Lets say I put my target size I want at 14, what weight do you think at 5'10" tall I would need to achieve to become a comfortable size 14?

I'm down to a size 12 at 145 lbs! So around 160 lbs should do it!

Honestly, that depends SO MUCH on so many different factors... that you'll know it when you get there! Your muscle to fat ratio, your bone density, your skeletal structure and where your weight sits will all impact that.

What I would recommend if you're looking to lose weight, is to not focus on a specific number or size - really. Try focusing on... 10%. Try losing 10% of what you weigh now, and you'll probably add at least 5 years on to your life, feel fitter and look better. Once you've done that, you can look again and choose something else - another 5%? Try doing the smaller goals like that, and you'll find that it's much simpler than just looking at a size number. Who knows? You might decide you look fantastic at 16, or just slide right past down to 12.

Edit to add:

Cynthia, it REALLY depends a lot on height and build. If I were 5'10 and had a size 14 build, I would probably be 210 pounds based on the BMI I was when I was a size 12/13 and 5'3 3/4".

If that is you in the avatar, I am not sure you could be a size 14!! Weight is only one measure of a size. I am 5'10" tall myself and weigh 170#. I wear a size 16 comfortably, pants, skirts, and dresses! But with 40 B's I cannot fit into a size 14 dress!! Besides that, I don't think my hips would fit either!! BTW, my 40 B's are natural, no forms at all!! I have worn a bra since I was 9 years old, when a doctor told my dad that I needed to wear one so I wouldn't have breast sag!! My Mom had died when I was seven!

I guess if you really want an answer, I would say you would have to be no more than 160#, with the appropiate measurements! I think that would fit you into a size 14. But I think you are actually a size 16, like me!! We are just big girls!!

I'm 5' 9" and 175 and wearing a corset I wear a 12 sometimes a 10.... So I'd say 185ish for a 14.

No, my avatar is only the outward expression of my inner woman. If you had to guess what size would you put her at?

BTW, thak you all for you're responses.

It depends on your bone structure ... are you thin and skinny?
I am not, and at 5' 8" and 75 kg = 170 lbs I am a size 16.

It's not about the weight, it's about the measurements.
Here's a size chart
http://www.womenssizechart.com/

A size 14 would be roughly
a 39-40 inch chest, a 31-32 inch waist, and 42-43 inch hips.

You want to reduce your waist. The best access to a smaller waist is good posture. You could have a 32 inch waist that's really solid with a well built core, and still be 160-170 lbs at 5'11". On the other hand, if you don't whittle your waist, you might have to lose more weight, but that will also cost inches in the hips as well.

Avoid the traditional man-crunches. They will give you a 6-pack, but without reduction in waist. Exercises such as the V-sit, palates, and dance classes such as ballet, modern, or jazz dance, where you are trained in not just posture and muscle control, but also movement.

Some people, both men and women, have also used corset training as well. I've found that I get the best results when I put a pencil or a piece of wood in the back, even a couple. It forces me to keep my posture correct.

The last time my waist was 32" was at 145# and I was 16. At 40 something that is most likely not realistic so in looking at that plus all of youre respones I should probably aim for a size 18. I think I could live with that, it would still get me out of the womans world isle, misses and talls go to 20.

I wear a size 14 down to a 12. It depends on the cut and how the manufacturer makes their clothes. I am 175 # at 5-9. With a "dun lap".

I've been trying to figure out my dress size too. I'm 5'9" at 157 pounds. I seem to take a size 12 or 14 on top (with moderate makeshift breastforms) and a size 8 skirt. When I really want to be sure, a size 14 is it. I have to do a lot of hip and butt padding to get it to look right, and a good wide, snug belt helps. I've received a lot of good suggestionsd from these ladies. I'd do some searching in the Advanced Search function and see what others have to say. Also, if I wear a corset, or even some heavy foundation garments, I can squeeze into a 12.

i'm 6' 0" and when I was 180 size 14 fit splendidly. But I found that some brands, a 14 really fit like a 12 and would be comfortable in a 16.

