I’ve been talking and talking with my friend, Melissa Rose, about going out shopping dressed for the first time and finally the stars aligned on Friday. Put on jeans, a black cami and lacy tan top, did my makeup and headed out the door. We met and then drove together to the local mall. I was nervous but nowhere near as nervous as I thought I would be. Melissa is just one of those girls who can totally make you feel at ease! We started with lunch, strolled around a little, and then got serious. I picked up a few things but we did a ton of window shopping and talking. The worst thing that happened was an occasional glance but overall it was an extremely pleasant experience. (Well not counting a couple of blisters! Melissa is SERIOUS about shopping!) :heehee:

I used the ladies room, tried on clothes, talked to SA’s, etc. I think the thing that impressed me the most was just how normal the whole thing was. Two girls shopping, talking, and just having a very pleasant afternoon together. I can see why most GG’s love this stuff and really feel like I’ve gotten to do something fun that I’ve been missing out on. I think these trips are going to have to be a regular thing now, bounded only by not spending myself into the poorhouse!

Oh yeah, one funny thing. We stopped in Forever 21 so I could look for a belt. I’ve never been in the store before but know it well from my teenage girls. Having read many of the posts on this forum, it seems that nobody can read you like a bunch of teenage girls. Well the store was full of ‘em. We walked in, walked all over the store and you know what – nothing. I didn’t even register a glance when we were in there. Their radar must have been down or something. Melissa is as pretty and passing as her avatar indicates but me, I’m not kidding myself.

Yes it is Addicting. But as you found out for yourself, even "us" that don't pass well can have a blast out shopping with everyone else. Just act like you belong there and hold your head up, and one last thing, always smile back at another woman when eye contact is made. I think it's a secret signal that all is OK..

There is nothing like the first shopping trip. Doing it with Melissa is that much better. And being relaxed in a Forever 21, gold! Glad you enjoyed yourself.

No matter how you are dressed, if you walk with confidence you can go almost anywhere without questions.
I used to do security tests for a security company, usually dressed in slacks, polo shirt and dress shoes.
I would attempt to get past security without them stopping me, and many many times I would walk right into companies or parts of offices that were supposed to be restricted. Sometimes even waving at the security guards or talking to them as I pass by. Once the owner of the company called me into his office to discuss why their security guards seemed to be so inept, I explained to him, when someone walks in that exerts a lot of confidence in the way they look, talk and act, and the security force doesn't have that kind of confidence in themselves, it makes it easy to walk right past them.
Told that long story to basically say one thing.
Walk with confidence and most people won't see anything out of the ordinary.

Glad it went well for you, now it can become a regular thing. I go out all the time now, shopping, movies, manicures and once it a while there is a look but I just walk on and enjoy myself

I'm actually not all that surprised that you didn't register on the radar at Forever 21...Young girls in their own element having fun and shopping so they didn't feel the need to be on the look out for predatory males.....Guard down, radar off.

Thanks for the kind words all!

I really mangled my little toes in those heels so I'm hobbling around in my wingtips today. I've been saying something like "yeah, my running shoes were laced too tight" but I'd love to tell 'em the truth - "yeah, I should have stuck with flats instead of heels for the mall." :heehee:
