It's like playing a guitar. You'll suck at it the first time, but you'll gradually get better if you practice every day. Keep it up for a few years, and you'll be a rock god, dig?

Head over to the beauty section and type 'makeup' in the search bar for the thread. You'll get plenty of tips. Also, youtube is a great resource until you can get out and get a makeover.

Just start slow and try one thing at a time instead of the whole thing. Avoid red lipstick too, that can make one look clown like if you're not careful. Did you get lip liner?

It takes lots of practice and I'm far from an expert. Hang in there ;)

Go to the Janet's Closet website and watch her makeup videos. She covers how to deal with male issues and how to keep the makeup believable. The key is to start small and work up to the look you want. You don't have to go to her lengths, but the basic techniques will serve you well.

Do not fret Diana, Just take it slow, pratice, go to the places suggested. Remember, you are on a journey. Each stop, detour, and out right stop will teach us something we need to know. I know half the excitement for me is the time I'm taking to learn about dressing as a woman, learning how my body and mind reacts to it. You made an enormous step by purchasing your makeup kit. Have fun learning.

Get some eyeliner, for now I'd recommend a liquid eyeliner pen. Sounds like you probably got eyeshadow without the liner, but liner's one of the key elements.

Diana,
the best thing is to be born about 1990. Failing, that the above advice is good. Drop by taaz.com

Don't be! Omg... If I posted my first attempt at makeup.... children would cry and people would flee in fright! Lol. Took me a year of daily practice to get where I was happish with the results. I still don't think I'm where I want to be... Always learning and always practicing!!

Oh i remember how i looked like the first time, it looked so awfully bad!. Its hard to understand that you keep trying even after you see the first result. The clue is to use the feminine spots in your face and make them stronger. If you dont succeed with the makeup you will look more masculine than without makeup, its a funny irony. And thats the point, you have to look in the mirror at your face and see what is feminine and then brighten it up. My opinion is that the eyebrows is most important, its the frame for the whole makeup. If you dont succeed with the eyebrows you will look masculine.

YouTube has more clips than you might have time to watch on makeup, along with all the makeup talk recorded on this forum.

Having said that, my wife led me through a makeup primer one step at a time, and she was just brilliant at it. It might just be that knowing me she knew what order was best but here's the order we took:

1) Eyeliner and mascara. Until I could do these easily and quickly this is all I had.

2) Lipgloss. When all you have is these three it's easy to practice and wipe it off and start again.

3) Eyebrow pencil. We spent a lot of time talking about shaping my brows and how long it might take them to fill in, using an eyebrow pencil for filler until then. It's amazingly hard to get the eyebrows symmetrical using a pencil!

4) Eyeshadow. Wow..this one is never ending. There are a million ways to handle eyeshadow, so the deal was to pick one combination and work with it until the eyes were elegant but not overwhelming (I always seemed to use too much at the beginning!).

5) Blush. Once I had 1, 2, 3, and 4 to her satisfaction (and mine) we talked about blush. This one was pretty easy once I knew where it was going and why.

6) Foundation and powder. She let me borrow an old bottle of her foundation and her powder, but I quickly went to a MAC counter and got my face matched to a concealer, foundation, and powder. Later I added a primer and that is a wonderful thing!

7) Our next and last step is the idea of contouring, so I still need some darker and lighter "foundations" and/or some bronzer.

For me it worked because I could do these one step at a time and then move on!

It's all about practice, paitence wash it off and try again. Then when you are real good at it, try it with nails on.

It does take practice also you'll probably find out that went we all start we are a little heavy handed. You need a little color and we tend to use too much at first.

Practice and more practice. My first attempts looked awful and took me forever. I'm still not really happy with the results but no one points and laughs so I must be getting better. Once I got a little confidence I went and took a lesson. it was then that my light bulb finally went on. Remember GG's had a lifetime to learn this so be patient.

like so many others here, I was horribly disapppointed by my first efforts. Little by little I've either gotten better or I've become more accepting of my appearance. Its probably a little of both. The YouTube videos have been agreat help, as has watching carefully and mimicing as my wife puts on her makeup in the morning. She's been very supportive - happy to share tips, but I realize not everyone has a similarly supportive situation.

I can say from first hand experience that youtube is a godsend.
There are loads of video's on there from simple dayto-day makeup to full on glamour. Specialised drag tutorials, contouring tutorials (this helped me lots), how to hide eyebrows with washable glue, false lashes (another big help-along).

It's not like just pulling on clothes, it is a true skill, leaning which features to accentuate and which to hide, and furthermore - Knowing the difference.
Keep at it. Riding a bike wasn't easy at first.
