Assuming I can find a job soon, I am wanting to start seeing a therapist at the beginning of next year. The only problem, other than not having a job, is the only therapist I can find charges $115 for a 50 minute session. I know therapy isn't cheap, but there are any resources someone might now that might be able to point in the direction of someone cheaper.

I have some contacts in Indiana and may be able to offer some suggestions, but I need to know a bit more about what part of the state you are in. If you're not comfortable posting your general area, feel free to email me.

Hugs,
Persephone.

You won't find anything much cheaper than her prices. You might find 60 mins from 100.00 to 115.00. I know who you are talking about and she is a great theripist. She used to have group sessions at one time, but it started to turn into crossdressers showing up with no desire to transtion and then most transgender girls and guys stop going. The best advice I can say is to start making a plan and a time line. It will not be easy, but if you are depressed and getting suicidal you will find a way to make it happen. For myself I sold what ever I could go without and gave up everything and anything I could to save the money to transition. I was at a stage in my life I hated my body and was depressed to the point I tried to end my life. Don't waste your money on herbs and don't let those who say they work fool you. I been down that road and know many others who also transitioned into females and also tried them and know the facts about crap like that and how they don't work. Good luck and I wish you the best.

My friends in Indiana replied with info on some groups rather than the name of a specific therapist. The contacts in the groups might be helpful to you so I'm passing them along. Rather than possibly post something controversial, I deleted the info on the groups she was less certain about.

Hugs,
Persephone.

Hi,

I can not vouch for all of these groups. INTRAA, Trans Lafayette, and NOGLSTP are all safe. The others I don't know, but can ask about if you wish.

-.

INTRAA is a 501(c)(4) statewide advocacy organization working to create a society that values and protects freedom of gender expression and the right to gender self-determination for all. Since its inception in April 2002, INTRAA has been dedicated to building a strong transgender and allied community to act as a force for positive change in Indiana. Northeast Indiana Transgender Support
This group is here to help support the transgender community within Northeast Indiana (Fort Wayne and surrounding areas). Whether you are MTF or FTM (pre-op and post-op are welcome) or just a friend or supporter, you are welcome here.

Pride Lafayette sponsors the Trans Lafayette Transgender Support Group for anyone identifying as a CD (Cross Dresser), TG (Transgender), intersex, pre-op, post-op, non-op, transman or genderQueer or a spouse, SO (Significant Other), ally or friend of any one of these groups that fall under the transgender umbrella. Allies who attend are encouraged to ask questions and learn from the experience of those who identify as transgender. The group is meant to be a safe space for self-expression and discussion of all topics related to any of the transgender identities. Meetings are held at the Pride Lafayette Community Center, 640 Main St., Lafayette, on the 2nd Sunday of each month 4:00-5:30pm.
