I don't know if this belongs here but I'll try.
In October my spouse and I are taking a "girls" vacation for a week. I'm so excited at being able to spend an entire week with her as Cheryl and just enjoy it.
We're going to New England and are at a loss for things to do/ places to go. We'd appreciate any help you girls could give.
For starters we don't care what suggestions are made...
We enjoy the outdoors/National Parks, etc and are thinking of Acadia National Park in Maine. We also like historical sights, museums, shopping of course. We plan on hotelling it so we can do most anything during the day and then doll up for dinner at night.
Don't be shy ... all help is welcomed...
Thanks to all... :hugs:

We love Boston and surrounds. Lots of history, great food and bars, much of it accessible by thier train system.

Hi Cheryl - Lots of things to do and see in and around Boston. The Freedom Trail will take you nearly everywhere in Boston that we have all read about in our history books. Museum of Fine Arts, Harvard Sq., Presidential birthplaces, the Mall at Copley Place, Fanueil Hall, the Seaport District are all accessible by the Transit system as mentioned by Kim. Of course lots of bars, & rest. Once in Boston, you don't really need a car, as the Transit system also goes to the airport. Just be mindful that Boston is also a big College city and not everyone is open minded. Enjoy your vacation stay! Any questions, you can always PM me.

I love a girls vacation. I've done a few in the past with my wife. New England is great and I've rarely had a problem going out. We have several Sisters groups that have regular gatherings every month. I help start the one in Boston and run the one in Manchester,NH. You should consider us for one of your evenings out. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sisters_of_boston/
Acadia is a super choice. It's one of my favorite places in Maine. If you like museums, the Maine State Museum in Augusta has some fabulous dioramas of wildlife. Freeport is fun shopping and of course has the biggest LLBean store too. Don't forget to stop at one of the little seafood places on the coast that have the brick steamers out front for clams and lobster. Their expensive and messy but delicious!
As others have said, there's tons to do in Boston and the mass transit is pretty good. It's a nice walking city with lots of tours of all the historic place. Try one of the pastry places in the North End for Italian sweets. I love the MFA (museum of fine arts). The have a lovely restaurant inside too if you want a meal while there.
Enjoy yourselves girls!

Thanks for all the tips. We have been to the Boston area before and love the historical sites. Perhaps we'll try some more this time.
We're thinking of Cape Cod for a bit and maybe Provincetown. Then perhaps a bit of Boston and up to Maine to Acadia National Park.
It's going to be an unstructured trip with no real plans...kind of just drive and go.

I am jealous. There is no end to things to do in New England. Massachusetts is a wealth of history by itself. You can also make a run up and down the cape. Cruising New Hampshire that time of year is quite pretty. Down in Rhode Island you can go to Newport and view all the mansions and ships. I always get a little homesick thinking of it.
And if you haven't dressed for that long before, the biggest thing I learned for those with facial hair is moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize. All the shaving can be rough, but if I did that every time make-up wasn't on, it helped a lot.

Moosehead Lake in Maine is spectacular. A little farther north and you can do some moose spotting. They are magnificent animals...just watch for them in the road. It will be around breeding time and they get rather testy!

I'm a coastal New Englander (Bristol, R.I native), so maybe I can help:
Provincetown, at the end of Cape Cod is about as TG-friendly as it gets on this entire planet (short of West Hollywood, Ca). That's the mother lode, but it's a bit of a drive. And knowing you and me, it's really not much of a challenge TG-wise.
I recommend the following towns:
Portland, Maine
Bar harbor, Me.
Portsmouth, NH.
Newburyport, Ma.
Boston/Cambridge, Ma.
Providence, R.I......the east side is pretty cool. I grew up here, so I am familiar with the place. You will have no problem with the rest of the city.
Martha's Vinyard, Ma.
Burlington, Vt.'
Narragansett, R.I
Notice how I didn't mention Newport?....it's too many drunken stupids like the Jersey Shore, except too preppy, and too crowded.

Wow...thanks a lot Nathalie.
Seems you pretty much covered the area. I didn't know you were from R.I.
We were also thinking of going back to Mystic Connecticut. We were there years ago and really enjoyed the seaport and the aquarium.
As for shaving...Sue you are sure spot on there. I haven't done this before and I know that when I do this for a few days in a row my face is pretty angry at me. I'll remember to take my moisturizer and also to begin now so that I have a little extra going in to this.
I haven't done a week straight before and I'm really looking forward to it.
Thanks for all the tips...Moosehead Lake huh?...sounds nice...I'll look it up.
