If you are up front with her, she will have the opportunity to love it, but if you hide it from her under the mistaken impression that you are protecting her, then the betrayal of trust will make it very much harder for her.

I'm with you. I am so grateful that my SO loves both Dee and my male counterpart. It took years to get here, however. Being involved for most of my life in forwarding the tolerance of diverse lifestyles, from race, gender, sexual preference and gender identity, I can offer that tolerance is the first step in gaining acceptance. I would love to be accepted by society as Dee, but we're not there yet. I'd accept tolerance at this point.
