Nigella and myself were at Leeds GIC today for her 3 monthly checkup.

The last visit which was her second visit since starting hormones, Nigella was told to lose some weight, which would help get her BP down and help a few other minor health issues or the hormones may be withdrawn, due to the health issues.

Well today we went and Nigella is 5 kilo lighter, BP is doing well, could do with being a bit lower but hopefully the new meds and losing more weight will help that, the other issues are all lowering as well, so with that the Dr has upped the dosage of her patches, she was on the lowest dose possible, so we have have two very happy people, and have another appointment in November. :D

Things are progressing nicely, slight breast growth, skin is beginning to feel softer, facial hair, well there wasn't a lot to start with as she has already had laser and just goes for the odd top up now.

Oh and because of this I too have lost some weight as well, so can't be bad :heehee:

Congratulations to both of you on the weight loss - I know how hard that can be, but it really is a great feeling when it does come off, isn't it!

I'm sure that the BP will come down too. On that score, did they check Nigella's BP at different times during the consultation? My diabetes nurse never likes to rely on the first reading.

The 1st and 2nd time we went the Dr did check more than once and used the lower reading, today she just did the one check, but we went armed...our own GP suggested we get a BP monitor, because each time Nigella went back to her own GP the BP was slightly high but not as bad as when she was at Leeds, since using the monitor her BP hasn't been to bad, but this morning when she got up and checked it, it was up, we have said all along that most of this has been worry about the visit, yes she has high BP and is on tablets for it but like I said it was ok but goes high on these visits.

It's so great to read good news around here sometimes. I know shedding extra weight isn't easy so kudos on both of your success and on Nigella's progress. Keep up the great work, it's worth every bit of effort.

Way to go Sandra. See what happens when GG's support their SO's? Good things sometimes come in very strange packages! Thanks for sharing and both of you keep up the great work.

Thanks for all the replies. We both need to lose more weight and don't see it as being on a diet (nasty word that) lol, we have done it just by cutting down and eating more healthy. As for the rest I have noticed slight changes like the breast growth but one other thing is how much laid she has become, don't know if this is the hormones or whether it is because she is so at ease with herself.

I'm happy for the both of you. Lower weight and BP are great for your health. I've noticed changes too. It's been six months for me on HRT. Being laid back is one. Also I really got watch my weight. I can look at food and gain a pound or two. But I do love what HRT has done for me.

Weight loss is always difficult, but it's easier if you can do it together. Congratulations on the great checkup!

First of all congratulations for the both of you! :hugs:

Weight loss is important for anyone who is over-weight & this is something the first doctor I ever spoke
to about transitioning told me. He said before surgeons would operate on me I had to get my BMI down.
Everyone in my local support group was telling me I was going to put on weight being on hormones but I
was very determined to lose it. Not only that I had to cut animal fats from my diet because they took my
gall bladder out earlier in the year.

Over the past 12 months I have dropped from 100kgs (220lb or 15.5st) down to 87kgs (190lb or 13.5st).
I have not lost this weight through any sort of exercise regime, only by changing my diet. but I think the
biggest change came from cutting dairy products out of my diet & eating lean cuts of meat with a lot more
vegetables in my diet. I absolutely love cheese, but I feel that was my biggest arch nemesis so I cut it right
out of my diet. So this means no more pizzas etc as well. I also started eating more fish like tuna & reduced
the amount of coffee & soft drinks (sodas) I consume. Previously I would drink about 6-8 cups of coffee a
day with sugar & milk, but now I have cut that right back to only having 2 cups per day. With the soft drinks
or what some of you might call sodas, I use to drink a 1.5 litre bottle of soda per day on average, but now I
would be pushing it if I drank that same amount in a week.

My blood tests are all coming back now showing very good results & my doctor is very impressed :D

Melody,

We haven't cut anything out, neither if us is prepared to go without and it's like the Dr said, you can eat what you like so long as it is in moderation. We have a treat once a week but again don't go over board.

Thank you all for your comments. :hugs:

This is a difficult journey to take as most of you will know by now, what has made it easier to travel has been my travelling companion.

Without Sandra by my side, I don't think I would be on hormones, she has kept me on the straight and narrow, helping me to reach the goals needed not just to stay on the hormone treatment, but to have the dosage increased.

I Love you my darling

Aww you sloppy bugger :)

I may have helped you stay on the straight and narrow, but you did all the work.