Well, I am in a size 14 now and I am 6'0 220lb so I tend to agree that it is body style.

I'm 5'11" 185lbs and I have a size 14 sundress that fits perfectly. My skirts range from size 8 to 12, and all fit well. It all depends on manufacturer. I now know why my wife always had to try on every article of clothing before buying!

It really depends on your skeletal structure too. I have known some who were certainly not fat or obese who wore a 10 or a 12 bottom but had to wear a size 16 top due to the broadness of their shoulders, which can't really be changed.

Since the fashion industry patently refuses to standard sizes it can be difficult enough for those of a "normal" size. If one is difficult to fit, it is best to ignore size completely and go by measurement alone (yours and the garment.)

Hi.

I think your sizeing is different so ill do in.s
5, 9.
weight 11 stone = 154 lb. give or take on that about 5 lb,
Bust 41 in.s = 16 d .cup size
waist 32 = 34 in.s =14 = 16.
hips 37 = 39. about 16.
shoulders = size about 18 in.s across the top. 18 = 20.

When I was 220 I wore a 16 - 18. And after loosing 50 pounds I found I could fit into 10 dresses with a corset. 12's fit too. 14's are too big on me... I do wear a 16 jacket just for arm length. And a 10 skirt. Really depends on your body shape and the cut of the dress. That's why its so important I try on clothes before I buy them with my corset on. I currently have a 35" bra band size (down from 38), and 28" waist when corsetted (31 without) and 38" hips.

I am 6' and 199 lbs and wear pants and skirts in the 16 range, now for dresses and tops there is a little difference there as I have kind of wide shoulders and need an 18 in a dress and an xl in a top most of the time... Alot will depend on how you body is mad up in the bone structure..

Well Im 6'6" (sans heels) and I weigh around 90kg and wear size UK16 mainly.
If I were 9" shorter, I think I'd need to weigh 65/70kg and fit a size UK12 to maintain my proportions.

You should follow a BMI scale for best representation of height/weight ratio.
BMI isn't perfect becuase it doesnt take into considderation things like muscle mass and body fat percentage (Muscle weighs more than fat as it is more dense), so only use BMI as a rough guide, but it should help you.

This is all interesting to me as I haven't found my size yet, still working on getting forms, etc. I would think one would want to measure w/ the forms/padding they'll be wearing since males are top heavy and slim bottomed.

Here are my stats (w/o forms):

BMI: Appx 22.9
5'9"
150-155 lbs
Bust: 36" (natural 34B)
Waist: 32-34" (shrinking currently)
Hips: 37"
Frame: Skinny, low shoulders

What ballpark would this be for dress size? I plan to upgrade my bust to a 34C soon.

Bone thickness, hip to waist ratio-skeletal-genetic, torso height to leg length, all those will give appearance of proportion regardless of weight. I am 6' tall, 165lbs and can wear size 6 but opt for 8( no fatty rim around waist line) but when I was wearing corset weighted 200 lbs and size 12 I think honestly I had better curvature ratio. So not how much but where to accentuate.

200lbs size 12 corseted no other padding / 165lbs size 8 natural, yes those are mine :)

My base size for tops is 16, although I've had some 14s and even a 12. I can't get my ribs any smaller. :D My bottoms are 10/12 depending.
I'm 6'1" and about 172-176. Without forms, I'm like 38/32/39 and I wear a 40c. Even without the forms in, my ribcage stays wide fairly long n the torso and even though my arms are thin, my shoulders seem wide. I think if I lost even more weight, I might lose one more size or I might not.

Ok, I am 6' 2" and weighing in at 200. I wear an XL top but sometimes even they seem a bit short in the torso. (old Navy runs long) As far as bottoms go, I started out in a size 16 skirt and I am so happy to say they are way too big now, Now I just purchased size 14 Levis and they are too big still. (my experience is that Levis run smaller then most brands, so I went out and purchased some Lee size 12 and WOW fits beautifully, My dress size has usually been a size 16 or XL.

