Just like men and women, some CDers are more active than others. I try to watch my weight and keep a slim athletic figure. I do this for many reasons, one of which is to keep the figure I have so I can look good in a dress. :)
I run, ride bikes, play soccer, etc. I was just curious how many CDers out there stay active to help keep a femme shape and what activities do you do to stay in shape?

Absolutely! I attribute CDing as a main motivator to stay in decent shape.
I cycle mainly, but walk a lot.

I cycle too. Started seriously this year. Lost thirty pounds so far and feel great. Now I need a new dress!

Being a geek, I'm afraid that the most exercise I get is clicking and dragging a mouse - but I have an index-finger of steel, baby!

Ohh yeah!! I exercise daily. I have all the home gym equipment. And play ice hockey 1 to 2 times a week... At work I walk at lunch.... I have a push mower... I never use elevators... Not so much to maintain my girlish figure, though its a bonus. To maintain my health. Getting old is not something you go into out of shape! Lol.

Maybe CDing has a little to do with trying to stay in shape but I feel it is more about putting off the inevitable and feeling good about my self. Of course looking good in a dress is also a worthy goal :)

Lots of walking. I also work at a blue collar job, so my arms and upper body get a workout most nights.

I've always walked a lot. When I was still working I would intentionally park my car up a steep hill so I'd get somewhat of a workout on the way home. Now I walk a lot. When you get older the aches and pains of youth start catching up with you. A recommendation I have for your youngsters is to stay away from hard impact exercises which will cause accelerated deterioration on joints. Due low impact exercises such as walking and swimming. Since diagnosis as a diabetic controllable with exercise and diet, I've changed eating habits and walk more than usual. I've lost fourteen plus pounds.
Right now I'm posting in a Merona XL size red and white floral print which looks terrific on me now. Getting rid of the "male pregnant" look should be a goal for every woman.

I get to walk and climb alot at work, it's the nature of my job. When the kids were babies I ran and did some weights, now I have precious little time between work and the kids activities. I'm still reasonably thin so it's not too bad. I miss the rush and how fit I felt. Now I just stay away from the baddies like candy/pastries/cookies. I have them from time to time but in extreme moderation. Uh, beer is my only vice, now if I could only stop drinking the stuff. I don't want to go from a 12 to a 16!

I hit tennis balls against a backboard on my ground floor patio. I started playing tennis when I was 8 years old and played 2-3 days a week most of my life. Same with martial arts.
I suddenly quit during the period where I got divorced, lost everything, was forced to resign from my job, then filed for bankruptcy. For some reason, I lost my motivation, lol.
But I am back hitting balls off the backboard, confident that I will be back playing tennis soon. Like next month or 5 or 10 years from now...lol

Looking good as a woman is my primary motivator for working on my weight and trying to stay in shape.
Over the past few years, thanks to Weight Watchers, I've learned how to eat better. As a result, I initially lost around 45 pounds and went from a size 16/18 to a size 12 on top and a 6/8 on bottom.
Over the past couple of years I gained back a bit of that weight, but without the motivation and without working on staying on the Weight Watchers plan I'd probably be a lot bigger by now.
I also learned to exercise and most days I either do a 4.5 mile (7.2 km) walk/run or a workout at the women's exercise center that we belong to.
I really believe that if I wasn't a crossdresser I'd be a couch potato.
Hugs,
Persephone.

I live a fairly sedentary lifestyle, partially due to my work but never in my whole life ever had much of an interesting in anything physical (sports, exercise etc. always bored me to tears.) I also like big women, so it wouldn't be a factor if I decided to become more active and lose weight. I figure if people are somehow offended by my size, they can just avert their eyes and look at something else.

I have always exercised and used to stay in shape for sports. I no longer am active in sports and so my exercise motivation now is to stay in shape to look good when cross dressing! It is a great motivator in addition to health.

