View Full Version : Realistic waist-hip ratio expectations?

I've been thinking a lot about being the real me full time and how that would happen. I'm 38 and living a lie is finally starting to look worse to me than being out to everyone in my life.

I know that hormone results depend a lot on age and females in your family. Most every close female relative I have has huge breasts and a sizable bum. I know that I'm pretty old to get great results if I do transition (I'd likely be 40 before I could begin hormones).

One thing I've found difficult to learn about is waist-hip ratio expectations. I've even gone as far as joining a pre-op porn site just to investigate the progress of the girls on hormones. Most of them seem to have poor results with getting weight to go below the belt, even young ones. Of course, sites like that don't give a lot of data on how long the girls have been on hormones and what their genetics are like. I have only seen a couple adult models who seem to have womanly thighs and a big bottom without implants. Bum implants look pretty obvious on the girls who have them.

For women on hormones: what has your result been on waist to hip ratio? I understand it's a personal question and I don't expect anyone to post, but I would sincerely like to know what to expect if I transition.

I'm about 70lb overweight and my male fat distribution isn't terribly masculine thank goodness. I measure about 48-39-43 as a guy, and I don't have broad shoulders (slight gynomastia even).

Any experience, feedback, or advice is welcome.

Thank you

OK... So I am currently 29 . been on hormones for almost a year and a half. I have not done any recent measuring. Not sure why. I guess it was because it was inportant to me at the time when I first started and now not so much. However, I have noticed that I have gained some in the rear however, other than breasts the bulk of my growth has been in my theighs. Hips are non-existant but that was to be expected since the majority your widith is in the pelvis and since hormones won't effect bones... kinda stuck there. Hope this helps.

I realize that genetics do have much to do with our abilities to reset our bodies into sensual angels, however I also believe that power of will and tremendous want of finally being YOU is way more powerful then genetics. I am my own best example of that, for all my life I dreamed of being who I always felt I was, sensual female, but my genetics steered in a different direction. By age of 40 I had become my father, chunky, heavy built, thick, short neck, beefy, no waist, no butt, wide shoulder, and to add to that I was a body builder for over 20 years to add to the horrible equation.

BY any standards I was doomed, but then I came to life's crossroads and chosen the only way I could proceed, Womanhood at last. Besides the obvious, I did not stop the dream and started a rigid but revolutionary diet which I believed in so much that I was able to overcome the cravings and wants, because I had a goal "to stay alive and become ME".

No it is not the bulls..t super fast diet, No it isn't miracle diet aether, but the results, when they happen, are a miracle, serious miracle at that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 years, low calorie diet, hormones for 7 months to date, herbals for 3 years, only highly nutritious, "live" foods and no exercise, yes you heard me, No Exercise!!!
Weight loss to date; 60lbs, muscle loss; about 1/2 of the original mass if not more, height shrinkage 3/4 of an inch, thinner feet, thinner everywhere. A genuine MIRACLE!!!!!!!!!!

JUST Believe Babe, and go for it, but you know whats ahead, besides hardships and painful spells of "I can't do it anymore" lays the will of becoming ME at last :)

gawd alexia awesome pic!!!

wino!! hello and good luck...
wino? hmmm...anyway..

based on your pic, if your body type is softer and rounder, you may end up looking very feminine in body type even if you struggle with weight..look around,..more women than not are overweight..

btw...i'm 6'2, and i weighed almost 240 10 yrs ago...but i am blessed with small hands and feet, and my shoulders are not not broad
i lost about 80 llbs, gained back about 15 and my body looks just right for a mildly curvy really tall woman......GO WITH WHAT YOU GOT!!! i learned how to do that, and that's what a woman does..
dont get caught up in what HRT did for others, it will just drive you nuts..your results are guaranteed to be different..

