heel the soul. You can stifle and send, such to the abyss of self and exist on with pretense and colorful charade of life wonderful. Yet you your self, will die inside a little bit, each time and suffocate the spirit which is YOU.
I am sorry to write such dark account of seemingly mediocre incidence, but these are not mediocre by any standard, these are glimpse into our hearts, our souls, our true selves.

I hope you will have your nails back soon, as well as freedom to be, just simple YOU, loving, beautiful, wholesome, feminine YOU :)

I have had long-er nails as long as I can remember and keep them pretty much like Karrens -- they do split, brake and chip very easely as they are quite thin but woulden't know how to function without them -- they do command a lot of attention just to keep decent -- sorry Karren but like hair they will grow back, buy your wife some time at a nail salon, maybe she will understand and quit bitting

Sorry, I understand the need for marital harmony, but those nails are well within the range for well-groomed men! Mine are about the same length, but not nearly so good looking due to years of nail-biting.

About that far out is when my wife starts complaining. She considers about half of what Karren's showing as maximum for a man's nails.

I'm sure plenty of people here won't believe me, but this is my nails as they are all the time, regardless of whether I'm in boy mode or girl mode. If you look closely, the polish has grown out a bit because it's 2 weeks since I last had my infills done. The nails are currently a little over 1/2" (13mm) past the fingertips. Yes, the backdrop of the the photo is this thread. :)

I've worked on cars, computers, house, household furniture (eg cutting a sheet of thick perspex to make an overlay for the desk that my 3-monitor computer is on), gardening, putting up about 44 metres (45 yards) of steel fencing, etc. with long nails. I admit that the fencing did some damage and I moved my infill appointment forward a week (from 3 weeks to 2) to get the chipped edges fixed.

I'd have no trouble replacing an O2 sensor with my nails how they are, except that I don't have time to do it so I pay someone else. :)

My nails are that long or longer. Occationally the wife will say "you're nails need to be trimmed again." Then I'll file them back a little and we're good for a few more months.