At my advanced age, I exercise to stay alive!! I do a lot of walking, but I do go to the YMCA almost every day. Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays I do the weight machines and the other days I ride a bike!! When my wife died 6 years ago my 2 children told me that I had to live to be 100 y/o so I could be the oldest one in the family!! I do have a way to go!!
I was a competitive distance runner for over 40 years. In the last 5 years, impact injuries have taken their toll. I can no longer run. Most days I walk between 3-4 miles and I ride my bicycle. Last Sunday, I got on one of the railtrails and rode for almost 20 miles. The only thing that was sore afterwards was my bum.
I had noticed at the beginning of the summer that I had some weight gain creep--got on the scale at 160#. Also noticed that some of my nice skirts and pants were not fitting as well as they should. I upped my walking and cycling and watched my snacking. Am now at 148#.
I believe that excercise is the key to weight control.

um - use to run but mostly hike and ride bicycle long distance, real long. Last fall I rode 1000km with full panniers. That topped about 2000 for the year. I really hate my belly fat and my S/O is forever putting carbs and dairy in front of me, then has the tenacity to laugh. A mean mean woman she is

I do 7 miles a day on my bicycle (in yoga pants, a sport bra, and women's long sleeve running top!). I get up at 4:30 am and am on the road by 5:30. When the cold weather hits, I will do 1/2 hr on the eliptical every morning. I also have a Bowflex, but I haven't used it for a while due to back problems. I have lost 50 lbs, and had to buy all new skirts!

I've run and played tennis for 30+ years. I've run over 100,000 miles, and yes, everything works. Only problem is I have to get a new odometer. Average is 60 miles/week over those years. And I still can't eat everything I want, damn that aging thing...
My curse is low body fat, veiny arms. That's why I like cool weather, they're not as apparent. But I am a size 8, something to show for all the work. I love running and tennis, they're not a chore for me.
I want to keep my girlish (at least in my mind) figure so that gives me a quandry. I'm a tall girl and I don't want to have big arms and legs so I don't exercise intentionally. I keep active and on my feet all day at work, but don't push it too far. I try to cut my food intake by portion control. I went from a high of 190 to my current 165-168 which I want to maintain. I dipped below 160 but my wife didn't like the way I looked so I deferred to her judgment.

I stay physically active for reasons outside of cd. I absolutely love tennis and running and have recently gotten into rock climbing too. It's an added benefit that it keeps me slim. Though it's a bit of a double edged blade since I can't hit the gym and bulk up a bit for when I'm not in drag.

I work a very physical job so that helps a lot. Outside of work I ride and race off road motorcycles.
Unfortunately my family genetics tend toward big people. It is a constant battle to keep the weight off.
I need to drop 10 lbs right now. Put on a skirt that was a perfect fit 6 months ago and it is tight.
Time to step back from the table and jump back on the bike.

I walk to work, three miles there and back. An average day will give me between 5 and 8 miles. I also walk alot besides when I go to work too. Some days I can get up to 14 miles. And considering I live in a 1-square mile town, that's impressive!

Blimey! When you said active you really meant active eh? I was expecting to read more "I go to the gym as much as I can." I applaud everyone's dedication to being fit and healthy.
Say I don't suppose you fitness buffs would be able to point me in the direction for some nice thigh exercises? Preferably ones I could do in the warmth of my own home? I mean I walk back and forth to work but I need something else to shift the fat from my thighs. I'm afraid that I can't cycle, but I'm open to other options. Not anything to the same extent as rock climbing and things a long that route, I doubt I'd cope particularly well.

Road cyclist (Specialized Roubaix Pro) and very slow runner... 5-6 times a week. Been known to ride 192 miles in a weekend several times to benefit Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Not being able to exercise for any length of time has the same effect as not being able to dress at least once a week. Hmmm....I just realized that.

