In a few weeks, I'm going to Las Vegas for a convention, and would love get dressed up and go to a drag show. But, I've never been to Vegas, so I'm a little concerned about the safety factor since I'll be alone. I'll be staying at the Belagio, so I'd like to find a place fairly close by. I will most likely dress in something casual on a different night and camp out at a slot machine. But, just once, I'd like to get all dolled up and go see a drag show. If anyone has some advice, even if it's to say "Vegas is no place to go solo!", speak up! :)

Thanks!

Dear Renee,

Vegas is no place to go solo? Come on! The reality is just the opposite. Like most cities, Vegas doesn't care. Do what you want. Go where you want. Wear what you want. Vegas has seen it all before. You will have a wonderful exciting time, but Vegas is gonna yawn. Ho-hum. Another CD.

There's a new La Cage show at the 4 Queens downtown, and Frank Marino is at the Imperial Palace. These are mainstream revues for the general public. I went dolled up and solo and had a great time at both.

These shows don't generally sell out so be sure to buy your tickets at one of the 1/2 price tickets spots throughout town for a substantial discount. They sell cheap meals too, so treat yourself to dinner before or after the show all gorgeous.

A couple of years ago when I was far less confident I went to a magic drag show in Vegas. When I bought the tickets I asked if it would be OK to come dolled up. The ticket agent looked at me like I had a third eye. "This is a ***drag show***, honey, this is ***Las Vegas*** honey, you come in whatever your little heart desires."

I am with Stephanie S on this one. Vegas is a place to go where you want and enjoy everything. I did that last year over 3 days and loved every minute of it and would love to go there again. I would go to one of the traditional Vegas shows that include comics, a lot of young girls in skimpy outfits, singing and dancing. Last year we bought the cheap seats and were kindly moved forward to great seats much closer to the stage. Go and enjoy.

In Vegas you dress like you want ( as long as it's not indesent exsposure) and there are places to go for make overs.

I had seen the show with an all "male" cast... Unbelievable is the only word to describe the ladies and there costumes! I think they actually sang & danced too?? I was in total awe to notice! ;)

I went with my wife a year ago and had a good time. I didn't notice any other CD's. either they were blending in or not around where I was touristing. I did dress up one night and went to the hotel bar and a show in house with my wife. I walked alone to the MGM and played the slots a while.

Go for it!!!

Have a great time, but don't leave your common sense in your room! Remember that the whole raison d'ĂȘtre of Sin City is to separate you from your money! Some like to do it through less-than-legal means, so be aware of your surroundings, just like anywhere.

When I was in Vegas, I was amazed at how many TS's there were, especially in the restaurants. If you don't know exactly what your are looking for, it's very hard to tell the TSs from the GGs. Many of the showgirls are also T-girls. Unfortunately, I was there for work and one of the speakers, so I didn't feel comfortable going out as Debbie, but I realized real quickly that I could easily have done so under different circumstances. The great thing about Vegas is that the weather is always warm, so you can easily go out in skirt and heels any time of the day or night, and pretty much enjoy yourself. Even if you don't completely pass, as long as you're not loitering or look like you're soliciting, the clubs and casinos seem to be quite willing to serve you as a customer. The main thing is to be aware that you are expected to do some gambling. You can play the slots or play the tables, but they don't want you to just "hang out and watch". Fortunately, there are lots of "penny slots" and you can play for a long time if you only pay a few lines per pull.

While i haven't been to Vegas in a couple of years it is a great place to be yourself. Dress as you want got where you want.. but!!! don't loose your common sense in the land of neon lights.. What i mean is be aware of who is around you and what is going on, don't get neon eyes.. there are a lot of people in that area from everyewhere most are great people both locals and tourist but there is always someone around that might find your purse and easy pick pocket. As for shows if you are going to wear heels, take a cab even what appears to be a short walk will fool you it might be a half mile down the street. The big signs and big building make distance look like just a short walk. I don't know about the show downtown at the 4 queens but the one at imperal palace i saw when it was at the Rivera but i am sure it has changed some it was a great show. The IP is pretty tgirl friendly as well with the show being there they have to be.
As someone says there are a couple of places there to get makeovers as well and both girls are really good...

I've been on my own in Vegas lots of times. I have found it better to go to places like Charlies on Arville street and The Spotlight on Sahara to see a good show. At least you'll get to meet and interact with the queens. Also check out Amy at The Crossdressers Botique, just behind Tony's on Sahara. There are also some clubs on Paradise near Tropicana that are TG/CD friendly. If you want to take a walk on the wild side, go to The Las Vegas Lounge on Karen st.

I agree, Vegas is a great place to go out en femme and mix with the mainstream without anyone giving you a hard time. I've done it a couple of times now and no one cares at all. I think people (tourists) expect a little variety in Vegas! :)
