This question is ONLY for those who have either never gone outside in drag or those who want to completely avoid being seen if outside in drag.

You're walking down the road at night in drag. You approach a 3-way intersection. To your left you see a car coming. To your right you see a police car coming. Both have their turn signals on to go down the road you came from, so you can't possibly get away from them both. If you run up one road or the other, though, you can get spotted by only one of the cars. Would you rather get spotted by the ordinary citizen, or the police officer?

probably the citizen.. even if I'm not in a dress I fear cops.. if it's a mean cop he'll probably pull over and frisk me for the fun of it. there's a lot of cops with power trips.

Hi Daniel,

Wouldn't worry us here in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The transgender community here has used its punch over the years to have very efficient anti discrimination laws brought in. Here you identify as the gender that you wish to be...that means if you are in a dress as a transgendered person the police here must afford you all the respect of the gender...if you are a transgendered woman going about your legal business and that also means to the the Womens toilet in a public place they cannot do anything about it short of a legal suite against the offending Officer.

At Seahorse Victoria we often have GLBTI Police Liason Officers come along to our meetings to expalin our rights with the law and the police...we have it very good here!!!

Cheers

Colleen

I'd rather take my chance with the ordinary civilian citizen. Generally UK Cops are decent types who don't bother you but I think that some would want to have a bit of "sport" with a man in drag as they would see it and technically over here for a man to go out publicly in female clothing is still the summary misdemeanour of "Behaviour likely to occasion a Breach of the Peace" even if no such Breach has taken place, so the Policeman could arrest you for that.

Definitely by the ordinary citizen. The police in the small community that I live in don't have a reputation for being open minded. It is always dark in the morning when I jog and I always wear feminine jogging attire inculding small forms and a bra under my T shirt. A few times I have donned my wig and just jogged enfem without the T shirt. I have been seen by she police many times. My biggest worry is that someone will complain about a suspicious person, then they will have to stop me.

I wouldnt run at all. The police are trained to spot someone who runs at the sight of the policecar and would probably think youre up to no good and give chase. I reckon that if I just acted normally neither would bother me

Hate to sound like a nitpicker, but CDs don't do drag, we go out en femme...

A lot of us here have suffered massive personal disaster because of people who confound CDs with drag queens, so avoiding the use of the word 'drag' helps - maybe not much, but it's still always a good thing to avoid those things that only perpetuate wrongful stereotypes.:)

Hi,

I actually was stopped by the Wisconsin Highway Patrol one night when coming back from dinner. I was all dressed up and had not had anything to drink. I guess I was going a tad over the speed limit (bad Stephanie:o ). I was just outside my hometown when he pulled me over. I almost peed my panties. Well, I had been to a Tri-Ess meeting once with a police officer who told us the worst thing you can do is try to fake it!! So I just sat in the car with my hands in plain sight and gave him my real driver's license and registration. I was hoping he wouldn't ask me to get out of the car. There was quite a bit of traffic going by. He saw right away that I was a guy and I used my regular voice. He saw that I was on my way home (it was about 10:00 PM) and he just checked the compter and then gave me a smile, a warning, and sent me on my way!! Whew!! I could have kissed him I was so happy, but that really would have been bad form!!:p

So the best thing is to not do anything that would make the cops stop you but if they do, just be yourself. There's no law against wearing whatever clothes you want (at least in WI and MN), so don't try to fake it. That's dumb and gets the cops mad!! Stay pretty and SAFE!

Love,
Stephanie Kay

Lauren, I only used the word "Drag" as that is how the Cops and most men view CD/TV attire. Mention a TV to most blokish blokes and they think of Les Dawson dressed up as his mother-in-law, or Danny la Rue camping it up, or Old Mother Reily, or any pantomime "Dame", not of Ru Paul or Dana International or some of the Thai Katoi-"Ladyboys" . They also automatically regard a CD/TV as Homosexual although many, as I am myself, are Heterosexual. (I was married for 10 years and it wasn't my CD activities that made us get divorced)

Sorry, my bad :o - I should've clarified; my comment was to address the terminology in Daniel's thread starter...

...but rilly, do let's avoid that term, unless we're talking about RuPaul or somesuch person, don't you think that would be best?

And in answer to the original query, here in Texas, where testosterone is the state religion, I'd rather the cop spot me - at least their actions are usually restrained by the fear of the likely consequences of maltreating someone. My macho fellow citizens demonstrate their utter disregard for consequences in most everything they do...

...and on that note, a touch of Texas humour:

Q: What're a redneck's final words?

A: Hey y'all, watch this!! :p