I used to donate to a gym but between work and family, I didn't want to spend my limited free time in a gym. I do play hockey, volleyball and golf a couple times a week. I have dropped about 10 pounds to between 160-165 in the last year just by eating less so that has helped my enjoyment of my sports as well as my CDing. I can't say that the motivation for losing weight is to look better in a skirt but that sure is a welcome bonus. I could lose a few more pounds just by giving up my daily soft drink but my male side could use the extra pounds and I'm not sure I want to give up my coke.

A twice weekly long cycle ride and a Sunday afternoon walk with my wife. In between that I am building walls, laying floors (mixing mortar and concrete by hand), tiling roofs and looking after the furit trees in our garden. But I also have to eat three good meals everyday, so that I do not lose too much weight. I struggle to keep my weight above 10 stone (140lbs) at the lower end of the correct BMI for my height.

Likewise, I am able to maintain my 165 lbs...BUT I have to walk regularly at a good pace, 60-90 mins daily to do so.....thinking of getting into biking again too as a change of pace.
Until about 4 months ago I have done absolutely NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't get me wrong..........this was premeditated strategy, since I am a transsexual after starting my low calorie diet and jumping on hormones, all I could do is DO NOTHING to allow body to return to its default state and diminish decades of muscle mass and fat deposit buildup. Mind you I was a 220+- lbs body builder, not exactly a feminine criteria.
After 2 years of such diet and 9 months of hormones, I have achieved 164 lbs and was ready to get active!
Night club proved to be the source of phenomenal exercise, shaking your tush is not only cardio but an excellent way to strengthen lower and butt muscles.
Last night I was kneeling down in my GAP jeans fetching sheets from beneath the bed when my 17 year old son walked in and I heard; "NICE BUTT" ;)
I confronted him to ask weather such comment was just for fun or was it an actual complement, we are sooooo tight I can ask such things :), he replied" Yours is totally woman's butt, for real, but what I would do is still to get to exercise those muscles, it could then be phenomenal"
Well, needless to say, he made my night, and today i have done an hour of buttocks, I can't sit, walk or stand without pain.........................:mooning:

It's very interesting to read all of these exercise routines! I work out at a gym twice a week. My motivations are, in no particular order, 1. to stay at the low end of my BMI score, 2. to get as close as possible to an hourglass androgynous figure, 3. to be strong, 4. to stay in good cardiovascular shape, 5. to get an endorphin high from "the pump," 6. to keep my body fat percent as low as possible
Almost all my workout is done either on cable pulley machines, or pin selector weight machines. Free weights are probably better, but I try to rest only 60 seconds between sets, and putting weights on an off bars wastes too much time. Anyway, I do 2-3-4 sets of 25 reps with lower abs leg lifts on a dip bar, upper abs crunches on a machine, hip abductors, hip adductors, glutes extensions, leg presses on a sled, quads leg extensions, leg curls, toe/calf raises, back extensions, cable lats pulldowns, cable rows, pec deck flies, chest presses, machine pulldowns, shoulder presses, machine rows, triceps extensions, arm curls, and follow everything up with half an hour on a seated exercycle. I do my body weight of 150 on the pec deck, chest press and lats machines, am currently doing 500 on the leg press sled, and 200 on the hip abductor/adductor machines. Everything else varies between 50-100 pounds. Total amount lifted is usually around 100,000 pounds, and I'm usually in-and-out of the gym in about two hours +/-.
(Climbing up to pulpit) It's a fallacy to think that heavy weights make big muscles. Using heavy weights makes a person stronger, doing lots of reps and sets enhances definition (cuts). Eating more food calories than you burn causes big muscles if the excess food is protein. Extremely defined arms and legs may or may not be attractive as the eye of the beholder sees them, but if you count calories that is what you'll wind up with, not bulging Arnold Schwarzenegger type muscles. Obviously bone structure and heredity have a lot to do with it, too, and obviously a person who is trying to lose weight will have different needs. However I can say that using my routine I've lost 17 pounds in eight months after overindulging at Thanksgiving,Christmas and New Year's. At 5-11/6-0 tall, I weighed 155 before T-giving in 2010, and had ballooned up to 165 by Feb 1st. Using my routine I now weigh 148 and am lifting heavier weights than I did a year ago. My waist is down to 29, which lets me wear most size 8's and mediums. Sorry to preachify, but imo the most important exercise is still the pushaway at the dinner table, even if you burn 5000 calorie a day lifting, jogging, biking, you'll still get fat if you eat 5500 calories a day. It's inevitable.