My goal is to lose 15 or 20 lbs still and hopefully get a bit more fatty tissue on my chest and hopefully hips. This sould probably get me down to a size 10/12 and that would make my week. Oh BTW I used to be as much as 233 lbs. Kind of hit a plateau but I will keep trying. A girl has to have goals.

It will depend a great deal on the style of the dress. I usually fit into 16, at 5-11 and 190 lbs, but I've got a straight-sided shift type suit with 10 on its label that I can zip myself into. You'll probably get into a high-waisted empire style gown with a lower size number than a wasp-waisted LBD.

Also take into account vanity sizing, putting lower numbers than usual, which dressmakers do to inspire dieting women to feel good about getting into a smaller size and then buy the dress.

The only constant here is complication! :)

I'm 5'10" and 175 pounds. I regularly wear low-rise size 8 jeans (yes, that's size 8!) because they fit by the hip measurements. I'm a 40B on top so a size 18 is really tight, meaning I need a size 20 or a 1X on top.

With a waist cincher I can easily get down to a 32 waist, so what it comes down to is that I'm a complete mess when it comes to sizes!!!

Translate: it all comes down to cut of fabric and style. I have a lovely size 18 teal dress with a waist sash. If I lose just a couple pounds I'll be able to not pop the top buttons (I guess I could go down to A forms) and the sash allows me to define my waist nicely. A size 18 long black dress works well as it's a V neck and the bustline was gathered, so it all tends to work ok.

Once you've defined your measurements as you lose weight, you'll have an idea about how to put your sizes together!

Have fun!

Clearly there are so many variables in play. My height (5'9") and weight (162) are not all that far off some of the other respondents, yet I usually start with a size 8 and go up or down from there. Frame makes a huge difference.

I'm a comfortable size 14, sometimes 13 if I can find it. I'm 6'1" and 185 lbs. with a 34" waist. Most of the weight is up in the chest and shoulder area so the dresses are usually a little snug there, and loose on the waist and hips and sadly the butt. It's a guy thing. I can't expect to look like an hourglass without hormones which are a no-go for me. So I'm an inverted triangle.

The answer to life and the universe I think is 42 (Douglas Adams, Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy)... and then there is women's sizing..

I am 5'6"... no idea what I weigh, I stopped that decades ago! I tend to fit a 16 dress/top but could do 10 or even 8 with skirts, depending on the style. These are UK sizes though - I believe you guys over the pond size things differently?

Anyway... I am bloke... big shoulders and small hips... so it is all about camouflage!

Thank you everyone for your responses. I realize you are not supposed to ask a lady her age or weight so I appreciate your willingness to share. As for getting to size 14 i've changed my mind, I will simply get to 180# and then figure out what I need then.

Thank you again

For one thing, women's bodies are quite different from men's so there is no way to really translate women's clothing sizes into useful info. You need to buy clothing according to the measurement of your body. If you are buy a blouse, buy by the bust size you have. clothing sizes very so much--it's called vanity sizing. Why does one need to add 5 inches , for example, to find the bra band size? It makes a 38 inch chest into a 43 inch chest. vanity!!!
I'm 165 lbs , 5'8" and wear a 14/16 top generally ,36 or 38A bra, size 10 pants using a hip measurement because they are hip huggers. The waist to hip measurements for women are about 10 inches diff, I'm 34 waist-38 hips, hardly any waist to hip diff. so women's pants are going to be a problem. Aslso, tall sizes account for longer torso and arms such as men have. Dresses will probably never really fit unless you have a woman's body or a loose flowing dress. Size yourself by item of clothing, look at the sizing charts that all stores post, as they also vary by brand name. My heels are size 12, same as my male shoe, and normally would be size 13 for enclosed toe.
