What do you think about? do you see it much? how is it depicted?

I know a lot of shows kind of play it as comical or as a major plot twist, but have you ever seen it given proper attention and displayed in a more fair light?

a friend of mine mentioned a anime that seriously address these topics but i forget the name. I remember a successful french model that is M2f bu I can't really think of any others right now.

As to your questions about finding "reality" being accurately presented on any topic in the "media"...Good Luck

I believe only places you can hope to find truthful accounts of anything are shows like "Frontline". What most refer to as "news media" I refer to as "info-tainment", lol

But what do I know, I am just a CD, and you know how crazy we are...:heehee:

I'm a fan of the Belgian film Ma Vie En Rose......it sums up me to a certain point, though not completely.

Shows up tons in Anime and Manga, quite often in a serious light.

I can recommend this is a cool website. Tv Tropes (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WholesomeCrossdresser) I spend so much of my time on TV Tropes browsing stuff. I knew it would come in handy one day. It shows common themes in all forms of media and this page will directly take you to a whole bunch of Movies, games, books, Tv programmes that contain Cross-dressing portrayed in a more or less positive light. It features both FtM and MtF and has a few subpages too. The Website is great if you have a particular story plot interest and want to see what movies and stuff feature it at some point.

Incidentally I know I've spent far to much time on TV tropes, as I've started to trope myself. Seeing which categories I fall under myself lol.

Hope this helps. :)

There are also pages for Transexuals (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Transsexual) and a whole bunch of subtropes for Transgender. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TransgenderTropes)

Tv tropes is very positive about it Transgenderness as a whole, but since its basically a catalogue of recurring themes due to stereotyping in some media there are a few tropes which show up a fair bit that aren't always in the nicest light so do beware.

Just last nite I watched a movie on showtime called "To Wong" . It featured Patrick Swazie and a couple others as crossdressers. Somewhat of a comedy theme but I enjoyed it. There was a good movie on hbo called "TransAmerica". It depicted the challenges of an individual being accepted.

yeah, "TransAmerica" is a fine movie, and another favorite has to be "The Crying Game". Both have realistic portrayals of girls, and what we go thru. We're getting there.

Coronation Street (long running British soap) has had a transitioned MtF character for years now - when the character first appeared on the show they did deal with the issues like bigotry, prejudice, etc. Later, issue around same sex marriage. Recently they revisited that one ( I take it the UK now allows same sex marriages?). Every once in a while they revisit issues but she is now an accepted resident on "The Street"

Both the movie & the musical have a crossdressing character named Michael. BTW its one the best musicals I've seen!

Try Better Than Chocolate and Just Like A Woman. Both are great films, and treat the subject very respectfully.

Also, not exactly trans, but definitely a great gender-bending fantasy: Zerophilia.

Most of what I've seen confuses TS with TG, mostly on the Oprah channel with Lisa Lang. While done well as a great acceptance of TS people [ mostly children] they are called TG as if there is no differance, so more half - information.

If you need a good cry, take a look at "Southern Comfort". A true story about Robert Eads, an f to m transgender in Alabama who was diagnosed with cancer. Still haven't gotten through it.

I've seen most anything out there in the last 20 years or so, and it's mixed.

First off, you must separate transgender roles from crossdressing roles.

Now, I'm not going to go over them one by one, but I would say as time is progressing, accuracy and respect is slowly improving. I would like to actually see some films with real trans girls as ordinary characters, not a sort of shock value or focus of the film, though.

The closest thing that's come to that was Candis Cayne in Dirty Sexy Money, being an actual trans girl as a trans character, but it was still shock value and over in a flash.

It would be hard to top Cillian Murphy's portrayal of a crossdresser in Breakfast on Pluto, the cast and plot are first rate and he makes a drop dead gorgeous woman

By far, my favorite movie is "Kinky Boots", it's not a comedy, based on a true story. There is one scene between the Lola and the elderly house maid, that brought tears to my eyes the first time I saw it.

I thought M2F meant a threesome…

I was watching a documentary about crossdressing in the movies the other night, and director John Landis declared that “A virile man wearing a dress ALWAYS gets a laugh!” He laughed when he said it, but I was crying, because this is how crossdressing is depicted in the movies, or on TV, with few exceptions. As such, I don’t expect any gender-bending enlightenment from the media in this country…

Anime does seriously address crossdressing, in fact that’s what drew me to it in the first place. The Japanese seem much less uptight about it, while America is too afraid to delve into issues of sexuality. Since crossdressing is invariably seen as a form of homosexual expression in this country (via ignorance), it gets the brush-off. Making the whole enterprise into a big joke is just part of the subliminal way the media defines who THEY want you to be. It’s extremely unfair, but this is what you’re up against…
