I havn't ever tried looking for womens shoes before and know nothing about sizes. I really want to buy a couple of pair, so I need a little help. I wear between a size 10 1/2 to 11 in mens shoes, what would the equivelent be in womens sizes? I'd appreciate any help on this.

general rule of thumb, always go 2 sizes bigger in women's than mens (so an eleven would be a 13 in womens), hence why I wear women's size 16-17 :-0

For me, it depends upon the style. I am a 9.5 in mens, but wear an 11 in womens. The size 11 boots I have on now are too big. Generally if the heels are over four inches go for two sizes bigger.

Thank you all for your reply to the original question. I was also wondering how to equate sizes from mens to womens. I wear a 9D so i assume a 10.5 would be right

Sounds pretty good..but they usually don't make half sizes in womens above ten...so go to the next larger size.

Thanks I will, How high a heel would you recommend for a first shoe+? :)

I wear a 9D also, and usually fit quite comfortably in a womens size 11, except for heels. I have a pair of 4" spikes and a pair of 5" spikes and they both are a bit small for my foot. You need to be cautious with the higher type shoes.

I wear a 9 1/2 mens but a 10W in womens usually fits. Sometimes, depending on brand I have to go with an 11. If you go a little large and your foot slips around a bit try putting a heel cup or heel pad in to take up the slack.

I find the size of the shoe is determined by both the style, width and last.

I have a very narrow foot for a man, 9 1/2 B, and find that ladies shoes fit better than mens.
The narrowest mens shoe i can seem to find is a C width but is too wide for me.
In a wide in a ladies shoe, i can often were a size t0, but if I go to Naturalizer and get a medium or A width I will take a size 11 medium or 11 A.

I am fortunate i have a shoe outlet, not far from me, and the manager there is very helpful. As soon as she saw the width of my feet, she immediately told me a ladies shoe especially in walking shoes would fit much better than mens, and she was so right. She also told me she has a quite a few men come in for ladies shoes, and also some ladies with wide feet need a mans shoe

The difference between USA men's and women's shoes is generally one size. Since we have people all over the world, look at this for differences:

I am a 10 1/2" - 11"EEE, and I've got about thirty pairs of girl shoes (+2 pair boy shoes +1 pair unisex Birkenstocks) and I've found 12Ws fit best, although some 11Ws that are stretchy and/or adjustable will fit, but snugly.:)

My 8 1/2 mens doesn't necessarily translate to a 10 1/2 women's. It depends on the brand and style. Once I overcame my fear, I found that I enjoy going to the store and trying them on.

I also wear a 10 1/2 or 11M (D) men's shoe. A women's size 12M(B) fits me perfectly. A size 12W is too loose. I have a couple of pairs of boots that are size 12W that are OK by wearing some thick socks over my hose. Heel heights are really something you just have to try out to see what works for you. It depends a lot on how much walking and where you do it. If you don't go any farther than from the bedroom to the living room on carpet, the sky's the limit. If you think you may get adventurous and go strutting down the block on the sidewalk, you might get a pair that's in the 2" to 3" range. Be aware that the advertised heel height for a woman's shoe is based on about a size 7 or 8. The actual heel height for a size 12 can be a good 1/2" or more higher than advertised. I have a pair of 4" pumps that were advertised as 3".

Funny thing about the two sizes larger from women to mens. I wear a size 12W in mens and a size 12W in womens regardless of the heal height. I have also found it doesn't matter what brand I buy either. Sometimes, I can wear 12 regular in strappy sandals. The best bet is to try them on.

Men's feet are usually wider than women's. I swear by Payless because they are inexpensive, and have a nice selection of larger sizes. I'll bet a women's size 11 wide at Payless would fit you.

If you're not comfortable shopping at a retail store, you might try shopping online at www.zappos.com

Follow the other girls' advice on sizing and go from there. Zappos has a reasonably good selection of styles and heel heights in your size range. While shopping online can be problematic, in terms of receiving a pair of shoes that properly fit the first time, Zappos has outstanding shipping prices (usually free). They also make return shipping a snap......in case you don't get the proper fit the first time.

That being said, I wear a size 11 in women's, and I've ordered from Zappos many times............always with satisfaction.

Good luck! :)

Actually I wear regular pumps and open toed sandals and they are actually fit very comfortably. I can slide my foot in and out of them with ease. I was surprised at this, but it is true. I have met a couple other women who have this same phenomonen.

3" is a good start.... unless you think you'll be really unbalanced - then start on a 2" and work your way up. But 3" is the average heel height, and makes you feel like you actually have a heel under your foot ;)

I have ordered a couple times from http://www.womenshoesplus.com/ and they have been great, well made shoes, good pricing and fast shipping.

I have 2 1/2" - 6" heels, but normally wear my 2 1/2"-3" mostly
