I have my 1st mamagram due on Monday. I've been studying real hard for the pass few weeks. I hope I can pass the exam. Oh darn! a Blond moment.
I was called by the people that are doing it and they called me by my male name when they left a msg to confirm. I kind of hesitantly called them back and said the VA had my name wrong on my records. I asked that they refer to me as Donna or Dee. The gal in scheduling said okay. I will see come Monday if they do it right. I didn't explain to her about the difference of names. Just that they have not corrected the records yet.
This is the first time I had requested that I be called by my female name. A few at the VA had asked what they should call me. And others, like the blood draw nurses I don't bother with. It sure will be easier once I can legally have the right name on my records.

Been on HRT for a year and a half plus and when I get my blood drawn at Boston Medical I make fun of my name. I look at the lady as she asks me my name, birth date as to make sure they have the right person. LOL I tell them what they need to know and say to the lady, looks kinda funny doesn't it? I do this alot in places where they don't know me or somewhere it just doesn't matter and make light of the male name where as I look female and dressed like one. For the most part I don't get in a big huff about it, I just instead make light of it an start small talk to ease the tention. I get good replys and no reason to get "Mortified" over the difference of a name. I will some day get it all fixed but for now I am stuck in a conundrum and I just make light of it and have fun with it. No need to explode just my time will come.
Btw I got to learn that lady's name but can't pronounce it , so the english version is Heidi and after the initial format I ask her " Heidi" how are you doing? She replys with a big smile, and says you remember.

Since High School I've been referred as Ms Dana on most correspondence and even had a pre-acceptance to an all girl college! :) I kick myself now for not pursueing that one at the time, especially my HS Sweetheart went there a year later... Nowadays even after receiving copies of my passport for job site access & hotel accomodations they still list me as Ms and apologize afterwards... Naturally inside that makes me glow and say none needed!
On a side note: Starla, I have read the VA is treating and actually improving their centers for transitioning Vets. My question is are you retired with benefits or where they consider this as an illness are you getting treatment via disability benefits? Just curious, I served 9yrs in the USN and if I could get support from them it would be great!
Thanks,
Ms. Dana :)

Hi Dana,
Sounds like you have it made with your name. Androgenous names can be a blessing at times. Yes, the VA is improving in how they treat TG. Ten years ago my therapist basically said for me to go elsewhere (UofM). He wouldn't help me then. I am tired of hearing them address me by my male name. I know the way to correct it is to get a name change. That will come soon I hope. I served 20 years in the Army with no combat. The womens clinic has been great about calling me by my new name. But when they send me to another lab I hear my male name. They do not have any therapists trained to work with CD/TG people. But they do have a LBGT group. My Dr tried to get me in to the group but they meet on a day I work. Not sure if I fit there anyway.