I weighed 163 pounds at my heaviest and looked like a fire plug at 5'6". At 29 and after 4+ years on hrt, implants and 1 year post-op I weigh 125 pounds and measure 34C-27_32. Like Alexia I wanted that body sooooo badly that I was going to do whatever it took to get there. I ate plain instant oatmeal, dry toast and oj or black coffee for breakfast, a salad for lunch, and fish or chicken for dinner. ( on occasion I would have a lean hamburger patty, cottage cheese and tomato slices as a treat). I carried a baggy filled with carrot sticks, celery sticks , and either apple or pear slices in my purse in case i got hungry in between meals. ( I never brought any home lol) Added to this I worked my abs like a mad woman, ran 5 miles every day and swam laps every night. Although I no longer run every day I still swim and and have taken up surfing. I still watch my diet, but I am able to eat a little more. Not easy by any means, but it does get easier as you start to see results.. it gives you incentive to continue.
I might not be a gg, but I'll tell you this.. I can give a whole lot of them a run for their money in that cute little dress or bikini.
Oh I almost forgot..water. I drank ( and still do) an ocean of water. plain old water ( I hate water) or water with a slice of lemon or lime.. water is very important for hydration, skin, and it actually will help you feel a little fuller when you eat. GOOD LUCK!

+1 to that.

I gained several inches at my hips over the past 3 years, and it isn't fat. I actually lost a good bit of weight, then stayed steady, then lost more. Now to lose 10 more. The only fat on my is in my butt and a tiny bit on my stomach. Looking back to my measurements when I started hormones to now, no one would believe them. But a good part of that is starting young and having really good genes. With no surgeries, I pass with no issues, even with a deep voice. That's even in situations most of you would never put yourself in for whatever reason too.

Ok, I have been meaning to throw my 2 cents worth into this discussion for some time, so here it is....

Hormones will not change your skeletal structure if you are passed puberty, especially past the age of about
25 years old when the skeleton has stopped growing. Older Transsexuals will appear to get some 'hips' with the
redistribution of fats, however the bone structure will never change without some type of surgical intervention.

Because I was born intersex, my body naturally developed with a much more feminine skeletal structure & at the
age of 15 or 16 I had 'hips from hell' which I use to get teased about & often confused for being a female. There
was no fat or muscle involved at this stage, because I was so lean at this age. However in the years that followed
I became extremely fit through martial arts & body building & one of my main goal was to build up my upper body
to reduce the effect of my wider hip ratio. However I always refused to use any type of anabolic steroids to achieve
this. However about 10 years ago, my doctor started prescribing anabolic steroids to me for health reasons to help
my body heal itself. But the effects of these steroids was detrimental to my health - this just made everything worse!

So now I refuse to take anabolic steroids for any reason - I would rather die to allow them to affect my body like they
did previously. In the past year I have changed my diet because I want to lose the weight & muscle mass that I had
attained. I have dropped in my weight very dramatically, however I am not sure now what my weight is because I don't
have scales to weigh myself, but last time I checked I had lost about 10-12 kgs from my original body weight. I can see
a definite change in the redistribution of fats and with that my female figure is now slowly coming back and to the point
that the top of my skirts keep slipping up now from my hips & ending up around my mid-section or tummy. So I have to
keep pulling them back down.

On the weekend I met a transsexual lady who has been on hormones for 15 years & she had absolutely no hips at all.
So this just proves that taking hormones will not change the bone structure, especially if your genetics never allowed
it in the first place. It is the same with some transsexuals who have quite significant breast development & others don't.

The other factor that plays a huge part in your development is what age you were when you started taking hormones.
I have no doubts that if I had of started at the age of 18 years old instead of fighting my GID & changing the appearance
of my body to look more masculine, then noone would have ever picked me from any other natal female because of my
bone structure. But narrow hips are a very common feature of any slim transsexual woman who transitioned later in life.
So a bit of body fat redistributed to all the right places can make you look more feminine than having no body fat at all.

Alexia's advice about a low calorie diet & only highly nutritious foods and no exercise isn't such a bad idea. However if you
do need to lose weight then you also should think about the types of exercises that burn off the body fats without building
up the muscle, especially around the mid-section & upper body. So cardio exercises like fast walking, jogging or running will
achieve the better results. But obviously stay away from body building exercises that are designed to tone up the upper body.