I have been exercising since I was a young child. Much older now but I continue for my health and not for a girlish figure. Use to run but arthritis in my toes has nixed that now I cycle 4 times a week, lift weights 3 times a week, martial arts 4 times a week, in winter I downhill ski, in summer I volunteer in the Grand Canyon hiking the trails trying to keep the hikers safe. I feel exercise becomes more important as I get older and so I don't plan on stopping any time soon.

I exercise primarily for health reasons. Hour+ 5-6 times a week on a treadmill. Also better diet, low in fats, especially trans fats(total artificial), and saturated fats. No french fries, few hamburgers, lots of salads and fish. I have become a connoisseur of the best salads in town. My favorite is a sweet and sour chicken salad made with field green, charbroiled chicken, cucumber, papayas & pineapples, tossed with a light red wine vinaigrette.

I have always enjoyed being fit. I run average between 35 and 50 miles a week running, but I never really did it because of my dress size. I do it because I enjoy it and as I get older I also do it because of the healt benefits that come with a good exercise routine. Still fitting in size 6 jeans is a great side benefit though.

Oh Yes.
I have lost about 30 pounds and have a girl goal weight, which I am approaching.
I took my time lost the weight by eliminating junk foods, sugar and flour.
I eat lots of fruit and eat salads daily, only do one cooked meal a day, drink allot of filtered water too. Feels great, I have been at this for several years now. I want to lose a bit more, really helps me feel like a lady.
I do yoga and walk all over too.
Saw some organic cotton camis and panties and yoga pants that I am saving for.....

I road bikes as a kid, cycled for a year or 2 in my 20's and then became a cyclist in my early 50's about 10 years ago. The shirt I'm wearing in my avatar is a casual shirt, but rest assured that I do have the riding kit. Major Campagnolo fans here and my bike has a full Campagnolo drive train.
Anyway, I started cycling again due to rising cholesterol. Nothing really drastic, but it just kept creeping up a point or 2 every time it was checked. My doctor offered medications, but I decided to try exercise and supplements. I also included a lot of supplements that were anti-inflammatory and had anti-oxidants since I have had arthritis since childhood. It worked and so far there has been no need for any medication. However, my wife had a serious cycling accident about 3 years ago. She spent 6 1/2 months in the hospital with a spinal cord injury. Unfortunately, work and helping her as needed have cut into my riding time. But, over the last 6 or 7 months I have been riding more. I try to ride to work once or twice a week and a ride on the weekends. When I was riding a lot more, 50-55 miles was a good workout. Right now I'm in the 25-30 mile range, but I think I'm pointed in the right direction.
I have not targeted weight loss specifically in the time that I've been riding. But the inactivity of the last few years have allowed my weight to slowly increase. This has been noticeable recently when I bought a few skorts. It may be time to incorporate weight loss into the strategy!!

I been packing on a view pounds lately and my only worry is i am not looking very good in a dress. Told my wife that i want to watch what i eat and try to lose a few pounds.
I try to watch what I eat, to make sure I'm getting the 8000 calories a day I need to keep active. I work a very physical job. Then I spend my free time cutting and splitting firewood to give way to those in need. I am built like a lumber jack. I would have to slow down to even attempt getting a girlish figure. Also I have my fathers gut, and broad shoulders. That will never change.

I try to walk a couple of miles each day. Joined a weight loss group in January lost nearly 40 lbs so far only another 30 or so to go. Although the dressing was a part of the reason, to look better in a dress, like someone else here the biggest reason was to stay healthy as I'm getting older. No longer a kid you know.