Now I am getting lots of compliments about how my feminine body shape is now coming back from my friends,
especially when I am wearing a longer slender looking 'body-hugging' type dress. Previously I felt very insecure
about wearing these types of dresses, but now I am starting to finally step outside my comfort zone with this.
When my confidence builds up a little bit more & I feel a bit more happier about this, then I will take some photos
that will show you all how different that some of us here can really be. ;)

Wait bone growth doesn't stop until 25? I'm 23 and I am 5 months on HRT, do I actually have a chance for some hips then? :3

Bones continually reproduce themselves thru out your life, your basic "structure" is done as you finish puberty. There is some evidence that hormonal changes could maybe cause a change in pelvic width, later in life. BUT, it is very unlikely to be visible, and it is a pretty small change. Growth in length is done before you are 20 ... sorry. The basic process:

{from: http://www.fastol.com/~renkwitz/bone_embryology_notes.htm }

11. Growth in diameter occurs along with growth in length. In this process, the bone lining of the marrow cavity is destroyed so that the cavity increases in diameter. At the same time, osteoblasts from the periosteum add new osseus tissue around the outer surface of the bone. Initially, diaphyseal and epiphyseal ossification produce only, spongy bone. Later, by reconstruction, the outer region of spongy bone is reorganized into compact bone.

-Bone growth ceases at age l8 in females and age 20 in males.

-The clavicle is the last bone to stop growing.

-Ossification of all bones is usually completed by age 25.

-Bone shares with skin the feature of replacing itself throughout life.

it's pretty much the luck of the draw, but there's always hope.

I left an "unpleasant" marriage last september and over the course of maybe 4 months lost about 20 lbs or so. I think the reason was because I was not over eating or eating sweets anymore. I noticed that this was the case so I sorta "institutionalized" it for awhile. I had weighed 175 ish now I weigh 150 ish and even got down to 147, of course a couple of lbs could just be breakfast, lunch and dinner lol. I have been on Hormones for almost 7 months now and have noticed a lot of loss of upper body strength which should also equal loss of weight but my weight is steady at 150 ish. Im very thin with very little fat and don't expect to gain much in the way of butt or thighs (or boobs for that matter but you can buy those) unless I gain weight. I can't imagine with all the walking I do that I will be able to put much fat on my thighs or butt! My goal now is to start Pilates and tone my belly. I'd like to lose that little bit of belly fat I DO have and replace it with muscle. I was recently reading in Woman's Day? maybe? I don't know it was on-line, that belly fat has more to do with diet than exercise though. Kudos to the celery and carrot munchers! OH and cherries too apparently they have something in them that burns belly fat!
I have accepted that I'm just going to be a pencil thin woman, tall and elegant with a 1920s body! I will look rather striking in a Flapper dress at a Great Gatsby party! HHHmmm where did i put that long cigarette holder?

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Honestly, I don't mind my weight. Being passable is much more important than being thin to me. My question is about what I put in the subject: what kind of results to expect in weight/hip ratio. My profile pic is just padding, unfortunately.

I also wonder how much a convincing feminine shaped bottom has to do with bone. Fat deposits seem more the primary indicator to me.

I know I'll never be a genetic functional woman, but being accepted as female by our society and culture is something I want very much. It seems to me that the waist hip ratio is probably the most visible and easily read characteristic.

There is no definite answer to your question, your results are going to be yours..... and as I mentioned before.. it's pretty much going to be a crap shoot. TBPO you're just going to have to wait and see. Diet and exercise in the meantime.. you can diet and exercise.. if anything.. you'll look, feel and be healthier for your efforts.

SRS changed my body more in 6 months than HRT alone had in 2 years. Especially in the buttocks and hips area. I also lost 2.5 inches of rib cage, which helps make the hips look even wider. No one experiences the same effects from transition, but all post-ops that I know look very much like cis-women, hips and buttocks included. In my opinion, and experience, HRT by itself will not yield the ultimate results.