I'm very physically active - workout at the local YMCA 4x a week with hr of weight lifting (for toning only as a girl shouldn't get too big) and 45 -1 hr of cardio on the treadmill or elyptical machine. I'd say I'm currently at 6-7% body fat (rough guessitmate but I can see my abs if that's any indicator) and very proud of it, but it takes a lot of work to maintain that and will power (in terms of eating healthy). But I feel so much more sexy for it :battingeyelashes:
But before I fully embraced my womanhood, my weightlifting was for pure muscle mass and power - so I've always been a bit of a gym junkie and also did a lot of sports (i.e. football, boxing, martial arts, etc). So no matter what I think I will always stay fit as its a big part of my life and always will be.

I try to maintain my current weight as much as possible. As I like to be able to fit into my current fem clothes and not have to get a new wardrobe. I do a lot of stretching and yoga in the morning. However, that has been curtailed currently as my belly button piercing is healing and I try not to aggravate as much. And whenever the weather gets warmer I do bike and play golf a lot, mainly walking and carrying my bag when I play. In addition at work whenever I use the restroom I always walk up and down the stairs at least 5 times a day. I never take the elevator if stairs are available. I also park far away at malls so I have to walk to the stores. These are little things I do to maintain my weight when I can't play golf. Also I weigh myself almost every week.

I guess I've always been lucky my smaller frame kept me slimmer than most males, there was a time when I blew up to almost 200 lbs,I'm only 5'-7" in stocking feet.Back to the subject,I do the old fashioned sit-ups for the mid section alot of strecthing to stay nimble and isometrics with lower resistance to keep toned not bulk up.My only problem is when I dropped the excess weight I now have "extra" skin that has to be removed, a plus is that I now have "moobs an "A" cup.And lets not forget diet very low fat i.e. chicken skins, fast food any thing that tastes good.Plenty of water and fresh fruit.Don't starve but cut back on portion size slowly at first but it gets easier.Size 12 with a 32waist.Wish I had just a little bit more hips.Darn these shoulders.

I don't consider myself active, but others do. I surf on the average of 3 times a week (there are periods up to 3 weeks long when therre is no surf). Don't take elevators, park at the rear of parking lots, etc.

I wouldn't call it 'keeping a feminine figure', as I've never had one. I'm not very physically active, but I do stretching exercises to 'keep loose'; and have a rowing machine for a bit of aerobic work. But the knees went south long ago, so my old pastimes of basketball, raquetball and tennis are unfortunately a distant memory. Occasionally, I will indulge a friend's kids by showing them what 'that old man' can do with a basketball (I still shoot baskets, and can hit pretty well from the arc, not to mention a mean hook shot that I've developed over 40 years). Kids mistake basketball knowledge and a few tricks for actual speed, they haven't learned to 'read' someone's next move yet at that age. But I pay for that in pain the next day, so that's pretty rare. But now that you've mentioned it, it's still about 40 degrees out, so I think I'll go out and shoot a few before dinner, and reminisce about when I thought I'd someday play for the Knicks.

I'd love to be a lot slimmer than my size 20 (UK). It's not that I'm not active, I do cycle and walk quite a bit but perhaps not enough. Perhaps I should be more strict on portion control :-(

I thought I'd "weigh in" here about the weight issues. I just started more fully dressing now that I have the house to myself and don't have to sneak around too much. At 5'9" I realize I am overweight at 245 pounds! (Yes, too much junk food, not enough salads and exercise). I think my target weigh is 180 pounds, but I'm SO much more interested in looking good in a little black dress that some number on scale. I would also like to be able to put my knees together effortlessly while sitting-its just much more feminine, dontcha think? I have a lot of work to do, but if the reward is a size or two..or 4 smaller then so be it.

I exercise intensely several times a week. I suppose I've become somewhat obsessive about it. Having said that, it does keep me quite svelte and feeling good aside from the periodic stiff and soreness. :) Diet is also very important too

Healthy eating, exercise, good sleep and personal health & hygiene are the most important things in life regardless of gender issues. I do aerobics, eat right and take advantage of 'coolsculpting', a new non-invasive non-traumatic medically supervised technique that can be used to sculpt a femminine form w/o the use of hormone therapy & its complicated side-effects. Checkout pinkmethod.com if intrested girls. Mmmuah... :battingeyelashes:

I find I am most physically active when I am most at peace with the woman inside me. I eat right to keep her body efficient, I exercise more and even feel the sweat on my body quite differently than if I weren't working out.
Seriously, and this is scary, the only time I get into good shape is when I am motivated for Meghan to thrive. I am starting that period of my life right now. Swimming, weights and maybe aerobics. That is when I am truly happy.

I have to meet physical standards for my job. So, yeah, I exercise. I do mostly strength training because I HATE cardio, but I do run occasionally because that's part of our assessment.
The only problem is that when I do exercise, my weight migrates from my gut to my chest and shoulders. So, yeah, I work out to keep my figure too, it's just that I'm built like a NFL lineman. I'm 6'4 and weigh 300ish lbs, which is great for my job, but keeps me from most likely ever trying to dress in public...
Priorities, priorities...

I treadmill around 30-33 minutes each day at around 4 mph -- a "brisk walk" pace by military standards. This totals around 14-15 miles a week.
Someone mentioned earlier that they "walk" about 30 miles a week in 4 hours. That, at 7.5 mph, is a running pace.

I figureskate 3 to four times a week for 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours each time. I'm 62, 5' 8" and weigh 158 lbs. Most of my weight was going to my stomach
area but since restarting skating the last 2 years after a 35 year lapse, the belly bulge has gone. My legs have firmed and built up but they don't look
muscular, its just given them a nicer look and skating has given me a nicer looking "booty" to boot. After telling my Physician I was skating he said "I'll see
you in the orthopedic ward".

Believe it or not I had to quit hard core exercising 2 years ago because of a medical condition. I've got an operation coming real soon and hopefully put it behind me and get right back at it.
I hope to be back in the boxing ring in a few months. Just got to find a way to keep the face pretty. lol

My interest in cross dressing has definitely helped me be more health conscious, but for me it's more about eating healthier, I've just never been able to get into exercise. I think that's partly because I'm lucky and have never had to think about it, I'm 6'2" and never been over 170lb, which is pretty thin. I've been eating healthier the last several months (most of the time), and I try to only drink water (unless I'm drinking alcohol), and I've lost more than 10 pounds.
I need to put more effort into exercise, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

I run 3-4 times a week (roughly 1h each time), and I maintain a 1/2h core session and 1h yoga session each week.
I love it it makes you feel great and look great.
I eat well too, plenty of fruit and veg (good for the skin).
I try to stay clear of sugars and alcohol (week days only lol).

I run 10km (6 miles) twice a week and hit the weights room twice a week.
Absolutely! I attribute CDing as a main motivator to stay in decent shape.
Sedona sums up my feelings perfectly.

I do century bicycle rides, mountain biking, and paddle a kayak. I use an exercise bike to make it through the colder months. My weight is usually around 135 but even at this weight I still have to work to keep the old stomach from expanding. Hugs Riki

In college I was a lot more active than I am now, and unfortunately it shows. I used to bike 20-30 miles/day and I weighed about 180 (5'9") but I was still a little pudgy. But life changes and I don't have the time to exercise like I did then. I've porked out by nearly 70lbs and it all resides on my gut. Blech! I was back down to 200 for a while, but then I went through a depression and now I'm at 250 again.
So I need to get active again, and cut ye olde calories down to about 1500/day. I'm thankful for my male metabolism that I know I can lose weight quickly when I put my mind to it.
